Justice Katanji Brown Jackson dissented in both cases, arguing the court still has not addressed whether private individuals can sue under section two of the Voting Rights Act. No.

Supreme Court tosses the redistricting rulings in Minneapolis, Miss Mississippi, and North Dakota. That was May 18th. That's not really uh what we're looking for.

Earlier this month, Supreme Court toss a three judge panel's previously finding that the map was a result of unlawful racial gerrymandering. Asking the panel to reconsider the case in light of the justice's ruling in Louisiana versus Cala. And um the cat's name, you talking about my cat or CF Rob's cat? My cat's name's Frisky. I'm not sure. But the they didn't even consider anything. They didn't even do anything. They just kicked it back and then they immediately said no. So they didn't consider nothing. They said, "No, we don't have to consider anything. We already found this." So which significantly raised the legal bar for provide proving claims of intentional racial discrimination. Three judge panel came to the same same conclusion. Well, they they didn't even do anything. They just said, "Yeah, you nothing changed." They just said nothing changed.
uh uh general the solicitor Alabama solicitor general argued to supreme court in his emergency petition that the renewed ruling defies rather than follows the Cala ruling because it does so among other faults the district court's injunction halts ongoing election preparations for reasons that defy Cala the pair of emergency petitions read Alabama argued in it petition that the state follow the standard set out in Clay while promoting its goals of protecting incumbents among other racneutral objectives when drawing the app that the lower court still insisted the officials need to create two black majority districts.
So yeah, uh my cat's name is Frisky.

This says Alabama Republicans asked Supreme Court to allow the map found racially discriminatory. exit. That's what they see the thing is they were using the rules. So they were using the rules that are like bad rules when they came up with this. Like basically like no, you have to have black districts because you got this many people. If you don't have black districts, you're discriminating. That's that that's ridiculous. Like they're they're playing games.
>> Redistricting plans hit roadblocks today. One political, one legal. Let's start with the political one. South Carolina state Senate has defied President Trump and is not moving forward on a newly drawn map and a federal court has blocked redistricting in Alabama. That map was found to discriminate against black voters.
Republicans say they will appeal that decision to the Supreme Court. Jan Crawford is with me to break all this down. Let's talk about Alabama first.
Jan, and I want to read from you the opinion released today by the US District Court, Northern District of Alabama control room. This is uh if I can find it in my notes here. Quote number one.
Our previous review of the undisputed evidence left us in no doubt that Alabama's legislatively enacted plan intentionally discriminated based on race in violation of the Constitution.
Our re-examination in light of Cala yields the same conclusion. That's super important, that last sentence, is it not? Well, the Supreme Court after they issued that landmark decision in Cala, which kind of limited the scope of section two of the Voting Rights Act, um after that decision came down, of course, that was a case from Louisiana, the justices, uh sent a similar case from Alabama, uh a fight over those districts, back down to that federal district court panel and said, "You need to rethink your decision, uh in light of our, you know, landmark ruling." That's very common. The court does that all the time when it has a major decision that kind of changes our thinking on the law.
Um, and the reason this decision is significant today is because the court concluded after looking at Clay, the the big Supreme Court decision that did not require a different result. This is a very convoluted, complicated legal issue that goes back several years. Um, this federal district court panel, the one that you quoted from, uh, had originally said and ordered Alabama to create two majority black districts. Right now, we get the Cala decision. Alabama saying, "Oh, the court is going to make it much harder to have majority black districts.
We want to go back to one district like we had always had." So today, the federal court panel saying, "No, you've got to stick with two because there was intentional race discrimination." And that the Supreme Court said in Kle is um kind of that very narrow category uh where >> constitutional if it's intentional and clearly so >> it's unconstitutional under the 14th amendment. And that's how this is an exception to Kala the the big decision and that's why justice soayor uh made that point uh week before last when the the court sent this case back to Alabama >> and this is a graphic too control room because this is important because the Supreme Court has also said look partisan motives are fine in redistricting matters we're not going to get involved in that. So graphic number two council meaning state of Alabama argues mightily that the legislaturator's partisan motive drove the creation of the 2023 plan. That's the one you just referenced. But this enormous record contains no evidence of a partisan motive.
>> Okay. This is an interesting point in this opinion. Um because again the panel is saying so therefore the the original Alabama Republican district with only one majority black district that was intentional race discrimination. Um and there was no evidence that it was by party to to enhance the Republican standing in the state. There is some wiggle room in this decision where Alabama could try to say okay let's see if we can real quick find some more of that evidence and drop a different plan.
Maybe a plan like in Tennessee where there are all Republican districts in the state. I don't think the state's going to have time for that. And I think this decision forecloses it uh because it says >> even though it's going to be appealed to the high court.
>> Yeah. And I I I'm willing to bet the court's going to give this one a pass.
But this it looks like Alabama's going to have two majority black districts for this.
>> So So the court ordered them to create two black districts, which the Supreme Court said you can't do that. you can't order ra uh districts be drawn by race and they're they think that's oh but that's okay because we said it's if you don't do that it's discrimination this is [ __ ] like there's no way that this should stand hey look at this Joe said let us begin for $2 [music] thank you so much Joe that means right now we are 98 away from adding a first additional hour to the show and just 48 away from television yeah this is defying Scottus and so this is clearly CBS news with these people like ah the deficit is going to give it a pass. I don't think so.

Yeah, it is. It's crazy. Districts should be divided on population numbers or voters without race being considered at all. Yeah, but that the court ordered them to create two black districts. So, how is that not a violation of what the Supreme Court said?
>> But I bet Alabama goes back to the drawing board real quick.
>> And very quickly, South Carolina was considering redrawing the maps. It went to the state senate. had to make a conclusion on that. Today, the state senate said, "No, we're going to leave the lions as they are." Which means Jim Klyurn and his district line.
>> Yeah. They're going to leave them while they are because they're rhinos. So, Alabama Republicans asked the Supreme Court on Wednesday to allow a state to use a congressional map created in 2023 that would give the GOP an edge in the midterm elections. So, then it's right there. It's partisan. and it's going to give the GOP an edge in the midterms after a district district court found that it was racially discriminatory because they didn't have enough black districts, but they can't order them to have black districts. See how this is like circular going around and around and around and around and around like state officials as the court for emergency relief Alabama uh after the district court ordered Alabama to a court approved map that includes two majority black districts.
Uh the three judge court panel found that the redistricting plan uh which was one majority minority district intentionally discriminated against black voters. How about make no uh majority black districts? Just take the just draw a line straight across the map. Go here we go. Just like this.
Clunk clunk clunk. Nope.
Yeah. So if the blacks they have to vote again. So dumb. Just vote. Yeah. It's crazy. It is gypsy.
Alabama and the public face irreparable harm unless the state issues because they will able to use the state's duly enacted plans for the 2026 election.
Worse still, voters will be forced to vote under a court-drawn racial gerrymander that does not meet Alabama's legitimate districting goals. Uh they said the 2023 map was lawful then and it's lawful now. Uh Alabama Republicans moved to revert back to congressional lines drawn three years ago after Supreme Court weakened the key provision. It didn't weaken. just said, this is the thing. The way these these [ __ ] people talk, it just drives me baddy. It says you cannot use you can't use race. The Voting Rights Act says you cannot do anything racially. You can't race can't be a part of it. No racial discrimination. That means you can't use race. But they want to force them to use race. This is the delay to left. Like they go, "Oh, it says you can't be racist, so that means we have to use race." It's crazy.
Uh, in anticipation of the three-year-old map being put in place, Alabama set a special primary for August 11th for the four House districts that would be recrafted under the plan.
Primaries for the other House seats remain unaffected. The ongoing battle over Alabama's congressional map is part of the fallout from the voting rights decision. the effort is in line with President Trump's push to to actually make the states represent the people and the voting power because why why should the Republican states be forced to have these goofy districts when the Democrats aren't? There's no there's no goofy drawn districts that demand that in Illinois or in you know Maryland or Massachusetts or New York or there's none of these places where they have districts specifically so that the Republicans can get a district but they have to draw a map so that Democrats get a district.
Huh.
Uh on the heels of decision Alabama officials asked the Supreme Court to set aside the injunction that had blocked the state from using the map. the high court agreed to do so and set the case back. So the Supreme Court said, "Yeah, you set this aside. You can't force them to use those maps. You can't force them to do that." And then they're like, "Nope, we can force them." And they didn't even they didn't look at anything. It as soon as it got back to them, they immediately said, "Nope, that that's that's the it was like immediately." So ultimately, we cannot see our way clear to requiring Alamians to cast their votes under a discriminating plan tainted by race-based discrimination. Yeah. That's why you can't have them use the map that you justice judges drew.
Alabama as Supreme Court to allow map that see how the ladies put it that dilutes black vote. No, it doesn't dilute the black vote. It just doesn't dilute Republican vote.
You know, I mean that's just ridiculous the way they word it.
You can tell they're just racist the way they word that stuff.
All right, on to the next story. So, well, I I I suspect if the Supreme Court is going to just uh say, "Yeah, no, sorry, uh appeals court. You're just playing games here. You did not you did not look at anything. You just said, "No, they intentionally discriminated because they didn't have two black districts." What?
So, we'll see. So, on to the next story here. We got uh a journalist son of a politician is accused of selling intelligence to Beijing.

Thomas Pawin II, who lives in China for more than a decade and worked for multiple Chinese state media outlets, was allegedly paid at least $100,000 for working with an individual individual within the Ministry of State Security, which is tasked with espionage operations. According to the affidavit, the handler, a woman he called Kathy.
Wow. So, what do you know? What do you know? A woman called Kathy. We had a woman called Fang Fang. We had other people with all these other politicians.

Pawin was arrested in March is facing a plea hearing on May 29th. He said he Pawin said he prepared reports and recorded interviews with Kathy through Telegram or WeChat, a Chinese social media app, before deleting the messages at Cathy's request. Pawin is the son of Tom Pawin, the director of a federal agency that managed domestic volunteer programs during the Reagan administration. Oh, so a guy who a guy who worked under the Reagan administration, was he really a Republican? Probably not. Who later chaired the Texas Republican party in the Texas Work Workforce Commission? So, look at this. Chinese nationals charged with laundering money for the cartels.

Younger Pawkins Chinese associates were obsessed with detaining information on his father, who had allegedly asked his son to use an alias to avoid being tied to his activities in China. According to the filing, younger pawin uses the pseudamman Tom McGregor. The affidate stated the younger pawin took a lie detector detector test at Cathy's urging and connected Kathy with a person now working for a US government agency who received multiple payments from the Chinese intelligence agent for information he gleaned from the person regarding the Trump administration's thinking.

According to the FBI agent who drafted the affidavit, Pawan made several trips between 2019 and 2025. And Kathy wired about 7 to8,000 to Pawkins wife to compensate for each trip. The FBI agent wrote, "In addition to Kathy, Pawkins said he worked with a group of Chinese individuals based in Wuhan, China."

So, the the sought information related to technology and the justice department. According to the filings, the men wanted Pawan to find an expert to assist with their cyber espionage efforts.
The individual who worked for the US government was not named. In the documents, he told the FBI that he stopped working with Pawan after receiving the laptop and foam, but reconnected with Pawan around January through a mutual contact. So, who is this person that worked for the government? That's what I'd like to know. He said he then began working as a potential intermediar on an oil deal involving one or more Chinese or foreign firms. According to the court filing, in a February meeting, Pawan allegedly met the person at a hotel, gave him a SIM card, and offered him $10,000 for agreeing to work with the with Kathy.
Pawan said Kathy expected one report per week, which would be set to Xi and influence policy.

An appeal to the high court is expected in the coming months, possibly late summer. So, this guy gets to just stay here for months without them even filing the appeal. If I was the Trump administration, I would immediately take it to the Supreme Court and say, "No, [ __ ] Either they file with you and you either grant s or not or he's leaving."
The Homeland Department of Homeland Security did not comment on the decision. Yeah, because Mark Wayne Mullen is too busy doing whatever the [ __ ] he's doing to do his job. As the court director, CO's lawyers have also argued his case in immigration court so far unsuccessfully. He now has a separate appeal of those proceedings pending before the fifth circuit court of appeals. Tuesday's stay provides Khalil an extra layer of insulation against possible rearrest and deportation while his other appeals are still pending. Is that is that how it's supposed to work? You're supposed to get other layers of protection by the courts to protect you from the laws being [ __ ] applied to you.
The court did not provide a reason for its decision, but said if no timely petition is filed, parties needs to let the courts know in writing.

The investigation is focused on whether Carol committed perjury and testimony tied to her true civil lawsuits against the president. One alleging he sexually abused her and another saying he defamed her. Prosecutor's theory hinged on a 2022 deposition statement by Carol that she receives no outside funding for her lawsuit, though it was later revealed that billionaire Reed Hoffman had paid some legal fees and expenses. Now, over at the Justice Department, acting attorney general Todd Blanch, I am told, has recused from this case because he worked on one of the appeals uh related to the Carol case.
Now, I'm told he has not attended any meetings or been in any discussions about this investigation. The case is currently being handled attorney's office. The judge, the scumbag judge that rigged it against Trump in this trial said, "Yeah, even though she lied under oath, we're not going to let you tell the jury that she already lied under oath and you have her for lying under oath and I don't really care that she lied."

The South Carolina redistricting map that eliminates Democrat Clyburn's gerrymander seat is likely DOA.
Over the weekend, the South Car South Kalaki Senate advanced a 2026 redistricting map that eliminates its racially gerrymandered seat. However, on Tuesday, a closure vote to force debate failed.
Early voting begins today. Here are the South Kakalaki Senate Rhinos who voted to kill the new redistricting map.

Uh those close to the White House said they were surprised by the failed vote, one calling it a betrayal of the president. The vote on Tuesday will effectively uh back block more action from being done to change South Kalaki.
As the vote failed, South Kalaki attorney general said the map is moving one step closer to becoming law.

If the state senate picks up the map again, any map redraw would likely target the seat held by James Klyber, the lone demon rat.

I'm Asia Reid. CBS 13's Brad Rogers is live in Augusta with details. Brad, the Secretary of State declared today the petition contained too many invalid signatures. Brad, >> right? And because of that, Asia, she ruled this morning that uh this will not be on the November ballots. This referendum will not be on the ballot.
The secretary initially validated the petition and put it on the ballot, which if passed would have designated school sports participation and facilities by sex. But after signatures were challenged, a judge ordered further review. That's when Secretary Bellow says her staff, under the supervision of the state attorney general's office found additional invalidated signatures, putting the petition 532 signatures short of the number of signatures needed to call for a referendum. She says most of those invalidated signatures came from two out ofstate petitioners who left their post while people were signing petitions. We take the integrity of the petition process just as seriously as we take the security of the vote.

Unfortunately, in this case, at least two outofstate circulators failed to follow main law, and that is why their petitions have been invalidated.

They left petitions unattended for periods of time in which people were signing those petitions.
Therefore, their oath was not valid and their petitions were ruled to be invalid. And >> so what she's saying is they walked, somebody had to go to the bathroom and they left the table for a couple minutes and walked away and then someone went up and signed. So they invalidated all 12,000 signatures cuz one person signed.
That's actually what happened. All right. Oh, they walked away. They had to go to the bathroom. So they went to the bathroom, they came back, they're all invalid now. So just remember >> Yeah. Were there other signatures that were invalid as well based on the fact that all their >> there were some additional signatures that were ruled to be invalid uh in the appeal to the court Gilbert at all challenged those collected by circulators who failed to agree to the jurisdiction of the laws of the state of Maine on their initial applications. uh the hearing officer recommended that the signatures collected by those circulators who failed to submit to the jurisdiction of the laws of the state of Maine be invalidated and I have upheld that recommendation. So there were circulators who never checked the box agreeing to submit to the laws of the state in the signature gathering process. Additionally, the staff conducted in keeping with the court remand a further review. So they're not so none of the signatures, the people that signed, they're not saying that the people that signed weren't ma main people wanting it done. What they're saying is, "Oh, this person didn't check a box on this form, so we're going to throw out all the signatures they collected." Yes. Riley Gains, anyone?

A federal judge delayed Comey's trial until November as he fights charges accusing him of threatening to harm President Trump. Comey's attorneys are prepared multiple motions on constitutional grounds that they argue could lead to the case being thrown out.

Because the Houston based district is overwhelming Democrat Democrat, Menafi is expected to win.
The contest marked the latest chapter. I want you to look at this. All right.
You're talking about less than 50,000 votes.
Got to miss the Kane. Yeah. Less than 50,000 votes in a district. Yeah. Al Green is gone. Definitely. That's good.
But less than 50,000 votes in the primary for a district that has over 800,000 people in it.
Talk about uh you know, Al Green got 15,000 votes out of 800,000 people in that district. That's insane. That's insane.
The context marked the latest chapter chapter in a terminal period for the district. Political upheaval that began after the death of longtime Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee in 2024.

Months later, former Houston mayor Sylvester Turner, who succeeded Jackson Lee in Congress, died just two months into his term. The vacancy could become a major issue in Texas politics after Greg Abbott postponed calling an election until November 2025, leaving the district without representation in Congress for roughly eight months during a closely divided session. I remember holding a sign when Trump addressed Congress. The sign said, "Black people are not apes." Yeah, that was crazy, right? Why would he do that? That's racist to hold that sign. Texas Republicans approved a new map and significantly redrew the Houston area district and revised the boundaries, folded much of Green's ninth district into a newly configured 18th, creating an uncommon match up between two demon rat incumbents.

Manify won a January special election under the new district on a district's previous boundaries to finish the remainder of Turner's terms. However, both Meny and Green had already filed to run in the March primary under the new districts. The two advanced to Tuesday's runoff. There's little ideological difference between the two candidates.
CNN will hire Green. Oh, I don't think they're gonna I don't think anybody's going to hire Green. He's he's he's he's too obscene. You know, Green ran on immigration reform, abortion access, LGBTQ and help and helping veterans housing and preserving Medicare, Medicaid. Oh, wow. Uh, Meny raised 3.5 million while Green raised over 1.5 million.

He was the 29th member of Congress to be censured. The congressman's behavior disrupted the proceeding of a joint address and was a b a breach of proper conduct. Well, it totally was a breach. on Sunday. All were listened in good conditions. An 18-year-old and two 16-year-olds and a 14-year-old boy. At 10:56 on Monday, four more people were shot at 4,800 block in West Fulton.
Again, CBD said the victims were all in good conditions. Men aged 25, 27, 35, and a 34 year old woman.
Three people were shot as CPD worked to disperse a massive gathering at the lakefront in Hyde Park on Monday night, prompting police to quickly release surveillance images of the gunman and asked the public to help trap him down.

He relocated to another location where firefighters treated him for a wound to the hand and transported him to Mount Sinai Hospital. A 700 block of North Avers Avenue. Two women sitting in a gray vehicle were struck by gunfire. A 32-y old was shot in the leg, taken to Stroger Hospital. That's Cook County Hospital, Stroger Hospital. In fair condition, a 31-year-old was shot twice in the chest and twice in the arm. Was taken to Mount Cyani. In fair condition on Saturday, May 23rd, uh 7300 block of South Carpenter, two unknown offenders approached a 32-y old man standing outside and opened fire before fleeing.
The man was taken to St. Bernard Hospital in fair condition with three gunshot wounds to the lower body.
uh 4,500 block West Belmont. Uh 35-year-old woman driving a Nissan struck a 62-y old woman who was on foot.
The pedestrian was taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
On Sunday, an unknown location, 21-year-old man self transported to Norwegian Hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg was listed in good condition.
He was uncooperative with off officers seeking information about the shooting.

Uh 5 51 year old man was walking outside, heard gunshots, felt pain, self transported to Stroger with a wound to the right arm, was listed in good condition. 2000 block of West Randolph. Self transported to Stroger Hospital in serious but stable condition. 6900 block of South Stony Island Avenue.
64 year old woman, a passenger in an SUV was traveling northbound was killed when a dark-colored sedan traveling eastbound struck the vehicle. Driver's sedan fled on foot. She was pronounced at the scene. Major accident investigation unit is investigating.
Uh 2200 block of South Keeler. A 30-year-old man standing outside heard a loud noise realized he'd been struck self-transported to Mount Sinai Hospital with a wound to his leg and was listened in fair condition. at an unknown location. Two men self transported to Mount Sinai after being struck by gunfire. 27year-old was treated for a wound to the leg and released.
29year-old sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the body. Was list in good condition. Both were uncooperative with police about the circumstances of the shooting.

35-year-old standing outside her gunshots, felt pain, self-transported to rush with a wounded leg, list in good condition. Tuesday, 5100 block of South Emerald. Verbal argument between a 24 and a 52-y old man escalated into a physical fight. A 24 year old produced a firearm and shot the 52-year-old in the head. Victim was taken to University of Chicago in critical condition. 24 year old was taken to custody pending charges.
