A cold front moving through an area causes a temperature drop (about 10 degrees in this case) and brings cooler air, with higher pressure systems following to create a dry stretch before more unsettled weather returns.

Cooler air moving into Indiana for a couple days before storms and 80s return this weekendAdded:
officially to like the home stretch in a matter of days.
>> It feels like it, you're right. May goes by so fast. It's 4:18. We've had Mayweather in the afternoons, but then we start off pretty cool and we're doing that again today, Matt. We are, but we won't get as warm today. We'll be in the 60s. It's not going to be an arctic front, but my goodness, the weather has been treating us nicely, which is weird because I feel like we always get hit in May, but we're getting a quick break before I do think some more storm chances are in our future forecast, but today at least we're dry cuz the rain's already out of here.
We're tracking showers leaving Indianapolis. Some of our southern counties are still getting some light rain, but no thunderstorms out there, just a few raindrops and they'll only be here for a little bit longer. They're moving about 30 mph to the east and so when you time out the the back edge, they're not going to last too much longer. This is a very rough timing, but we may be done here in 20-30 minutes or so for Columbus and and Bedford and we get that all into Ohio later this morning. Indianapolis, we've now dried out. We've definitely dried out to the north and west. In fact, skies have already cleared around Carmel and Lebanon. Good morning around Muncie and Kokomo, Tipton, all the way up northwest to Lafayette and Monticello.
We are a lot drier. So I could kind of paint the cold front right in here.
We'll have to adjust it throughout the morning as that front pushes on through.
Now, it was strong enough to give us about a 10-degree temperature drop. At the end of the day, instead of 70s, we'll have highs in the 60s, but at least it wasn't too strong to produce a lot of severe weather, just some rain overnight. Some higher pressure will move in the next couple of days giving us a dry stretch before Look at all the unsettled weather out towards our west.
Starting on Friday and going to into the weekend and next week, we've got some on and off rain and storms, but this morning we are drying out here in Indianapolis as temperatures are starting to drop a little bit more.
Eventually, more of that west-southwest wind will turn into a northwest wind today. So we're seeing that wind direction change as the front comes on through. So instead of some of these 60s, I think by about 7:00 or so this morning, a lot more 50s will be out there. We're still slowly cooling off, but then we'll rebound with a decent amount of sun today. Should still be a nice day. It will feel noticeably cooler though. Instead of 70s, we'll have the 60s. Plus, northwest winds will pick up this afternoon. We could have some gusts up to 30 mph. So, that 68 will feel a little bit cooler once you factor in some of that wind. But, at least we are expecting still a dry day, which is great for a practice today.
Just make sure you grab a light jacket.
You didn't need one yesterday. And, you know, if it's warm enough for you, you can just put it underneath the the bleacher there to kind of give you a little bit more padding as you're sitting watching the Indy cars just go around. But, enjoy a nice quiet spring day. Just a little cool. So, a light jacket may do you some good. You're looking at future track 13. We get the clouds out of here for the morning, and then later this afternoon, there could be a spotty cloud or two, but really expecting dry weather and a little bit cooler weather the rest of the week.
We'll rebound this weekend, but then we do have some storm chances, and it's likely going to be a wet start next week. So, we do have to be on the lookout for some on-and-off rain starting on Friday. Coming up, I'm going to show you some of the shower chances, and we'll kind of look at an early look throughout the weekend as more rain and storms come in. I do think if you had to pick of, you know, the three-day weekend, let's say Friday through Sunday, Saturday will be your wettest day. But, on the flip side, Julia, 80s will be returning as well.
We'll welcome them back with open arms.
Thank you, Matt. Major
