Spade masterfully demonstrates that true engineering excellence lies in the humility to outgrow one's initial ideas through iterative testing. It’s a sharp reminder that the best designs are not planned into existence, but are discovered through the friction of trial and error.

Building Past My First "Good Ideas"Added:
While this go around working on the Banshee, the car wasn't just asking for progress. It started asking me for better decisions early in the build. Like a car only [music] asks you for enthusiasm and and ideas, but at some point [music] it start asking you to show it how it's going to work in the an actual world like how it's going to drive and how it's going to be. That's when the work gets more serious.
Earlier on, I had left the rear compartment, the covers for the differential and the fuel cell at a certain state because I knew I had to come back to it once I decided on what fuel cap I was going to go with. It's so funny that a little fuel cap will dictate all the metal fabrication that you need to do underneath, but that's just the case.
So, I left those [music] panels unfinished, not fully covering the fuel lines going to the motor, nor provision to run the filler line from the cap into the tank. Because sometimes just taking a stab in the dark and finishing too early, it creates way more problems down in [music] the build.
Hey, hey, hey.
Hey, hey, hey.
Hey, hey, hey.
That's I'm a >> [music] >> Choosing the Le Man style fuel cap finally gave me an idea of where it was going to be positioned. This fuel cap is huge. And so the slopes and the angles and the curves of the car doesn't give you many places. And until I had it physically in my hands, there was no way I was going to be able to tell where this thing should be or how I should build the rest of the trunk and the close out.
That one simple decision gave me direction. Now I can build all of the things that's been swirling around in my mind for [music] months now of how I wanted to finish this trunk out.
[music] That's the thing about building a car.
You have to leave enough room and [music] space to loop back. Especially if your build takes a long time. [music] If you have a build that takes two years, the first piece of fabrication that you place on the car will probably look antiquated by the time [music] you get to month 24 and you've learned more things and done more fabrication and made more things for the car itself.
The flow may feel off. You have to leave room for that.
I'm Ah, hey.
After working through the trunk area, jumping in the alpha and [music] driving to Sears Point to go to the vintage races reminded me of why I do all of this work anyway. [music] I literally breathe this stuff. I love it. I love the old cars. I love the camaraderie. [music] I love the feel of being at the track just as much as I love the feel of being on a old B-roll, that back road [music] lane cutting thing. I love the sound. I love the feel. And I love jumping in the alpha [music] and having to take it through the Napa Valley wine country seriously in order to get to the track to then see vintage racing. It's like the epitome of a perfect [music] day.
completely reminds you of the why you do all of this stuff.
The Banshee has actually changed purpose in this in this build series since I've been putting it on YouTube. When I first started building the Banshee, it was just my everyday car. I was building the car that I wanted to drive when I got out on the road. But since then, the Banshee is being aimed at the target Florio. I want to build this car and take it to the target Florio and drive it on the back roads of Sicily, which is no easy task. It's canyon roads, cliffside roads, oceanside, small towns, smooth ground, cobblestone. Everything is thrown into the mix when you talk about taking this thing to the target.
Hey, [music] [music] hey, hey.
>> [music] >> Well, now this is a touchy subject. Uh the ITBs the ITBs had to come off of the [music] car because of durability reasons. Even in setting up the ITBs, all the pieces, parts, [music] rods, I had to fiddle with them in such a way. Go back in and scotchbrite parts. So the butterflies open and [music] close correctly. You want to make sure that nothing is caught inside of the mechanism. Everything is clear of the mechanism. And if anything breaks on [music] those ITBs, I absolutely have zero support.
Now, even with all that being said, [music] the aftermarket throttle body that I bought still wasn't right right out of the box.
The Next redo and the next revisit was the hanging pedal assembly.
The hanging pedal assembly [music] required a real funky line setup in the engine compartment in order for it to reach [music] the brake fluid reservoir.
I didn't really like how that setup worked.
>> [music] >> Heat. Heat. N.
Heat. Heat.
now for the real test. What does this thing sound like?
So, at the end of the day, all of your decisions may not be final, but they're all still part of the journey. And while you're on that journey, remember that the perfect road is the one that you're already on.
