When fishing remote ponds, positioning on the windward side (the shore where wind is blowing toward) significantly increases fishing success because wind pushes bait fish, insects, and flies toward that shore, concentrating food sources and attracting predatory fish like brook trout to that area.

Hiking MILES to Fish a New Remote Pond | Northern Maine Brook Trout FishingHinzugefügt:
On today's video, we are hiking into a remote Maine pond 2 miles, canoeing around, catching big brook trout, and having a ball. You're not going to want to miss it. Stay tuned.
Good morning, guys. We are headed for an adventure today. We're hiking into a pond that we have never been to. It's about a 2-mile hike.
We don't know if there's a boat there we can borrow. We don't know if there's even a spot we can cast from shore. But, looks like a pretty little pond on the map, and the fishing regulations say that there's fish in it, so we'll see.
So, we're going to load up the truck, grab our rods. We're going to pack light. We're not bringing a motor, just a paddle and an anchor. Hopefully, we can find some fish, maybe find a moose shedder, too, not get the truck stuck, and have a good time. Stay tuned.
That's what we call a northern Maine axle snapper.
Golden road cement.
Peter. Peter.
What are you doing, brother?
Well, we made it.
Going to unload. And we got about a 2-mile hike, so we do have to get across that, and the beavers got her dammed up pretty good.
So, I'm not sure how we're going to do that, but we'll see.
You might.
I mean, that probably looks like the safest bet.
I tell you what, that water is nice and clean. Maybe if you stand right there.
Everybody follow Donald.
That's not always the greatest advice, though.
We're not worried about that.
You're welcome.
Dude, this looks like a nice little trout pond right here.
But yeah, we got about a 2-mile hike.
What? Huh.
You thought that one was tough?
No. Dude.
Oh, yeah.
That is That one was tough, what?
What?
Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
You can get out of Oh, you got to get out of the photo.
Watch your foot. Watch which one you got married.
Yeah. That's the second beaver dam we crossed in the first 2 seconds.
100 ft, crossed two beaver dams.
Straight up hill the whole way.
We got to gain about 400 ft, 500 ft in elevation in like a mile.
It's a lot of physical exercise for this crew.
Speak for yourself.
We thought we were going to be hiking some boondocking trail through black growth up and over a mountain and The mountain part's true.
Yeah, the mountain part's true, I guess.
But somebody cut this whole trail open, so at least that tells me that hopefully it's worth fishing.
Already starting to sweat.
Sweating to go for >> I can't wait to see you put my skirt on.
Double time.
Good.
It's a pretty skirt you got.
>> know who you look like? It's You know Rick Ness?
No. From Gold Rush? No.
You look exactly like Rick Ness cuz he has that same shirt. It's the same but Amazon racing, but it's in the colors as that.
Call me Rick. This is insane.
The size of the rock wall these guys built cutting this road on the side of this mountain.
Can't imagine doing that 50 years ago.
However long it was. Yeah, you guys it's pretty cool as soon as we got up on top of this top of this mountain, it opens right up.
We got some serious moose sign. Really hoping to find a shed, preferably in the trail. Well, we're getting close. We're only about 500 yards. Somebody's definitely came in here and did some cutting.
Looks like we're getting close. Oh, this looks awesome.
Well, now we know for next time. Could have worn hikers.
Yeah, watch out on the moss on the rocks.
That's the only gripe with these kind of shoes. Wow.
We are coming down into it. Well, we just ran into the person that had cut this place open in front of us and he was kind enough to give us a few pointers and fill us in on some information on this place. Pretty cool.
It's always nice to run into somebody that's willing to share information. It looks like we go right here. Definitely gets fished, I think more than we were thinking.
But, excited nonetheless.
Unreal. We just came down and look at the mountain.
That's so sick.
So cool.
Going to grab a canoe and paddle out and see what happens.
>> Good catch.
Which one do you want?
I'll take aluminum.
Yeah, we can take aluminum.
Why you giving me pumpkin?
Wait, wait, I don't want to want any more, son.
There's a lot of bugs.
I'm going to leave.
Probably.
I am going to take my phone out of my pocket cuz it's perfect height to fall in.
Water is super clear.
You know what's the only unfortunate thing about this? What? We don't have a net in this boat.
If it's that serious, we can paddle. If it's that serious, if I get a 5-pounder on, you're going to have to paddle over.
Hooked up.
Hooked.
It's pretty big.
This thing's huge.
Dude.
Big one? Yeah.
It's a hog.
Dude.
Nice.
It's a football.
Wow.
Un- real.
And that is what we hiked all that way for.
Nice catch. Who's holding? Yeah.
Wow.
At least 10 degrees.
That might have been one of the biggest Was it? brookies I've ever caught. Did that thing look like 5 in thick?
Yeah.
>> Thick. Huh? It was probably 18. Not a keeper?
It was like It was hooked I'm just It's peaceful.
I'm trying not to yell. It was barely hooked.
Wow.
No [ __ ] Now whatever else you're having, you need to get stuff. Yeah.
You should You just holding straight up and nothing. Now he's going. Controlling.
Oh.
It wasn't even I just casted it out cuz I was going to paddle over here to talk to you guys.
>> I thought.
I was just uh getting ready to go talk to Dylan and Victoria in their canoe, so I cast out my rod out.
I don't think I was trolling for 20 seconds and that fish hit.
Well, at the very least we didn't get skunked and it was a hawker. I feel like I'm normally a loud person, but without the motor, it's so much quieter and more peaceful. Like it just it doesn't it almost didn't feel right to be like yelling and stuff about, you know.
We've been here about an hour. I got that one nice trout. The other guy that's here got one also pretty nice.
We uh we just tried to anchor in for a bit. Didn't get any bites, but we're going to paddle over try a different side of the pond. The side of the pond that the wind's blowing to. Maybe it's blowing a bunch of bait or flies or something, you know, towards that shore of the pond.
So, we're going to throw out the little trusty Amazon anchor here in a second.
See what we get over here.
Well, it's definitely not super deep here.
Fish on.
Let's go.
Nice. Hooked up.
Here, try and get him over here.
>> [sighs] >> It's a really pretty one.
It's a nice fish.
I'll try and just be gentle here. Oh, it's a hawker.
It's like the same size as the one I just caught.
I No net is really killing the vibe.
I don't want to try and boat flip it.
Oh, wow.
Holy cow.
Holy mackerel.
Hooked him perfect, too.
Nice.
Good job.
I got a picture, too.
Nice. Another I don't know, 17 18 in here.
Good job, Jay. Good job, huh?
That was a corker. I did get one really good picture of you with it before he made a Houdini escape.
Hooked up again.
I'm going to frisbee that over there.
Yeah, well, I don't know if you need a frisbee, but it does float, doesn't it?
We need the net.
Yeah, turn frisbee it.
Ready? Yep.
Brilliant toss.
Man, that rod is so Yeah. Hard to tell if it's Deceiving. a crazy fish or a walleye.
Looks like a good one. Get it over here.
Is it Here you want to grab it?
>> [laughter] >> Dude.
That is an absolute hammer.
And it came unhooked.
That thing is huge.
Ooh, it just splashed me.
Fin.
Ooh, that is It's chilly.
Gotta love it.
Switching to the windward side of the pond really made the difference, I think, cuz I think all the flies and we get we can see some flies on top of the water over here. Oh.
Ricky move.
Um I think all the flies and bait fish in here are getting pushed to this shore.
You got We Julia.
>> [sighs] >> Man.
Julia caught something good.
I don't know how people sit in canoes all day without nice seats.
Cuz this old aluminum canoe is a rough.
Take my back to breathe.
I think the canoe is getting a J up there.
I'm not a canoe person.
Especially just a rock solid What is this? Steel? Aluminum?
Aluminum.
Yeah, I don't know. Every time we use a canoe, I feel like an old Maine guide, but after two or three hours, I'm like, "Eh."
If there's a aluminum patrol in, that's what I'll do. Oh, yeah. I'm never picking a canoe over an aluminum. That's for sure.
All right, you can hop out.
All right, you're good.
>> And just like that, we're hiking back to the truck.
1.8 miles there, 1.8 back.
Thankfully, at least the whole hike back to the truck is downhill.
We got three nice trout.
We're going to head back to camp, have some lunch. As always, guys, thanks for watching Barrelville Outdoors.
