Travis Meyer's Thursday Evening Forecast | May 7, 2026Added:
from the Bob Mills weather center, the Oklahoma weather expert, Travis Meyer.
>> All right, one more look from Osage Sky News 6 as we're looking right around the areas of I44. We did have some traffic slowdowns we talked about because a lot of people are like looking at that and kind of like what is going on? But that fire now seemingly a lot more under control. Dustin Stone is right there uh keeping an eye on it. You see the smoke still coming out, more of a white smoke they mentioned a little bit ago. So that means that they're a little bit more under control. there's no longer flames showing up. And so that's the situation there. And if you saw the smoke, I want to show you this. This is a little time lapse that we have of the smoke. It was visible across much of the city. And uh that was just a black smoke for a while there while it was burning at a pretty high intensity. And so that gave off that smoke plume. And you can see what was going on there. So if you saw it from a distance, that is what we were looking at. The smoke has since pretty much calmed down. This is live shot right now. So you hardly see any smoke associated with that other than what we saw with Dustin and Oage Sky News 6 just a minute ago. So there's a little bit there but that's about it. Now going over to something a little bit more fun than fires uh banana ball and that's going on tonight. Uh and if you look a lot of nights we don't see tons and tons of people but we see tons and tons of people out there right now. And this is a it's kind of pre-starting is the official game supposedly is at 7:00 but the pregame is at 6:30. So, there's folks that are still coming in. You see in the lower left, right over here, and then also back on the main entrance over here in the lower right. Uh, it's going to be a fun night out there. The weather is just so awesome. 73 degrees right now. Light southwest wind at 8 miles per hour. And for the next couple of nights, we have banana ball going on.
Temperatures 70s on Friday. Now, the only problem tomorrow is there's showers and a few thunderstorms that unfortunately are going to be timed out sometime right around about this time.
And so that'd be right when the ball games would be getting started.
Hopefully it'd be over with by the time we'd, you know, they might have a little rain delay. That's about the only negative. Otherwise, we should be good on Saturday. There could be some storms coming in chasing us off off the field probably by 9 or 10 if the game isn't over with this weekend. So many things going on Friday into Saturday. Still well. Strawberry Festival. It's going to be a great day. There is a chance of some thunderstorms late Saturday night, but that should be mainly after the rodeo is over with. Don't forget the parade is at 10:00 in the morning. You got to have your Italian food. And uh we're talking about being down in Macallister for Friday and Saturday.
It's the Italian festival going on. So there's so many fun things for this weekend. I hope you have a chance to go out and enjoy that. Oh yeah, kind of something real important. Last but not least, probably the most important, Mother's Day. Uh we do have a chance of rain showers and a few thunderstorms.
It'll be cooler. Most of the rain will be in the morning and uh thunder and then it'll just go down later. So, we do have quite a bit of time uh or for the next 14 days where we do have some heavier rain and thunderstorm chances.
That's rain. We just ended up uh in the last two weeks just not a ton of rain and we could do for some rain. Western Oklahoma needs rain badly, but uh some areas from Tulsa southwest haven't really seen anything for a couple of weeks now. So, it's like, hey, maybe we can snag some rain because the drought is still not good. Once you get west to Tulsa, it's bad. So, we still are hoping and praying for something good happening as far as some rain. Further north and east you go, it is a little bit better.
And then you could take that all into western Oklahoma. That's not good. And what's weird, just want to point out real quickly, southeast Oklahoma has is pretty dry. Things are quiet right now.
We're in the 70s, low 80s out to the west. And through tomorrow morning, it's quiet. We're in the 50s. And then tomorrow afternoon, we're okay. We're in the 80s. Good day. But you just see this boundary and you see this little blue.
What is that? Well, that's that cold front coming through. And here come those thunderstorms. And as they develop and move through around 6 to 7 o'clock, a few of those could be severe with hail and wind. And then by the time we get to about 10, they should die down and then be out of the picture. So if things work as planned, should turn out to be really, really good. Temperatures are expected to be generally very mild, but we do have that chance of storms again for Saturday night into Sunday morning.
And that could mess with our Mother's Day a little bit there. We'll be seeing much improved weather as we work our way into next week with a chance of a few showers and storms. But overall, that's more of a real May forecast. That's the way that looks.
