This film review demonstrates that effective action films must balance entertainment value with narrative coherence, where strong action choreography and pacing can compensate for plot holes and logical inconsistencies, but films that escalate from family-centric stories to melodramatic arcs without organic development may undermine their core message.

Blast Film Review | Arjun Sarja, Preity Mukundhan, Abhirami | Ravi Basrur | AGS EntertainmentAdded:
Hello and welcome to India today. I am Sanjay Ponapa and today I just completed watching the Tamil film blast. So this film stars Arjun Sarja in the lead.
There's Priti Mukundan Abrami playing prominent roles in the film and as we usually do before getting into the deeper review what is my experience of watching the film in one or two lines.
I'll put it like this. This film is fun, action-packed and absolutely love the action. If you guys have been watching our reviews enough, you'll know that I'm a big action buff. And just like me, for anybody else who is an action buff, this film is going to be a really good fun watch in Abandon. But does this not have any problems? Is it an absolute perfect action entertainer? No. It comes with its own set of flaws. Now, let's get deeper into the review. Uh what what is the story of Blast? To put it simply, the story of Blast is about a family.
Arjun Sarja plays a karate master, Abhiri is his wife and Pri Mukundan is his daughter. Uh the film starts off with a younger version which establishes one the martial arts background of the family which establishes the moral values that Arjun Sarja instills into his daughter and also establishes how Abirami always tries to keep her daughter out of trouble. A key value to take away from this particular scene is how Arjun Sarja teaches his daughter that no matter what, no matter who it is, even though it is somebody who we don't know personally, you should always stand up for the right thing. You should always stand up against injustice and help somebody who is in need. I think this little line is the most important part of the film as this particular moral is on which the whole film and its story stands on. 15 years later, Arjun Sarja is still the karate master. His daughter played by Priti Mukundan is now all grown up working for an IT company and Abi Rami is a tailor at home looking after the family to this score. Now add a bunch of generic villains. One one actually exciting villain but others were mostly generic. Uh add a police investigation to the loop and a huge corporate scam at hand and there you go.
You have a blast at the theaters. To put it in absolute simple words, in my opinion, the way this film is going to be perceived is going to be two ways. One, for somebody who is an absolute buff for action, who's who who just wants to enjoy action set pieces back to back with a good enough story that strings it all together, who wants to watch it all in abandon, who doesn't really deeper into the logics of cinema in the film, the plot holes, loopholes, or how exaggerated things get in the film. If you're just there to, you know, get entertained in abandoned, I feel like this film is going to be a good watch for somebody like that. At the same time, for anybody who's looking for depth in character, more reasons, motives for action, where it goes to, and then some logic as well. Anybody who's looking for all of these things will kind of walk out disappointed or probably underwhelmed thinking that this is just an average film. And both of these kinds of people are right at their place. Why? Let's talk about the demerits first. It has a lot of logical loopholes. The first thing to start off is is how the younger Nila is already uh this is probably a martial arts buffer me who's just noticing all these things but is already wearing a dantri black belt. Was she already so accomplished at the age of seven or eight or something like that is something that is a question in my head.
I mean that cannot be true. So there itself there is one plot hole but on a more gapping level the film moves from levels to levels. The first half is very convincing is hard-hitting and is compact. Small minor loopholes but that is digestible. But as we get into the second half the one one biggest thing that came into my my notice is that the director Subash Kajj has just exploited the law of coincidences in cinema. It's it's it's as if anything any place he gets stuck a coincidence is added just to stitch two scenes together. This coincidence after a point started getting a little too much. It felt like I said earlier a little too exploitative of that tool. Another big problem I had especially with the second half is about how the story moves from something happening around this family and the little steps they are taking towards standing up for the right thing. It moves from that towards becoming almost a messiah story. It it's about standing for the people and then a farmer's angle comes in all of these things to try and make it a little more melodramatic.
Probably it was an element added to kind of cater to a target audience but organically it didn't sit right with the film and the way the story was going.
Had it been a little more you know family ccentric itself and not moved towards such a bigger scale it would have been a more convincing story.
Similarly in all to in order to carry out this messiah arc the martial artists in the story kind of suddenly become something else than they are. It usually starts off as a mode of defense either self-defense or defending somebody else but then it moves towards becoming something larger than it was supposed to be. uh if I tell what it is it would become a spoiler so I will refrain myself but that move did not serve the story well. The music in the film was all over the place. Ravi Basur the music composer the background music in the first half was mostly good whenever he was using a normal EDM in the background it it was good but then an extra element being added some the English rap that everybody is talking about right now it it was not digestible for anybody I guess because it kind of distracts until then I I was wondering why is everybody talking about the music so much what is wrong with it sounds good right and then the English rap starts and then you're like uh Ah, that's the problem. So, what are the best parts about this film? Now, let me channel my inner action lover because honestly speaking, I walked out after this film really happy. I was satisfied with whatever was served. All these problems that I listed out were something that I was kind of noting down, but it wasn't really bothering me.
Why? Because the action in the film was so good. The pacing also was just as good. a couple of instances here and there. For example, in the second half again where there is an action sequence going on and between that the film kind of segus towards a montage sequence which is absolutely irrelevant to the story that was proceeding. It has some value to the overall story but the placing was absolutely irrelevant not necessary at all. So there were distractions like that in between but apart from that the action and the pacing was really good. The action choreography particularly for Prii Mukundan was brilliant. If you think Priti Mukundan's action performance in Kapa is good. You should watch blast and see her just you know blast on screen because it was absolutely amazing to look at her doing all the floor moments.
The choreography was absolutely beautiful. You know, it's it's like she has a small frame, right? And it it would be tough for anybody who's just watching cinema to, you know, kind of digest that she is beating down all these big buff goons. But, you know, the choreography is such and also the technical departments, the camera work particularly is so good that it is convincing whenever the punch is moving from her, the camera also moves and you can you kind of feel the force of her punch as well. So all of those things technically the choreography team along with the cinematography does a really good job especially with Priti Mukund's choreography in the film. Not just that Arjun Sarja adds a lot of value as a martial artist himself whose follow followed that way of life throughout is kind of perfect for the role he was casted for. His action sequences also seem really good on camera and of course it's Arjun Sarja. He's a big action star right from the olden days. I feel like the newer generation kind of do not realize what sort of aura he had back in the olden days and blast is one of those films which should potentially bring all of that aura back to the man. Abrami also does a good job with her role. She has the presence, she had the moves as well. So her performance in the film is not bad. But also at some point of time I did think that okay with Priti Mukundan suiting so well as a karate martial artist and Arjun Sarja being a martial artist. I think somebody who could do the moves a lot more convincingly than Abi Rami would have been better because there were places where it felt a lot was choreographed and it was not you know the character and the skill she has. Also a little flaw in a lot of places punches were being shot like this. This is not the right way to punch. Uh the thumb might get fractured. So which is why it's it's supposed to be here. But that's a little thing. Well, I've listed the merits and demerits of the film and I've also suggested to whom this film might cater to and to whom this film might not cater to. So with all of that in mind, it is up to you to whether go and watch the film in theaters or not. With that I am Sanjay Ponapa and you are watching India today.
