This video explores Cooperative Bank House in Nairobi, Kenya, showcasing how proper engineering and architectural design enables buildings to withstand catastrophic events. The building, completed in 1981, survived the devastating 1998 terrorist attack that targeted nearby structures with approximately one ton of explosives. Despite severe damage to its glass facade, the building's structural integrity remained intact, demonstrating the importance of solid construction practices. The video also highlights the significance of regular maintenance and restoration efforts in preserving architectural heritage, as the building has been restored to its original elegant appearance with glass running from top to bottom, allowing natural light into the offices.

Exploring Nairobi CBD π°πͺ | City Vibes, Modern Buildings & Street Life 2026Added:
Now that is one of the most beautiful buildings in Nairobi. It's simple and elegant. That is Cooperative Bank House.
27 years ago things were very ugly over here. This building was damaged a lot because of the terror attacks, the one that happened on the 7th of August 1998. Now this building was not targeted by the terrorist. They were more interested in the US Embassy which was next to this building and Ufundi Cooperative House. And those guys had about 1 ton of explosives. Like they brought the bombs with a truck. Now because of the blast this building took a serious serious hit and the glass on it was shattered. What amazes me every day is that this building survived like the structure of it yet it was completed in 1981.
The blast happened in 1998. So that's about 17 years later. That my friends is proper proper engineering and architecture. I would say very solid work and I think this building will be here for the next 100 or 200 years.
Anyways after the blast and all those things I think they did some very good and intense amount of repairs and reviews and all those things. And right now you can't even tell that this building was once hit by the blast. It looks so nice with the glass running from top to bottom. I'm assuming there's a lot of natural light in the offices.
The outside is even nicer because they do very very good maintenance. So you see some nice trees up on your on this side and then some nice flowers, some what. Place is very clean, very organized. This is very nice. Kayamba Quay. I would love to show you more of how nice this place is but unfortunately I don't have permission to take videos in certain places. You have to understand this is a bank. Anyways tomorrow we're going to talk about the bomb blast that happened on the 7th of August 1998. The darkest time in the history of Nairobi and Kenya. So see you tomorrow.
