This video demonstrates a late 1970s Chrysler Airtemp room air conditioner (7,700 BTU) featuring a Fedders Rotorex compressor, highlighting key components including the evaporator coil, condenser, thermostat with constant run option, and the distinctive four diffuser vents; the unit operates on 120V with three fan speeds on cold and two on high, and requires regular maintenance such as filter cleaning and condenser coil cleaning to maintain efficient operation.

Airtemp Chrysler Room Air Conditioner 7,700 BTU Late 1970’s w/ Fedders Rotorex Compressor. Running!
Added:All right. What we have here is an old Chrysler air temp. I think this is actually technically this one's a Feder's air temp. I think it's 7,000 BTUs. I forget. Take a look. Oh yeah.
Looks like somebody actually made an attempt to clean the filter somewhat recently. Amazing. Usually I have to come in here. This is in one of the offices in my workplace.
Usually I'm the one has to come in here once a year or so and uh pay to put you down for a second.
There you go. Need a cold hand to get that offer plate on it.
It's a whole whole evaporator always called data.
There it is. There's 77 12 volts. Not too power.
That's me saying if it's in June so two years ago.
Still works perfectly just like brand new.
It definitely needs a uh cleaning one of these days. I have to take the brush to it.
They're probably cleaning motor while I'm here, but I have some other stuff going on right now, so I got to make it quick.
Throw down.
Man, that thing's cold.
And we will take a look at the back side of it quick just because may as well.
Original uh thermostat. This one does feature constant run.
Oh, you don't really need constant run right now. It's about 85 and like a,000% humidity out there right now. But this thing has a river of condensate pouring out of it. And I'll show that too. Let's put the grill back on.
There you go.
Feels good right now.
Tell you what, those solid baffles really do a lot for noise cancellation.
These are very quiet machines.
Like I said, there's a building that I get from Brian Mullins. I get a few of these every year as they get pulled out.
So, I take them and rehome as many as possible.
So, I'll pause you, take a look at the uh back side. Plugs in up there. 110 volt machine, obviously. Looks like somebody tried to cover it up with pigment over the winter. That's funny.
So, yeah, it's a three Yeah, three fan speed on cold, two fan speed on high. is your energy saver switch.
So the compressor, the fan will shut up with the compressor. It's your most important feature, the vent. And it does work. Let's see.
I don't know how effective it is, but you can hear it too.
I notice the vent switch is a little bit simpler than its Chrysler counterparts, but this was about the point in time where Feder started cheapening out. And this unit does utilize a Rotox compressor, which I know some of the guys go crazy over for whatever reason, but hey, I I'm not no one to judge.
Yeah, I remember that being broken. I don't know if somebody broke that or if that was that was like that or what, but up, down, left, and right. One up, down, two left and right. So, gives you a decent amount of configuration settings.
Go.
Not going to lie, this thing does look pretty awesome.
Like I said, pretty quiet, too.
7,000 B2. 7700 BTU. So, just a hair under 8,000. And I think these came up into 12. I never se I don't think I've ever seen them bigger than 12 before.
That's But that doesn't mean that they don't exist. Like I said, these were right at the end when uh Feders acquired Chrysler or Feders acquired Ant. I'm sorry. and acquired Chrysler. Chrysler had nothing to do with this unit, I guess, tell you other than it's Chrysler's design. So, Federers took over the uh Chrysler line for a couple years, late '7s and I think maybe even the early 80s, they were still making these, but uh yeah, pretty cool.
It's a shame they stopped making them completely because that rear vent configuration is badass. It's probably the part that most people instantly recognize when they see a Chrysler air conditioner is those four diffuser vents. Now, back the old old Imperials, they uh had just wire mesh screen like chicken wire back and four slider controls, which I really prefer the inside of the old ones, but I like the outside of the later ones better.
So, um yeah, what we're going to do is we're going to pause and uh we'll take a look at the uh back side. So, let me pause you and we'll be right back.
All right.
Take a walk up to the back side of it quick.
There we go.
Your uh it's getting some pretty decent amount of crap clogged in the condenser. Might be time to clean that up. There's your Chrysler badge.
As you can see, it has a U river of condensate pouring out of it. It does utilize the Feder Rotox compressor.
Like I said, I did do a drain hole mod on it. As you can see underneath, very effective.
Like I said, it pours out like a [ __ ] There's your rotor X all the way in the back.
So yeah, it sucks in the sucks in the condenser and blows out the sides.
That's a Chrysler design, too. So, yep, that's it for that one, guys. I will catch you on the next one. Thank you for your time and hope you enjoyed the video.
