[00:00:00]This is a ship lift, which is capable to lift a 15,000 ton ship. Instead of waiting 3 to 4 hours in a traditional lock, ships ride into a giant water-filled basin, and the whole thing is raised or lowered 113 m in just 40 minutes.

[00:00:14]Here's the genius part. The basin holding the ship is perfectly counterbalanced by 156 massive counterweights. When the basin docks at the top, the gates open, and the ship just sails away like nothing happened.
