Mobile mother calls for change after latest apartment complex shooting - NBC 15Added:
A car struck by bullets and two people injured. The latest in what residents describe as ongoing violence in their community. Neighbors say this isn't an isolated event.
>> I've been staying here for about two, almost three years, and I'm not surprised to hear the shooting at all.
Um A couple of months ago, I had a cops on my ring camera looking for shells. It's I'm just not surprised at all. Like my babies, I rather let them play outside unless I'm sitting outside with them because it happens so often. You guys may have heard of it when the 5-year-old got it. That happened over here, too.
Now, families who once saw this as a safe place to live say they're rethinking everything, especially parents raising young children. Because my babies, they like to play outside, and I thought moving over here it was going to be a safe environment, but it's like soon as I moved over here that I started hearing worse and worse and worse, and it's not getting any better.
Mhm. So, I just hate that. She says part of the frustration is what she calls a lack of consistent security. While she's seen patrols increase after incidents, she says it doesn't last.
>> I wish management would do something about it. At one point in time, we had security sitting out here, but they'll do it for a little bit after something, and then they it it'll just stop. And then next thing you know, something else happened again. So, I feel like if they had somebody over here regularly like they're supposed to, it probably won't be as bad as bad as it is, and it'll probably slow it down.
But, I wish it will, but knowing the summertime coming around, it's definitely going to get worse.
Kids out of school.
I just know it's definitely going to get worse. And the violence keeps coming back. With summer approaching and kids out of school soon, she worries things could escalate even more. They're five, and they're going to kindergarten next year, and they're supposed to go to Forest Hill right down the street, but I'm like I don't even trust it. I'm I'm really in the process of probably moving across the bay and Spanish Ford.
>> Now, she's weighing a difficult decision, whether staying here is worth the risk to her children.
>> I don't think that I feel I feel like any parent would want that. Absolutely.
>> So. Yeah. I definitely don't want to keep putting my babies in harm's way.
