Hillary Clinton says Biden made 'terrible mistake' running for reelection

[00:00:00]A few weeks ago, the Democratic National Committee released an autopsy report on the 2024 election.

[00:00:08]It satisfied nobody.

[00:00:11]Not one person did it satisfy, except for maybe the Bidens, because it didn't mention Joe Biden's decision to run.

[00:00:21]When you look back on this episode, and it's obviously we're not we don't have the distance of historians, but some time has elapsed.

[00:00:29]How do you analyze it? I know you you you had a long political alliance together, complicated relationship, and so on and so forth, but when you look back on his decision to run, did he make a terrible mistake?

[00:00:42]>> He made a terrible mistake. He made a terrible mistake for himself, his legacy, and for the country.

[00:00:48]Um, he had said that he would not run again.

[00:00:51]And, you know, counterfactual narratives are always a bit tricky, but I believe if he had kept to that plan and said in say the late summer of '23 that he wasn't going to run, that he was going to pass, you know, the torch to the next generation, we would have had a real contest.

[00:01:15]And very sadly, I believe whoever emerged from that contest, whether it was the vice president or a governor or a senator or anybody else, would have beaten Donald Trump.

[00:01:27]So, I think it was a terrible miscalculation uh, on the part uh, of President Biden.

[00:01:36]But, once he didn't move, uh, and and did not, you know, admit that uh, he had said he was going to step aside and then decided not to, and held on for as long as he did, we were in a terrible dilemma.

[00:01:55]>> Why was it so difficult to speak about this?

[00:01:58]>> I think there were a lot of conversations going on behind the scenes. I certainly am, you know, aware of that, participated in a number of them.

[00:02:08]But there was there was no way to convince him by going public.

[00:02:16]And eventually what convinced him was, you know, polling, polling information.
