Socotra Island, located in the Indian Ocean near Yemen and Somalia, has been isolated for millions of years, making it a living laboratory of evolution where approximately one-third of plant life exists nowhere else on Earth, including the iconic Dragon Blood Tree; however, this unique ecosystem faces threats from climate change, storms, grazing animals, and modern human pressure.

Socotra: Earth’s Alien Island 🌍 | The Most Mysterious Island on EarthAdded:
There is a place on Earth that does not feel like Earth. A forgotten island in the Indian Ocean where nature looks as if it came from another planet. One of the most mysterious and alien-looking islands in the world.
Separated from the rest of Earth for millions of years, it became a living laboratory of evolution. Here, trees bleed red. Mountains rise from ancient stone.
White sand dunes crash into turquoise seas, and strange plants grow in shapes found nowhere else on the planet. The dragon blood tree [music] stands like a flying saucer frozen in time. Its red resin was once treasured like medicine, dye, and myth.
But this tree is more than a symbol.
It is a survivor of an ancient world.
On Socotra, almost 1/3 [music] of plant life exists nowhere else on Earth.
Rare reptiles, mysterious caves, forgotten trade routes, and ancient human stories all meet on this island.
But this paradise is fragile.
Climate change, powerful storms, grazing animals, and modern pressure are threatening one of the rarest ecosystems on the planet. If Socotra changes, something unique may disappear forever.
In my upcoming documentary, we will explore the history, science, mystery, wildlife, landscapes, and people of Socotra.
The island where Earth becomes alien.
