IMU IS A DEMON!! | One Piece Chapter 1181Added:
Emu's nemesis attack reminded me of Mihawk. I know you see it, too. And there's no way after seeing that it didn't at least come to your mind. We've seen Mihawk use the exact same attack on Luffy at Marine Fort. The connection to Nurona for Mihawk is not new at all, though. So, this isn't at all surprising, and it adds some interesting pieces of evidence. Let's start with the name Dracul. derives from Dracula, meaning son of the dragon. You know, dragons, celestial dragons, the imagery, the religious undertones. And in this chapter, we see the lines blurred between God and the devil, which Mihawk has always kind of sat between. His disposition, demeanor, even the way he speaks. I don't hunt rabbits with a cannon. God Valley had a rabbit hunting competition, which could point to Mihawk's descent or separation from that lineage. Choosing not to kill rabbits like his family, taking another route on his lonesome. You know, he likes being alone. Also, Zora's mention of Mihawk being less human than S Hawk, who was a seraphim. And this possible lore deepens his connection to Shanks, so I'm all on board. And of course, with a Shanks mention, it makes me think of Loki's performance versus emu, because now, man, I have some questions. Short answer, Loki was incredible. Long answer, well, Loki has an uncanny ability to counter. He's always looking for an opening to follow up. He's the character you can't turn your back on. You don't let up on. He don't give any speeches because he's going to take advantage of the opening. Overwhelming strength, surprisingly very nimble for his size, but his best attribute is clearly how tanky he is. My goodness, he took so much punishment and kept showing up as a fighter and as a man. Loki speaks through his actions in battle and feels very akin to Luffy. I legitimately think there's no one that can battle against the likes of Loki and not respect him.
Even Emu had to smile by the end because he was so relentless, but also Emu was tweaking a little bit. Keep in mind as well, Loki is still injured from the onslaught of Shamrock and Gunkko. Yet, he's holding his own against the pinnacle of the world, who we can't forget is seemingly hurt as well. So, again, back to Shanks. How did he do it?
Did he actually do it? Do we just have to give Shanks his credit for being overwhelming himself? It's not like he doesn't have wildly impressive feats of his own. Uh, but either way, Loki then gets impaled by Nemesis, and I thought it was over. Him falling to the ground while Emu breaks down what strength is and the means to get it. And Loki then in real time is denouncing everything Emu is saying through his actions. When envy drives them, they'll achieve power.
Loki's a lot of things, but Envious has never been one of them. He's looked in the face of all that's good and bad and still forged his own path. Loki is fighting through all these attacks and showing that there is another way to achieve strength. The dialogue around Harold, it seals a dichotomy. Emu blames Harold for his inconvenience and makes it all about himself. Loki, the selfish ancient giant, doesn't make it about himself. Loki doesn't even say that he's hurt, that he doesn't have his dad anymore, that the country and everything it went through with Harold's death, doesn't bring up any of that. Loki states that his dad died way too soon, and he did not live a full life as giants typically do. They lived to 300.
He died at 144. Essentially, he's saying the tragedy is his dad not living his life, not that he wasn't there for him.
He never made it about himself. This is the same Loki upon our introduction to Elbath. everything wrong when Elbath was laid at his feet. He was the reason for everything going wrong. He was chained up for years, taking the blame from everybody for everything going wrong.
Yet, he holds no ill will against his country or his dad. He literally when Emu pulled up said, "I am Elbath. It's me." This 180 on the perception of the character is moving. He is literally morphing into an unforgettable character in front of our eyes. I mean, it's clear. Emu, on the other hand, is no slouch in that department either as a combatant or as a character, but he's efficient and a talker, too. The seamless transition between all his weapons tells us, I think, that he's clearly very efficient with them. But Omen especially got way more interesting this chapter through the use of gigantification. The visual themes were running rampant. Oda having Emu use Omen, then inflating his arm before gigantifying like Luffy would. That is not a coincidence. This is intentional.
Otis trying to connect us to something we've seen before with Luffy using his arm blowing up to become large. Its power dwells in all things. It says a lot to me. Of course, at first I can't help but think about the voice of all things where you can tap into a frequency that only a few can reach. But for all intents and purposes, it is a superpower. What about physically being able to do the same thing, but it's manufactured? Hear me out. Omen and how emu uses it and how he talks about it.
It feels very important to the opposition and then a blessing to emu from all those who have sworn filalty to him. Now emu speaks of dominion submitting your will, achieving power, forming a trinity. Omen is emu's military might. So what about this? What if the trinity is a vault? Emu and the individual. The subordinate whose sworn field gets access to emu's strength, uh resources, immortality. You get benefits from this. It's a nice benefits package.
But emu also gets access to all the things you possess. your qualities, your power, a possible devil fruit, even your weapons, the Yodu lookalike that he manufactured. Not saying Mihawk is connected to him, but I mean it does look kind of crazy seeing that. And even gigantification, what is that about? The covenant is not only to make Emu's subordinate stronger, right? It also benefits Emu by building his vault. Any ability stored there, he can access. Granted, I've just watched a few episodes of the Fate series, so shout out to Gilgamesh, but you you understand what I'm saying. Through these covenants, the envy of the individuals leads to power and the control of all of it leads to dominion by emu. So, it's a give and take relationship, but more so take by emu, but it's not like you're not without benefits. And that's what emu is trying to communicate in this chapter. But when you break it down, cuz a lot's being said, what is emu actually saying? The dialogue was, I think, very important. I think it was profound. I think it was very telling. Let's break it down, though. His general view on strength isn't necessarily wrong in a vacuum.
People do crave strength and it can corrupt them, right? Some of it does feel like projection though, like emu had to make a choice and his envy led to corruption, more power, and now emu saying, "Well, that's the way the strength because he's at the top. He's at the pinnacle. He's like, this is the only way to do it based on the decisions he made back then." Typical projection.
Emu speaks about the covenant like it's a blessing to the ones who accept it.
The trade-off is more than worth it.
Obviously, a contract with God, right?
The bestowment of blessings to achieve great things. And I think this is where Emu's entire framework gets exposed.
Luffy and Loki are two characters, right, who actively refuse to be acknowledged as heroes. They turn down positions, barely acknowledged titles.
They are beings who exist on a plane of following their own code. And as more time passes, it makes more sense why Loki was immediately acknowledged by Luffy. They're pure in a unique way, and they feel brutally honest to a fault.
corrupting these two based on their qualities outside of all the other stuff. Their qualities I think would be damn near impossible. Though it could also be due to their awakened mythical zoans, you know, possibly. So, we can't absolutely rule that out. But emu's diet tribe, it makes you think. Envy and the want for power could be what gives doi its power. It's feeding off the true nature of humans and other species alike. Emu did use Harold's nature against him. The man just wanted to protect his people and have a bright future for his country. and emu manipulated him which led to him getting killed. Now Loki's question, it led to an interesting answer that made me think, what is the difference between a god and a devil? A very interesting question. It could be a divisive question based on what you believe in.
But let's just talk about it. There have been real life conversations about the same exact argument. Free will, the existence of evil as a prerequisite for choice. This duality exists on a plane kind of beyond coincidence. It's all about picking a side. The name Lucifer, it means lightbearer of God, which is typically Lucifer is typically another name for the devil. But to me, here's where the distinction lies, right? Let's use this scenario of emu and Luffy. One represents love, light, and hope. The other represents deceit, destruction, and devastation. Now, hope can be made to look however you'd want depending on where a person comes from, right? Emu can provide hope for somebody that's dying or somebody that needs saving.
They need strength badly. And that's the hope that he's providing. But if you have to pay a price and sell your soul for hope, is it truly that? And I think Emu's disguise and the manipulation, I think that's part of a larger theme of how emu goes about things, right? It is deceit, the empty throne, even him trying to control Harold to control Elbath. That's his nature. Deception, manipulation, and his powers. I think it represents the same thing. The fact that his weapon can shapeshift, the fact that he can take over other people's bodies, it is just intertwined into the fiber of his being and how he operates. And he sees it as being God. But not only God, he's also the devil. And he embraces that. Even his entire design, it has features and attributes of a god and a devil. And he wants to exist on this plane. But here's the issue. I think this could lead and clearly to some inconsistencies in both personality and actions. We saw it when he started tweaking. I did not know Emu's mouth could open that wide. And he was just thinking about something Jor stated and he confirmed that a relationship is there, right? The layers of Emu's past, it's slowly being revealed, which is an indication, I think, of something larger. History, man, being written by the winners has led to more losing than expected. That saying and that code that most characters and fans of the story, we kind of abide by has been regurgitated again and again. Whoever wins decides justice. I think the frailty of good and bad is trampled based on when you hear the story and who you hear it from. For Emu, right, it seems that even though his victory decided justice and he rewrote history or wrote history, the scars are still very fresh on his heart and his soul.
Corruption, covenant, power, wealth, fame, power. You know, these exist on the same plane, I think, but are approached from completely different angles. The writing is on the wall.
Spoiler alert, this story, this whole conflict is about freedom versus control. It's an ideology and decision emu seems to be living with and trying to cope with today. I won, so obviously it was the correct decision. I'm here and you're not, Joy Boy. So, I'm correct. How about that? Isn't that right, Joy Boy? To me, it seems like he's still trying to prove himself to a man long dead and gone whose spirit and message are still living strong. Emu's declaration about dominion more than likely clashes with Joy Boys. And stating this brought him back to a time with an old friend. That's what it looks like. probably at one point he believed in that ideology via the silhouette it seems like they were friendly at least cordial right that might be Lily in the background is this romance dawn right I'm not sure but at the very least the crux of this entire saga is personal very personal and is still causing massive ripple effects today has a lot of past trauma we remember how he reacted when Rox hinted at Davey being the king spazzed out I think the warped look on the screen is intentional it's meant to display how much impact right this situation has had on him. We had a character in One Piece, right, whose entire facial structure changed due to anger. We can't rule that out. Again, the visual the visual symbolism in this chapter running rampant. And because of that, it made me revisit the mural again, right? As I do every 2 hours on the left side, right, we automatically assume there's a Lunarian fighting against Emu alongside Jory Boy and Nithog, right? But what if the flying entity is Emu? Right? The people killed the sun and became gods. This was how Emu, Davey, Nidhog, and Joy Boy rose to prominence, right? I'm telling you guys a story based on this chapter because my my interpretation of this mural is going to change every time and it's really exciting, right? Emu then makes the choice in the garden to devour the fruit, right? Does that story sound familiar? Something he shouldn't eat, something restricted. And he does that to gain the power and knowledge that ultimately corrupted him and it made him into what he is now. Maybe he was envious of George Boy back then, but now he became the devil that they once stood against. And this was all because of power. He then asked Lily to join him.
And Lily stood against him with Joy Boy.
And that's led to this massive conflict that we're going through right now. And again, this is the head cannon at least after this chapter. But the warping of Emu's mind is starting to feel really weird, man. Emu sees Nidhog at the end of the chapter and he smiles at his return. Everybody's like, "Oh my god, that's great." I'm like, "Emu, you already saw Nidhog, but you're in Gunkko's body." Well, I think there's a real separation between Emu and Mo possibly. And the trauma could have caused this. The severe shock from the betrayal of Emu's comrades back then that could have led to the split personalities being created to withstand it. I mean, even the wings of Gunkko are completely different than Emu's. It is odd. But I I'll be honest, guys. The culmination of this arc feels like the dissection of Emu and the void century with the ultimate climax being Luffy meeting with Emu, Joy Boy, and Narona.
Once again, this will be impactful. It will be powerful and it may change the One Piece story as we know it going forward. I expect another very important chapter. I'm talking about momentous mural level chapter before the end of Albabath. Just as soon as Luff is done with his meal though because you have Jimbe protecting Nami, Bonnie's getting Sanji out of the way. The stage is literally being cleared like for these deities to meet again. I mean, I just hope we're ready for it. Ultimately, fantastic chapter. I know this chapter was just straight hands throughout, but Oda did such an amazing job of symbolism, of lore, of hints, of just so much for us to kind of discern who Emu could have possibly been, and for us to just go revisit some parts of the One Piece story. And this what this is what makes, I think, not only One Piece great, but Oda fantastic. So guys, give me your thoughts. How do you feel about it? Let me know.
