In basketball transition offense, teams can outsmart defensive schemes by reading and reacting to defensive positioning rather than forcing plays; this involves identifying favorable matchups, using screens to create defensive rotations, and attacking the weak side when defenders overcommit, as demonstrated by the New York Knicks' ability to generate wide-open scoring opportunities against the Cleveland Cavaliers through disciplined execution of read-and-react principles.

The New York Knicks Are OUTSMARTING The Cavaliers...Added:
New York Knicks are actually just outsmarting this double big lineup here by the Cleveland Cavaliers. And you're going to see it on this play specifically where OG and Obi gets a wideopen three. Now, how does this happen? And what is the scheme? Well, take a look. As Josh Hart's coming over, he knows he's got Jared Allen who's in this like drop zone coverage. They're not really guarding the three-point line of Josh Hart. So, as we get this thing over to Cat and we go around him as if we're setting up the DHO, you notice how Jared Allen drops underneath. And now we're gonna go over and screen James Harden. Now for OG, we know that he's not gonna Jared Allen's not going to step up and switch, which means all we're going to do is read and react off of what James Harden is doing. So, for example, if James Harden goes underneath this screen, we don't even really want to use it. We kind of just want to sit right here and shoot the ball. If he chases you around, you want to curl it into a twoman game and create an opportunity for Josh Hart, right? But since he goes underneath, we stop on a dime and get a wide open three. It's easy as that.
We're going to break down a ton of film.
Hit the like button, subscribe, big shout to prize picks, and let's go a play like this in transition where we're getting up. We're finding the matchup that we like, which right here is OG versus Jared Allen. Obviously, we got the speed to drive by him, but more importantly, you get a bunch of guys out of position defensively. So, look at James Harden. He's guarding Mikuel Bridges. But as Muel Bridges gets to that strong side dunker spot where it's just sitting right here, we are going to drive to the inside, get James Harden to overcommit to us. And as he does that, nobody's on that strong side and boom, wide open, easy layup, just outsmarting the poor Cavs. And once again in transition, same thing. We get a match up we like here with Jaylen Brunson on Dean Wade. We're going to act like we're going to set the screed because all series we've been doing what? We've been really trying to pinpoint and target James Harden defensively, right? So, as we act like we're setting that screen, you see James Harden plant that foot into the ground and we're just going to roll right to the basket getting behind this defense and we actually have a trailing Cary Towns here um getting up in transition. So, we're going to swing it there to have an easier point of attack to get the ball to Muel Bridges, which they do. And once again, he gets a wideopen layup. Again, easy, easy for Muel Bridges. Funny is the Cavs try to do that same exact play in a way where you see Dean Wade setting the screen.
He's going to leak to the basket, get that 2v1 here up top. And as we leak, look, you got triangle of defenders and Towns OG and Mikuel Bridges reading the basketball. And look, as Donovan Mitchell tries to no look this thing over to the inside, Towns reads it perfectly, gets his hand on the ball, and once again creates an opportunity.
and they're just not hustling as much as they need to be. And look at that pass.
Muel Bridges gets another wideopen layup. That's what three layups in a row he was able to get in transition. And what a pass by OG. Look at this one. Six seconds left on the shot or the game clock for the third quarter. And essentially, we're out in transition.
Take a look at this. Brunson's bringing up staying calm, right? Not rushing into things. He's not trying to chuck up a halfcourt three, but instead drives all the way into the lane knowing that their big man is a step ahead of Mitchell Robinson trying to get to that strongside dunker spot. So all we do again 2.3 on the shot clock. Never panic whatsoever. Throw the lob up there and Mitchell Robinson is able to get a go with.3 left on the clock. I mean that is incredible timing and once again their ability in transition.
I felt bad for Cleveland all game.
Here's another one. Again, we're going to act. Not even act. We're going to set the screen here for Miles McBride to come off this thing and attack the paint. But after that screen, we're going to leak out here to the three-point line. We're hoping that Donov Mitchell follows and fights off the screen. And you can already tell that Jared Allen is playing a very soft coverage to stop the drive to the basket early. But what that initially does is it creates separation for Josh Hart to get a wideopen opportunity at a pullup three. And that's what he does. Pulls up. Nothing but confidence. Game what?
Three or no, game two, he was really efficient. Made a lot of shots. And that was a big one. Now they're up by 12 with 10 and a half to go in the fourth.

And then obviously the offseason as well. We got you guys covered. Lastly, hype the video if you guys can. Helps out so much. And with that being said, let's dive back into some more. But right here, you're going to see them get the ball over to Jared Allen. Allen's gonna pull uh pull up a little floater.
No good. And immediately, right, we see Dean Wade's on on the or Sam Mero is on the ground, right? And they've got four guys down low. This is a nightmare.
Nightmare if your first guy back is on the ground. So Josh R gets it, looks, and boom, Muel Bridges is absolutely gone. Wide open down the floor. Look at this hustle.
Bingo roll. Easy money. Before we get any further, big shot of prize picks.
easiest app to use. All you got to do is pick more or less on some of your favorite players like Webby, SGA, De Fox, doesn't matter. Rebounds, points, assists. Now, today we are putting in a little bit of an entry with AJ Mitchell more than 19.5.
I think he has been like their second leading scoreer throughout the playoffs thus far. I expect him to have a big game in San Antonio and hopefully keep this game close, but you never know with the Spurs. You got Deion Fox coming back hopefully. Uh you got more than 24 and a half Pra. I think he's going to come back and just dominate. And then you got WBY who obviously is the main factor of this team. He gets a lot of rebounds.
He's going to score the ball a lot.
Nobody can really stop him. They're putting Alex Crusoe on him which is a mismatch heightwise. 42 P. I like it.
Let me know in the comments down below what you're doing. Use the link in the description. Get $50 instantly once you play $5. And with that being said, let's keep going. Look at the ball movement here. We're going to start by setting up this DHO double drag DHO. So, what does that mean? We're going to set a screen here off ball for Jaylen Brunson to get to the ball. We're going to then screen hand the ball off as he comes down.
We're just creating rotation from this defense. Okay. All we're doing is creating rotation from this defense. So, boom. Double screen. You get a switch.
Jaylen Brunson on Jared Allen, which is absolute panic mode. This is something you never want to see if you're a Cavs fan. And as that happens, you start to see weak side rotation from Max Struce.
Why? Well, because Jaylen Brunson would drive right by and get an easy left-handed layup while using that right arm to kind of keep and maintain leverage on Jared Allen, right? So, it would be an easy layup. So, as Strus rotates over to eliminate that drive, we then have a wideopen corner three. Now, it's a little bit late, but Muel Bridges does cut to the basket. Probably should have done it a hair earlier to make sure Sam was biting down. But we do kick this out to Landry Shamut in the corner and Sham's able to quick trigger a three wide open anyway at the buzzer of the shot clock and another big time bucket.
And I feel like this was the one that really just demoralized the the Cavaliers because they're down by 11 and they do ultimately get a stop here on the Knicks. But look at this, right?
Nobody. I mean, it's Carl Dy Towns with four Cavaliers sitting in the paint.
They're not able to get the rebound.
Josh Hart immediately swings the Shamut who gets a wideopen three, no close out.
And it felt like at that point the Cavaliers chances in this series dwindle down to maybe 5%. Maybe 0%. I might be done again, knock on wood. But ultimately, hit the like button, subscribe, join the family, turn on post notifications if you want more of these updates. Going to be more throughout the rest of the season. And um yeah, I'll see you guys in part two of the next one.
