[00:00:00]Hi everybody, in this video we're looking at how many ways elevator data can turn out. Imagine you're tracking which floors people visit in a building.

[00:00:08]From the lobby, there are six floors and you record the choices of 10 people.

[00:00:12]Each person has six choices and all the choices are independent. But, instead of listing out every possibility, we're just going to multiply six to the 10th power. That represents the six choices for each of the 10 people. This number comes out to be 60,466,176.

[00:00:32]What we used in this example is the fundamental counting principle, which says you multiply the number of choices for each step to get your total.

[00:00:41]This shows us that small decisions can lead to huge numbers.
