HIRED on the spot! Back to my old JOBAdded:
Got to go up quite a bit. So, oh, it's not there.
I got it.
That's the center of the room.
That is a terrible spot to be center.
>> Right where that block is.
>> And the eye joist. Our ceiling fan is going to be a little bit >> off center.
>> Off. Yeah, it's right here. You see that?
>> Well, you can see all the way up there.
>> Yeah. So anyway, we're using the laser level to find where it's hitting me in the eye to find where the ceiling fan goes for the master bedroom here. We already have all of the receptacle box laid out or as most people call them, outlets.
>> Yeah, we finished plumbing up last week and now we're moving straight into electrical.
I'm all sorts of giddy about just moving along on projects and >> the leaks are is where you can say something about leaks.
>> Go ahead.
>> Some other surprise.
>> Uh the plumbing is holding. We have no leaks.
>> Yes, >> the little valve things. I got one of them to stop leaking by opening it all the way and blasting water out. I think I need to do it again to the other one, but no leaks.
>> Yeah, it's doing great. Also, some people suggested we should hire an electrician to do all our electrical.
So, good news. I've done it. Here he is.
He works for >> I'm getting paid.
>> He works for cheap.
>> Um, and cookie brownies.
>> I take He gets paid >> brownies and leftovers. Yep.
>> Um, yes. At one point I was an electrician for actually like probably less than six years unless you count this company that did fire alarm installs. Anyway, all I'm saying is I used to do that. I don't anymore. I'm not perfect. I'm probably I probably forgotten some things.
>> Mhm.
>> Uh even when I was doing it though, I didn't know everything, guys. So, take it easy on me down in the comments. But I am open to the tips and tricks of any trade. So, let me know if I'm doing it wrong and I'll let you know if you're right.
Anyway, >> let's put the ceiling box fan in.
>> Ceiling fan box.
>> Ceiling fan box. See, I'm already I don't know. I don't know at all. I'm I'm a big It's a big fan of I'm a big fan. This is not made for eye joist.
It's made for >> Does it not get any smaller?
>> No.
>> Um, make more two by material.
And on top of that, we're not doing drywall in here. So, it's got to actually hang lower than what the little ears got, you know, they're hanging down. I have to cut them off, >> you know.
>> Oh, okay.
>> Does that ruin the rating of the fan box?
>> No way.
I think it'll work.
>> Our ceiling fan won't fall down.
>> Yeah.
>> Rated for 50 lbs.
>> That's all you weigh?
>> That's what that's rated for.
>> Oh, okay.
>> So, I must be less.
>> Yes.
Yeah, I think this stud right here is the microwave. Put it up here somewhere.
We are trying to figure out where all the outlets are going to go throughout the house and it's taking more time than I thought it would. Just trying to figure out where everything's going to be placed. It's We're just Yeah, we don't have that all >> Do you want one right here?
>> Maybe.
>> So, there's >> I've heard that you can't have too many outlets in a kitchen. That's what I've heard. Well, I mean, you've got three on this wall already if you don't count the microwave, >> right?
>> Um, one on each side of the window.
>> There's the range is here and then right behind me.
>> Yep.
>> So, >> I don't know. Throw one in there. You won't regret it. That's what I've heard.
>> You can't have too many outlets. That's what I've heard. So, throw it in there.
>> Okay. I'm going to put one right here on this wall.
>> We designed our own house with our own ideas, but you know, it's not completely thought through exactly how everything's going to look. So, we're finding little things that we have to work around. Like this pipe here, we put our water pipe in at just some random height. We didn't really like >> I feel I feel like I remember thinking about the outlets and I think I had a plan. They're going the one over there.
It's going above it.
>> Yeah.
>> It's not too >> So that this same thing though happened in the bathroom as well. We just put the pipe at a height. We didn't really like think >> Yeah.
>> So we're learning.
>> But that worked out though.
>> It's Yeah.
>> I put it. We're making it work.
Everything is working out >> because over there it wasn't just the pipe. It was the backsplash and the mirror above.
>> So we turned the outlet sideways >> so that the mirror wasn't oddly high.
Yeah, >> I think it's just right.
>> I It is It's going to work out just right. But it is taking us some time.
Like I feel like we haven't >> accomplished a lot work-wise, I guess.
But there's been a lot of talk >> and a lot of like figuring out where things go. So, >> we'll get it done. We'll get it all figured out. It is fun, though. I have to admit I'm really enjoying this. The thought of like, okay, I'm going to have this here and this there. And anyway, fun, but it's taken time.
>> I mean, it would any other way, too.
>> Yeah.
>> Whether you design the house or not, >> there's there's always going to be a problem.
>> Yeah.
>> Things you got to figure out.
>> Yep.
What if we put one like over here on this wall and then the other one over there on that wall? They're just opposite.
>> That sounds good. Yeah, >> cuz it's so long in here, >> right?
>> Kids have been playing.
>> Yep.
Anything touching it?
>> No.
>> Still good.
>> I can't. It's making me nervous.
There it is right there.
>> All right. Can you just like knock it out the rest of the way there?
>> Beat it out.
>> Yeah.
>> Let me give it a try.
>> This pipe is too close this way to fit our box in.
So, we're trying to scooch it back a little bit out of the way of the electrical box.
>> Yeah, the plumber.
>> They didn't consider us electricians.
>> No, they didn't.
>> Why are you laughing?
>> Cuz I'm the plumber.
>> Because you're the plumber.
>> Oh, there it goes.
Looks good.
>> That'll work.
>> Came out without a scratch.
>> Perfect.
Okay.
You like it?
>> I just came up with it >> cuz we don't have like jack stands with rollers. So, I >> thought of that.
>> Look at that. That works pretty good.
>> It does work good. Okay. I'm actually not going to be the one pulling wire just yet. I want you to do that.
>> Me?
>> Uhhuh. The panel's in the >> laundry room.
>> Is going in the laundry room.
>> Right.
>> So, the the home run for the master here, it's actually going to hit that random outlet in the laundry room first.
>> Okay.
>> And then come into the room right here.
That guy.
>> So, like up and >> up and over. Okay.
>> Not straight across.
>> Oh, yes.
So I don't have to climb over the wire every time I go up to the laundry room.
>> Yeah.
>> Okay. Yeah.
>> So we'll hit this guy.
>> I'd save so much wire though.
>> Natalie, >> I'm just Anyway, continue.
>> Silly lady. Okay. Did I say Well, I'm I'm going to be nailing boxes. Did I say that? I don't >> I don't >> you do the wire. Get the wire started.
I'm going to in try to get the rest of the boxes we have installed.
switches and outlets.
Well, that guy fits right in there, doesn't he?
>> Yeah.
All right. Yeah.
One, two, There we go.
Okay. So, let's get it.
>> Yeah. Right in here somewhere.
Now you're just going to hold it while it pools.
>> Yeah.
Double check everything. Actually turned out pretty good. No kinks or anything.
Just a little offset >> sweep. Yep. Beautiful.
Well, how'd it go in the master bedroom for you?
>> I've learned some things.
>> Yeah, >> but I've done it. I'm all done with the first run. Circuit. What do you call circuit?
>> Circuit.
>> All righty. I finished.
>> Besides the home run, but >> yeah, >> I want to Well, it's right goes right next to the panel anyway.
>> You got to get the panel in after you're done with all these little >> special guys. I guess >> I want to get the boxes in upstairs next.
>> Oh, yeah. So, >> so I have we have some metal boxes. This uh Let me come over there. Explain.
We're in the pantry here.
>> Mhm.
>> And watch your feet. I'm going to >> move this guy.
You guys remember the root cellar?
>> It's down there holding potatoes.
>> Yeah, Natalie has potatoes down there already.
>> Yep.
>> About a 8 to 9 ft drop from here. But what that is going to be is the light switch for down there. So the light switch will be on a three-way >> switch will be down there and up here.
Actually that does that even make sense? Well, there's a reason for that actually cuz this is kind of going to act as a safe room as well. Anyway, um you get on the elevator, you turn the light on, and you have your remote for for the elevator, and you lower yourself down. So, that's what that's for is the light switch. It is piped in the concrete wall down there.
>> Um that's how I will also bring power to the hoist. So, that's what that metal box is for. I've got the range metal box that can be plastic, but for range, I like a little more sturdy box for that. And then over by the front door, I put another metal box to a conduit that goes outside for future power to who knows what.
>> Outside things. Yep.
>> Outside things. So, those are done and out of the way.
So, I pretty much got all of the boxes mounted, switches and outlets. Uh, I do have a couple other things to still mount like vanity light boxes and whatnot, but I'm going to do that later.
I want to get going on the electrical panel install here and it'll be mostly simple. I do have conduits that I need to run up into the bottom of it. The 2 in is going to be somewhat of a problem because it looks like it's coming up out of the floor at an angle, but we'll just we'll heat the pipe up to get it to bend how we want it. Now, I actually want to ask you guys for a favor. For those of you who have experience in running low voltage wiring like for internet um you know your CAT fives or C sixes, I actually don't have I have hardly any um experience running that stuff. My part of the trade was mostly just high higher voltage things, 120 to 480 volt stuff. So, I'm reaching out to you guys, those of you who have a pretty good idea on this thing. How do you run the internet um low voltage wiring in a home? Is it as simple as just daisy chaining from one location to the next until you get to the first or last one and run a home run cable to a central location? Or does each location get its own cable to a central location? Anyway, that's kind of what I'm unsure of. I don't we don't really plan on really hooking into this system, but I want to have it in just in case, right?
We're kind of outside people and don't really plan on watching lots of TV over the internet or whatever, but we do want to have it installed in our home because it'll be pretty much impossible to do later. So, leave your comment down below, help me out. And with that, I'm going to go ahead and install this panel.
Oh, that's there it goes.
Perfect.
Okay, that one goes right there.
Watch this. Ready? Look at that.
You can't hard. Well, you can't tell at all.
You flop it around a little bit, but it's a I mean, you could squeeze it, too. You know, >> it's fun. I'm just kind of eyeballing them to get them lined up with their knockouts up here. Mhm.
>> We'll take the panel off, put the connectors in, and then bring the panel back on, put all the glue on, and >> put it >> slide it down.
>> Yeah. Slide it down.
>> Okay.
Little tight.
That's a good thing though.
Okay. Two. Three.
Oh, boy.
Come on, little buddy.
Oh my goodness. Just go in right there.
All right, last one. No, you got this guy >> that popped out. Oh, >> there.
I believe we're all in. I >> think so.
Is it going?
>> Feel like it's hung up somewhere. Yeah, it's not really going.
>> Don't try this at home.
>> Oh gosh.
>> I want to go.
>> I don't know.
>> They're in there.
The glue is setting up. Could be part of the problem.
Is it going?
>> I'm not.
>> Please look.
>> Okay.
>> Okay. It's not.
>> It's not.
>> Uh-uh. It went a little bit, I think.
But >> maybe it bottomed out.
>> Maybe. I have no idea.
>> Nothing.
>> Mm- >> All right. Well, that's it then.
>> Okay.
>> All right. That glue, it dried really fast.
>> Mhm.
>> So, I mean, pipes are in the connectors, but they could be a little more in the connectors than what they turned out to be, but they're in. So, we're moving on.
All right.
>> Going to leave it just like that.
>> Well, until I get a ground bar.
>> Oh. Oh, you really are going to leave it just like that?
>> Yeah.
And it's way more than enough, but >> Yeah. Well, I'll curl it up, you know.
>> All right.
>> So, it doesn't poke you in the eye.
>> Oh, thank you.
>> I was a little concerned.
You're doing a great job on running this wire. Oh, thanks. I'm learning a few things. I'm getting faster, I think, as I get used to it.
>> Well, you've got this whole section, this bedroom, bathroom section downstairs is done.
>> Yep.
>> Um, including the home runs. Five home runs. Ran to the panel.
>> Right.
>> Natalie's doing awesome, guys.
>> Um, little uh pro tip, I think, real quick.
I don't know. Bathroom circuits, your GFIs have to be on a dedicated circuit. They cannot share with anything else in the house. There is an exception where the bathroom lighting can be on it, but in our case, we're not doing it that way because we have three bathrooms. So, this bathroom and the upstairs bathroom are going to share a circuit. And then the master bathroom is going to be on its own um dedicated circuit for the outlets, the GFIs because of hair dryers and stuff. You know, it's those darn >> energy suckers.
>> Yeah. Or what's that flat iron thing? Uh hair straightener.
>> Yeah, I couldn't remember that.
>> You messed me up.
>> That you use that obviously. Uh, something cool about the bathrooms. I have plans to put my own touch on some of the lighting fixtures. Well, all the ones for the bathrooms. The the uh vanity lights. I'm going to make them from scratch. I've made a couple in the past for our old house that turned out really cool. This time, I'm going to try something a little different and see if I can do something neat out of a juniper log or something and have some lights coming out of it. So, little teaser for the future for you guys there. Uh, yeah.
I think uh next week you're just gonna keep pulling the wire. Yep.
>> And I'm going to stick to the technical stuff, I guess. Uh, actually, I'm going to be digging a trench.
>> Yes, you are.
>> I'm going to dig a trench from the house to the shed. That's going to be for the power supply to get it over from our solar power system. And it's a given.
We're going to run into some big boulders. It'll be fun. So, make sure you're there. Thank you for watching.
Make sure you give us a like and stay safe out there.
