Retirement is a significant psychological transition that requires adjustment rather than celebration, as individuals may continue to think about work and feel strange about not working, even after years of preparation; this adjustment period is normal and should be approached with acceptance rather than fear.

Two Days Into Retirement and I Still Can't Switch Off — Walking and Talking (Part One)
Added:Good morning. So, today we're doing something a little bit different.
Flying solo, if you will, out here. Me, the dogs as ever.
No script.
Nothing pre-thought out.
Um, why? Well, why not?
And I I just thought I'd go somewhere different this morning.
Um, and when you look out behind me and you see that view across the wheelchair countryside, you kind of start to realize just how good life is right now.
And I think I think that's what this video is going to be about.
So, I'm Dave and this is the over 65 reset.
I guess it feels quite weird.
You're going to think what feels weird.
What feels weird is being out here in this this stunning stunning countryside.
It really brings meaning to England's green and pleasant land, doesn't it?
But that's not what feels weird.
What feels weird is it's it's about 10:00 in the morning and on any other day I'd be at work, but I'm not.
I'm not because I'm retired and it's all a bit surreal at the minute.
I don't know why that would be the case.
makes no sense because because I've been working towards it for 49 years and now that it's here.
Well, now that it's here, nothing nothing inside me seems to be excited about it.
>> [clears throat] >> it, but it doesn't feel normal.
It's uh it's kind of a weird feeling.
A good feeling, but weird just the same.
And what I found is I still find myself thinking about work at the minute anyway. What's going on? What are they doing?
Bizarrely, do you think it's going okay at work?
Why does that matter to me? Well, it shouldn't. It's not my responsibility.
But I guess that's because I've had that commitment for so long.
I'm sure that's something that will come in time is to walk away and not not look back.
But it is a good feeling.
So if you're working towards retirement, don't fear it. I think that's the first thing to say is don't fear it.
One of the things I said at the beginning of this video was it was probably going to be about getting outside.
And how can you not want to get outside when you've got views like this behind you?
Absolutely stunning all the way around as far as the eye can see.
We're just so lucky. We don't realize what we've got until that kind of view is taken away from us.
And and I think that's part of I guess that's what this partly what this is about, isn't it? Is being able to get out there and walk and talk and experience these places before we can't.
And regardless of how much I try, how much I walk, how much I exercise, there will come a time where I can't do that anymore. I won't be able to walk up hills.
I won't be able to get down on the floor and play with my grandchildren.
I hope that's a long long long way away from for me.
But here's the thing.
You don't know, do you? You don't know what's around the corner.
Sounds a bit glum, bit grim, but that's a reality, isn't it?
So, I've been walking about a K and a half so far. So, not very far at all. Glorious day.
And we've reached we've reached um this little uh can behind us.
And uh we got a good 360 view here.
We've got corn on the cob behind us as we know it in the UK. We've got I don't know. It's wheat over there. Is it? I'm sure the farmers out there will be able to tell me. And something green growing next to it. Looks like onions, but I wouldn't know. I wouldn't know for sure. But let's have a look all the way around here.
This stunning stunning Wiltshire countryside.
Absolutely lovely. I've been up here when it's raining as well and misty.
And whilst you don't get the views, there's still something just as as beautiful about it. It's just different.
Where are we heading? We're going to be going down that track there into the wood. probably out the other side along the edge of the wood and then come back around. Probably be about about six kilometers give or take. So, let's go.
Wait, wait, wait.
Wait, wait, wait.
I know you want some more.
Good girl.
Wait, wait, wait, Ben. Wait, Ben.
Good girl, Ellie.
Wait, wait, wait.
Wait. Good girl.
Good girls.
White. White abs. White abs.
Very good.
