In the NHL trade market, teams often seek to acquire young, talented players who may be undervalued due to poor team situations or coaching conflicts, as demonstrated by potential trades for Mason McTavish, Shane Wright, and Brad Lambert, where player development and team stability are key factors in determining player value and potential for success.

EVERYTHING Is About To Change... | Daily Utah Mammoth News & RumorsAdded:
Tusks up, Utah Mammoth fans. Welcome in to another Utah Mammoth Daily. Thank you for 500 subscribers, by the way.
Cool. Thank you. Um when I started this with fan arts, I didn't think we would ever reach that number. I was I was going to be happy with, you know, 50 of you guys listening to me just kind of chat about the Mammoth.
Thank you all for being here. It's great. So, you know, tusks up. I mean, Mammoth nation showing up and showing out for a fan run channel.
Awesome. I mean, already beyond anything I thought was possible. So, thank you all for being here. Now that the mushy stuff is out of the way, there's some new names available, reportedly, for trade this off-season since, you know, free agency is going to be like three names. And none of those names are really going to fit into the Utah Mammoth plans. So, I did do that video of what unrestricted free agents might be available for Utah to go and get. They're not really upgrades uh over what Utah could just, you know, resign. So, this These new names that have come up recently really piqued my interest for different reasons for all three guys. Uh so, I mean, first up and chief among them here is going to be Mason McTavish. I mean, Mason McTavish, you know, a top four pick. Anaheim was considered to be the future of the franchise. And then this past off-season happened.
And it was a a terribly rocky negotiation for him to stay around. Uh the Utah Mammoth were watching the situation closely and ready to spring if a an agreement couldn't come to come to pass for the two teams or for the for the team and the player. And so, when you look at it, Utah could be interested again. I mean, Mason McTavish is still a talented player. It just seems like a grass is greener situation where the talent's there, it's just he doesn't you know, obviously he doesn't really see eye to eye with the coaching staff on how he should be played, which could be an attitude problem.
But I feel like if a trade were to happen and it's a guy who just signed a $7 million average annual value contract, that's going to be a guy who wants to prove the doubters and the haters wrong.
And when he gets to the new market, wherever that market's going to be, he's going to play with his hair on fire a little bit. So, Utah was interested this past off season, was watching the situation closely. And now that he's back up again, if Utah can't land and these these names I'm bringing up today are if Utah can't land the big fish of Auston Matthews or Robert Thomas, that's these are the pivot points that I don't think would be too bad as consolation prizes.
So, looking at the McTavish situation is very interesting because he he was scratched a lot during the regular season. And when I say a lot, it wasn't like a a Brandon Tanev surprising amount of scratches. It's a lot for a guy who was paid $7 million.
And then he was even scratched in the Stanley Cup playoffs.
So, why are you paying that guy $7 million to have him sit?
That's a really weird way to keep that talent away from other teams. So, that's that's why I think Mason McTavish could be a very solid add to this group because the locker room seems to be very insulated and very for each other. They say it's a family, it's a brotherhood.
And you don't really get that in a lot of locker rooms. So, if you add in a Mason McTavish, can the locker room absorb that? I think Utah's can. The leadership group is really solid. Everybody knows who the leaders are. And then there's even leaders within position groups and lines. So, I think if even if the price it the price would be pretty low for all of these guys, too, because they are being shopped, which is surprising to me for all three guys, really.
I don't think you give up on Mason McTavish. I I don't think you do, but, you know, a team like Utah would be like, "Yes, please."
Here's a couple of uh you know, here's like a couple of second round picks and and and uh a depth uh not even a depth but like a a farm center that you can have. And yeah, let's do this. So, Mason McTavish was the first name that I saw on the on these lists online and I was just like, "Whoa, really?
McTavish? You guys just went to the playoffs, why ruin what you have?"
But, I mean, if he's not fitting, he's not fitting in, right? And then with the Seattle Kraken, obviously documented this season just how the wheels fell apart towards the end.
And, you know, the front office is going to be a wholly new front office Ron Francis having moved on.
And new coaching staff is going to be brought in. Do you just blow it up?
I mean, the Pacific was wide open this year, like wide open.
And Seattle almost moved into that spot where the Kings were.
So, are they close or was it just kind of an illusion, a mirage because of how wide open the Pacific was?
And will the Pacific be as bad this coming season as it was this year?
I know the Central division, like the bottom of it is only going to be coming up. So, does that mean the Pacific starts to go back down?
Who knows? But with with Shane Wright, that's another interesting one, another top four pick who throughout this season at least and last season, too, a lot of the blame was laid at his feet when it shouldn't have been.
He could he have played better? Sure.
Could he have been more aggressive around the net to pick up loose pucks? I guess. But, when you have all of that stuff flying around you and it just feels like there's nothing really supporting you because your linemates are constantly changing, almost kind of like J.J.
Peturka this past year for the Mammoth, is kind of what happened to Shane Wright in Seattle.
Another grass is greener uh candidate, you know what I mean? So, Utah, uh, these guys each one fits the timeline with with, uh, Bill Armstrong and and the age group and the core that's moving together.
So, again, the price wouldn't be terribly high to to pry Shane Wright from Seattle because these guys are all being shopped. So, when you look at somebody like a Shane Wright, there is still a lot of talent there. Just hasn't been tapped into. And if there's stability around any one of these three guys, then they're going to flourish. I I fully believe that. It's just with Mason McTavish, I mean, it was when the Ducks were super bad and then they got really good this season and some people are saying they got really good because of Mason McTavish being scratched. I don't know if that's the case.
But with Shane Wright, uh, it's just a unfortunate situation happening in Seattle. And maybe if he can move on to a different team, whether it's the Mammoth or not, I think if he gets stability around him on his line, I think he'll flourish as well. So, that's what I see there. And then one that I don't think is real because he's so young and he hasn't really played that much in the NHL, like Brad Lambert for the Jets. He played 25 games this season, three games last and one in his rookie season. So, or his draft season, I guess you could say.
The Jets haven't really seen everything that this guy can do yet. And so, I think the reason why he is being floated as a possible trade candidate is so that they can upgrade their roster.
Maybe on a for a team that is is starting to tear it down, right? And they want to start rebuilding because Brad Lambert's only 20 what? 22, 23 years old when next season starts. Not even when next season starts, he's only going to be 22. So, uh, I mean, this kid can play. He was a first round pick of the Jets, you know, number 30 in 2022.
I think if they do trade him, it would kind of be a mistake because you're just kind of selling the farm to try to re- gain something that you lost this past season when it's a lot like the Maple Leafs with what happened with Winnipeg is the talent drain happened because you can't afford to keep everybody and then the people you banked on to replace that production didn't produce or were injured or whatever the case may be.
And so when I saw Brad Lambert's name on there I went, "Mhm, I do not think so."
So this is the one that it's only he's only going to be available for an upgrade and for Utah, I don't think it's one that would be very feasible to go and get just because Utah already has those guys in the building if we're talking about Brad Lambert, you know. Cole Bardreau, Caleb Desnoyers you those guys are here. They they don't need to add a third one, but it was just a name I wanted to bring up because I saw that on the list and with all three of these guys, really?
The available? But here we are. So I mean May 18th, these names seem to be available in the trade market.
Obviously, I think a lot of the dominoes are going to start falling once there's clarification on the situations in Edmonton and Toronto.
Once there's clarity there, everything else will start to happen. So I think that the trade market is going to go crazy once Edmonton makes their head coaching higher and if Connor McDavid is happy or not with it and then Auston Matthews once he same thing I go who the head coach is going to be and if he's going to just say I'm over it I want to move on.
That's really where the off-season's going to hinge on. But let me know your guys' thoughts in the comments section below. Like the video, um subscribe to the channel.
