[00:00:02]The way they speak as if the world should obey. Plato wrote The Republic after everything broke. He wrote it following the Peloponnesian War, when militaristic Sparta defeated democratic Athens. It seemed to Plato that Athens was drinking its own Kool-Aid. He made a claim that most people avoid, that there are two layers to everything, what exists and what should exist. Most people stop here. They retreat into the ideal. It is cleaner there, safer, untouched by consequence. Plato called them forms, perfect versions untouched by the world. And that is the problem, because when you mistake [music] the ideal for reality, you begin demanding the impossible, utopianism, and reality resists violently. There is another path. Few take it. To take what should exist and reconcile it with what does.
