This video explores Santa Marta, Colombia, where Simón Bolívar's remains were initially buried for 12 years before being moved to Caracas. The narrator reflects on how Bolívar's grand vision for Gran Colombia (which included Ecuador, Colombia, Panama, Venezuela, and parts of Peru) ultimately failed, and questions what Bolívar and other Latin American independence leaders would think of the region's current reality of poverty and dependence on foreign powers. The video also observes that while historic city centers are well-maintained for tourism, surrounding areas show significant degradation, symbolizing the gap between historical ideals and contemporary reality.

And they rested here for 12 years.
Until finally they were taken away to Caracas.
wonder what he would think now seeing the future of Gran Colombia.
Simon Bolivar, Ecuador, Colombia, Panama, Venezuela.
A part of northern Peru included. What would he think?
Because it seems to me that the plans didn't work out.
The things didn't turn out the way he wanted.
The way he expected.
A constant in Colombian cities is that the historic centers or the city centers are well maintained in general, more or less. If they are historic, they are better maintained.
But as soon as you leave the historic centers, it starts to degrade.
The architecture and the well-being of the people is noticeable in the in the appearance of the people, in the appearance of the houses.
The landscape is becoming impoverished.
Um I would like to tell you that it's only Santa Marta, but it's a constant throughout Colombia.
The centers maintained for tourism, for a certain type of business, and a few blocks further it starts uh to show poverty.
What would the liberator think about that?
What would San Martin think? What would Rosas think? What would Belgrano think? What would the others leaders of the of freedom and of the independence in Latin America think? It seems to me that things didn't work out uh the way they wanted, given this ominous reality of poverty and dependence on foreign powers that Latin America is in up to this day.
Latin America.
Santa Marta, a very beautiful historic part.
Very beautiful beaches, very beautiful very su línea del litoral.
