This perspective effectively reframes ADHD as an evolutionary mismatch rather than a clinical defect, shifting the focus from fixing "broken" brains to redesigning rigid modern environments. It is a powerful call to value neurological diversity over the narrow demands of standardized conformity.

If ADHD is genetic, which it is, it would only remain in the gene pool if it was conferring some sort of survival advantage to the species as a whole. The fact that ADHD is not declining, if anything it's going up, means that ADHD is conferring some kind of survival advantage. The ADHD caveman is probably the one who's like looking around everywhere and spots danger first. Or the person who goes out hunting and is hyperfocused and doesn't want to come back unless they come back with food cuz it's a dopamine rush. Now, that brain wiring works really well in that environment, but now you put it in a classroom and you tell it to listen to 8 hours of lectures that it might not be interested in, it's a mismatch between wiring and environment. And so that's why I don't think it's a disorder. When you're into something, you hyperfocus deeper than anyone else, which means if you find a career that you're into, watch out cuz you're you're going to outwork everyone without even realizing you're outworking everyone cuz you're so locked in.
