Yousef Kunyaka was born in Bogaloosa, Louisiana. He became a major poet and professor known for work shaped by African-American identity, jazz, memory, and the Vietnam War. And he won the Pulitzer Prize for poetry. Positive black history includes language that sings, questions, and stays with the reader long after the page is turned.
