Low pressure brings cool, cloudy, windy, and rainy conditions on Wednesday

[00:00:00]safe on those [music] roadways. Now, starting off with what we're seeing out there right now, it is windy, it is wavy, and there is rain here on the Central Coast. Plus, cooler conditions are still very securely in place. So, starting off with why all of this is happening, it's all this low-pressure system. Now, that actually made its way from the north all the way off across our coast and up down towards the southeast of us. Now, it's starting to rotate back through the Central Coast, and that second pass as it makes through the region on tomorrow's evening hours is actually where the heaviest rainfall is expected. So, we've got more of the system still to come, but it's actually been a couple days that we've been dealing with this. So, plenty of sunshine as we headed through Memorial Day. Yesterday, lots of cloud cover for the Central Coast continuing to see lots of areas of that light drizzle during the daytime hours as well. Not really accumulating too much at all, but still something you likely noticed yesterday.

[00:00:52]This morning, more of the same. More scattered showers sitting just off our shores, making their way through portions of the region. Areas including Santa Maria, Vandenberg, across the Harris Grade, and through Lompoc this morning have already seen some rain.

[00:01:05]And this will become much more widespread through the afternoon hours.

[00:01:08]I'll get to that in just a moment, but starting off with what we're seeing right now, it's windy out there, especially along our South Coast. 26 mph right now with those wind gusts in the Las Cruces area towards the Gaviota coastline, even gustier than that, upwards of 35 mph near Alisal and near Mariposa Reina as well. So, just be cautious on those roadways, especially on 101 this morning along our South Coast in any high-profile vehicles. We also have some significant waves. Where there's wind, there's typically waves, and that's the case for today. 8 to 9 ft across those western beaches for this morning, getting much more intense later on today as the bulk of the swell actually makes its way here by the midday hours. Likely seeing some local heights sets up to 12 ft, plus dangerous rip current risk is expected. That's why we've got a high surf advisory for all of our western beaches in place all the way through 11:00 p.m. tonight. So, we're keeping an eye on those winds and those waves plus the rain. So, let's time that out now. Scattered showers still staying off our shores, but they will make their way across many of our communities later on today. I'm speeding through them because they're not going to be particularly substantial. The bulk of this rain actually falling tomorrow morning when that core low pressure system will make its way into the region bringing us some slightly heavier bands of rain early tomorrow morning lasting into the afternoon hours with more of those scattered showers all the way into Thursday evening when it'll finally clear out. We'll see high pressure over the weekend, much warmer conditions for next week. In terms of accumulations, not a whole lot going on. Just trace amounts for most of our communities.

[00:02:33]Highest totals in our northwestern communities, San Luis Obispo near a quarter inch, half an inch of rain possible at those highest peaks and along our north coast. So, not a ton of rain, but still something you may notice. Temps staying very much on the colder side. 63 in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo 62 in Santa Maria and Lompoc 68° today. In Paso Robles, almost 25° below normal for this time of the year.

[00:02:56]Rain today and tomorrow then clearing out on Friday. We'll be back in the upper 80s on Sunday in Paso Robles, mid-70s in San Luis Obispo, still 90s possible next week in the interior valley communities. Comfortable for this weekend and it's next week for Santa Maria and Santa Barbara as well with lots of sunshine.
