This video analysis demonstrates how poor roster construction decisions, including overpaying for underperforming players and failing to identify major league talent, can lead to organizational failure. The New York Mets' 12-game losing streak illustrates how a team with a $400 million payroll can struggle when key players like Devin Williams and Bob Basset fail to meet expectations, and how managerial decisions regarding bullpen management and player accountability directly impact team performance. The analysis emphasizes that successful roster construction requires identifying and retaining quality players while making timely adjustments when underperforming players are not meeting their contractual obligations.

🚨 Mets MELTDOWN Continues! 12th Straight Loss After Blowing 3-Run Lead本站添加:
What's going on, Mets fans? Welcome back to another Metcast pros game presented by our friends at Prize Picks. And boy, how does David Sterns feel right now? Is he going to give us the Joe Schmo, the We'll be all right. He couldn't wait to get this guy Devin Williams in the building. Could not wait. Last three outings now, 9.98 RA on the year. I mean, this guy, and we all knew it. How do you pay a guy $18 million for three years, guys? This is Shan Maniah all over again.
This guy can not identify major league talent if it smacked him in the face. By the way, everyone who's going after me for Luis Rober Jr., how did he do tonight? A couple lazy fly balls, another 0 for four. I mean, this team outside of Lindor's three-run homer, it's absolute zero. We've become a Punch and Judy team. And that's what happens when you get rid of guys like Pete Alonzo and Brandon NMO. Yeah. And I don't want to hear Juan Sto's going to be back tomorrow. It doesn't matter at this point because the Mets are one game away from being double digits out of the division. You could kiss that goodbye.
It's unbelievable this roster construction. Something that we questioned coming into this season.
Now it's reared its ugly head. How come every single time that the Mets make moves, we as fans are able to identify that they're not going TO WORK BEFORE THE Mets do. David Sterns, wake the f up.
Shawn Maniah, Frankie Monttos, Devin Williams, Luke Weaver, all failures that he's identified.
To think that Devin Williams and Sha Maniah are again on this team next year making nearly $50 million is effing absurd.
I'm sorry guys. Sterns should be fired at where this team is right now. The payroll that's on this team and he's got the built-in excuse that Juan Sodto is injured. I don't want to hear it. Devin Williams talking about how he wasn't in the right mindset last year. Oh, he's not closing. He's not in close games.
That's why he's giving it up. I mean, you knew right off the bat. Right off the bat. And what is Carlos Mendoza sitting on his freaking hands doing absolutely nothing. The guy CAN'T THROW A STRIKE AND HE'S LEAVING HIM OUT THERE.
WHY IS HE FACING FIVE HITTERS without getting pulled after three make the make safe on the bases? It doesn't make any sense.
One thing we've talked about for how long Carlos Mendoza has no clue how to handle a bullpen and once again today it rears its ugly face. We all knew Dan after the first batter Williams didn't have it. Then he walks the second guy.
Then he walks the THIRD GUY. WHAT IS MENDOZA waiting for?
It blows my mind how incompetent two people could be. David Sterns, Dan, he couldn't wait to pay this guy.
Could not wait. The fact that this guy is going to be on this team the next two years, making $18 million a year is a fiverable offense. Sha Maniah, Frankie Montage, just add Deon Williams to the longest road of free agents that David Sterns has given money to that are going to contribute zero to this team. You couldn't wait to get rid of the big commodity. We know what Allonzo is. We know what NMO is. What? You go and get a Marcus Simeon Boba. By the way, can you FEEL THE FREAKING BALL AT third base?
How come nobody talks about it? NOBODY TALKS ABOUT IT. BASHETT'S FIELDING THE FORCE OUT AT THIRD AS IF HE'S GOT TO TAG the runner. You got to put your right foot on the bag and reach like a first baseman. HE'S GOT HIS WRONG FOOT ON third base. This is ABC CRAP, DAN. HOW IS HE FIELDING THE BALL AT THIRD BASE WITH HIS LEFT FOOT ON THE BED? THAT IS ABC. I learned that literally. I teach my girls who are 11 years OLD WHO PLAY TRAVEL BALL. THEY WILL feel the freaking BALL THE RIGHT WAY. THAT WAS THE GAME RIGHT THERE. Mark Vientos made the RIGHT PLAY. THAT SHOULD have been an out.
Another reason. Run prevention. My ass.
You have guys playing OUT OF POSITION ALL OVER THE PLACE.
Go ahead, Dan.
>> No. Yeah. Listen, Ray, it's justified.
Um, this team is not good. This team makes you sick. this team makes you not want to watch Mets baseball anymore.
Especially on a day when Nolan Mlan was great again. You know, we saw how good he was and then Devin Williams just is not what we thought. Again, it's early in the season with a pitcher. It's not early in the season for the Mets, right?
We could pick apart guys. We could look at Mlan. We could look at Williams.
Lindor, right? I think he's getting in the right direction. Nice three-run home run today. But overall, this team I it's it's questioning. It's perplexing. I don't I don't know what it is. And people say, "How can you not fire Mendoza after this?" Because of everything Ray just said, these players not making plays, right? Devin Williams not walking batters, not controlling the strike zone. That that's very concerning. And I do look to David Sterns. I look to him. I I kind of leap over Mendoza and I guess that blame kind of falls on deaf ears because that's really where Cohen has to step in and wake up. And I think Cohen's kind of making enough money on the Mets where he he he's kind of checked out in that regard if you want the truth. And that's source-based info as well. People have spoken to Steve Cohen kind of get that feeling too. Especially in the offseason we hearing that, right? that David Sterns is in full control and all of the moves that you see are done by David Sterns on nights like this when I we all feel like crap. We all want to scream because it does feel like the season is over pretty quickly. It's not there yet as we're all well aware, but it it does feel like it's getting close. On nights like this, I think about Pete Alonzo. I do I become a homer again. I think about Brandon NMO. Think about Jeff McNeel. I think about even Jacob Deg Grom, right?
all the years. Like it's just you want to keep these core players and for for reasons like this because you never know season to season how things look. I guarantee you right now if the Mets had Brandon NMO instead of Marcus Simeon, it would it would look a lot different, right? I think we're all kind of in that boat. It was a tough trade in the moment for that, but you get out of the two years of Brandon NMO's deal, which was encouraging at the time. But looking across the board, I get Petonzo's not in anything special. Certainly Jorge Palano is not anything special, but the overall feel of the Mets, you don't have Jeff McNeel up there that gives you those good at bats, even if it's at the bottom of the order. This team is lacking and it it's very concerning and how does it end? When does it end? Juan Sto's back tomorrow, right? So, you want the truth right here on Metcast, right? It's boiled down to this. You got to win these next two games with Juan Sto back or they might pull the trigger on Carlos Mendoza. Would I? No. I would take it till 16. I told you guys it's six straight losses. We rattle off 10.
Mendoza that that seat's too hot at that point, right? But now if you now that Sodto's back in the mix, I get you can't all rely on him. And Ray, you and I have spoken. He's probably going to be dhing a lot. you you kind of have to get it going very very soon. The fans were just booing.
Shout out Austin Warren real quick. I know he'll get lost in the scuffle tonight, but showed up Devin Williams in a way. He didn't mean to, but he comes in the game and gets a strikeout.
Everybody kind of sarcastically chanting his name. Um, this is what we've come to. It's 2010 New York Mets baseball all over again.
Dude, I'm actually like And Dan, you've been frozen on my screen for a minute.
If you want to back out and come back in.
>> Have you heard me? I hope you are.
>> Yeah, I had you the whole time. Um, guys, it's it's Dan, I'll tell you this. I see you're good now. There might have been five or six thousand people there tonight. That place was a ghost town. Steve Cohen yelling at fans to come to the game and support this team. Wait until tomorrow night when Nolan McClean's not pitching.
I mean, you're going to start to see the stands look like Miami. That's what you're looking at right now. Like, I cannot believe what this team's and it's like status quo. They're so scared of change that they will not do anything about it. Carlos Mendoza is going to sit here postgame today and say, "Well, you know, we need to be better. Guys need to perform better." I mean, think about it, Dan. outside of the Lindor three-run homer. Nobody did anything again. The Twins have one of the worst bullpens in in Major League Baseball. Came into the DAY WITH AN ERRA OF ALMOST SIX. HOW MANY TIMES ARE WE GOING TO SAY THIS?
>> The Cubs, their starter has an eight and a half RA. He shuts us down. Guys are just going through the motions. Guys are getting paid. No, nothing's changing.
Like, what's the big change going to happen? Start sitting some of these veterans. You know what, Rober? If you're not going to hit, we're going to call somebody up that will. You know what, Bette? If you're not going to learn to field third base the right way, we're going to put someone I don't care how much these guys are making because there's zero excitement. Who on this team right now excites you, Dan.
Literally nobody. Okay, Lindor's got a big home run and right away you got Bar Stool Sports making fun of our Mets right away. Like you knew it was going to happen. It's just absurd where things have gotten right now. How many guys in this lineup are hitting around 200?
Brett Batty got a hit and nobody expected it. But again, he's swinging at balls that are in the dirt still. He got lucky on a hanger. I mean, that's where we're at right now. Carson Benj looks like he might start to come around, but even him, if he can't hit right now, the Mets cannot afford to lose any games.
And for those fans that are out there, it's so funny how that works. I would say about five days ago, Dan, if I in chat, if I were to show you guys my direct messages over on Facebook, over on X or over on Instagram about Rey, you're overreacting. You have no clue what you're talking about. It is early.
It's amazing how quiet those people have gotten. The hypocrites of Mets fans, like, we all know, we all know a lot of them. They all like to troll us, but we were right because this is a continuation of what happened last year.
And for every single Mets fan that comments on my stuff saying, "Well, Ray, it's only 18 games. It's only 19 games.
It's only 20 games. We can't fire Mendoza." We all love to forget her. Not all because a lot of us live in reality.
I know a lot of you guys are here right now. That's why you're here because I will not tow a company line. I never plan on working for SNY. I never plan on working in MLB. And that's why we're the podcast that will tell you how it is or at least give you our honest opinions.
I'm not sugarcoating anything. But for the fans out there that say, "Ray, it's too early to fire Mendoza." As if we didn't have a mega collapse last year, 20 plus games over 500 to missing out on the f final wild card. We fire every single coach known to man, Dan. And except for the guy who ACTUALLY MAKES THE CALLS because I you know why they didn't do it? because I realized it in my head. David Sterns wants a builtin scapegoat. If he fires Mendoza, now we have to look at David Sterns and the talent. We want Simeon to turn the clock back three years. Robera to turn the clock back three years. We need Palano to replace Pete. We need Palano to all of a sudden magically not get hurt as if he wasn't hurt the last two straight years. Alvarez to stay healthy.
Peterson, who had an epic meltdown in the second half of last year, not meltdown this year. Kodi Sangle, who had another epic meltdown in the second half last year, not meltdown this year. Shawn Mania, the big money guy, $25 million a year. By the way, for anybody who's curious, he'll be on this team next year making $25 million. And Frankie Montage, 17.5 million. Find me the big major league decisions that David Sterns has made that has worked out. And don't you dare, as Met fans, tell me it's Juan Sodto, cuz we all know who made that signing. We all know what that is. That is the most obvious thing on the entire planet. Outside of one move, what move has David Sterns done that you're like, "Wow, he identified this major league talent." I'm not talking minor leagues.
I'm not talking about McClean coming up.
You want to give him credit for that?
Fine. You got McClean and you have uh Juan Sodto. Everything else has turned to crap. Ryan Helysey, Gregory Sodto, the guy from the Giants. Now Devin Williams, three years $18 million a year. Luke Weaver got a two-year mega contract. David Peterson's a free agent.
Even Peralta's got almost a fiveyear rate. Dan, let's not act as if he's been great for this team. like every single thing he has not identified one overachiever on this major league roster that was major league talent that was brought in and this >> you're not you're not going to like the ones that that he did. Um Luis Torren, right? He got him for 100,000. Pretty good backup catcher.
>> Oh, we're going for backup catchers.
>> I'm not saying these are stars, right?
You asked. I'm not here to defend Sterns either. I'm just I want to clear the clear the room because I know there's people probably thinking too like I mean again Tyrone Taylor the these guys that Tobias Meyers right it wasn't Adrien Hower was the highlight of that deal not Tyrone Taylor um it was obviously Freddy Peralta not Tobias Meyers but it's those little wins here and there you know I I agree with your point and you're right overall the heat is going to be on Sterns too if this team does not make the playoffs if this team continues on the pace that they're at. I'll send out a tweet when I it's it's Ray, it's probably at a 50 and um 112 type pace at this point for the Mets in terms of win loss records. So, you're really getting into 1962 type territory.
I don't I don't think it'll be that, but this is not encouraging. Nobody's encouraged. If you hear anybody saying positive stuff, usually I try to do that and I'm going to try to, you know, want Juan Sto back tomorrow and all that, but that's why the clock is really now hit midnight or really hit 11:00 on the New York Mets. It's going to hit midnight soon. Um, if Sodto comes back and I I'll give him a grace period, right? We'll see what happens because that alone will be a decision, right? Do you send Batty down when you walk the hell out of him, Dan? We don't know what's going to happen. Sto tomorrow is going to go he's going to go one for four with two walks.
That's what's going to happen. Why would you pitch to him when no one else in his line?
>> You got to you got to prove that too. I mean I get that point. People do that to Aaron Judge when he gets on the tears that he gets to but Aaron Judge has to prove that he's on those tears, right?
Like to begin the year when he's back. I mean people are going to, you know, stood putting together a good season.
But um I don't know. I I want to see how he looks and who do they call up when he comes down. want to see Mauricio back.
The Mets last win, when you look back at it, was when April 7th, Ronnie Mauricio gets called up and then he gets the walk-off and then gets sent down, right?
We've seen that before obviously with Brett Batty homering off Zack Wheeler and um Alvarez and all this stuff.
Vientos of course. Um so it's it's Ray.
I don't I don't know what to make of David Sterns anymore. I don't I like I I like him as a GM. I think he's he puts this >> I like him as a scout. That's what he is. He's a scout.
>> He can't make major league moves. How many How many bullpen guys did we go through last year? How many times was Richard Loveady in and out of that bullpen? He decided he was going to trade prospects for Helsley. He was going to trade prospects for the reliever in San Francisco. He keeps scaping my name. He decided he was going to trade prospects for Cedric Mullins and also, you know, Gregory Sodto. And he's going to trade prospects for Luis Rober Jr. I mean, think about it, Dan.
He decided, I'm not only going to trade prospects for Rober Jr., we're going to pay him $20 million this year. And you wonder why guys like Kyle Tucker can't wait to bid the Mets up and get the hell out of town because these people are not naive. It's very frustrating where we're at. But I want to get to a lot of your guys' comments. But first, we got to get to our sponsor, our friends at Prize Picks. And guys, you know what I did last night? And I told you guys on my other video, I went with the New York Knicks and I hit at the second half.
That's how good it was. Jaylen Brunson and McCullum over on the over and I also had Josh Hart on the over on rebounds and points. I knew it was going to happen. And you guys can get involved, too. If you want to make your lineup anywhere from two to six players, code HMA, it's in the description below. You get $50 on your first $5 lineup. So, all you got to do is deposit five bucks. Use code HMA, play a lineup, and you'll get $50 in promo credit right off the bat.
It's something that I did, and it's something that I enjoy doing. Typically, I like going along with our New York Mets, but I will say this, it is very frustrating. I'm going to be smashing the under. I'll tell you one player that you automatically got to take the uh the more. It's going to be on Wanoto bases because they're going to walk him, walk him, and walk him some more. You could bet on that. And that's where I'm at.
But I want to give a thank you to our friends over at Prize Picks. They help support the show. Guys, if you're watching right now and you agree with us, disagree with us, please like, subscribe, leave a comment in the chat.
We're going to get to a lot of our members chats right now because the chat is absolutely lighting up and you guys know I want to give you a voice here as believe it or not, a lot of people do listen to this show whether or not they're involved with the Mets or not.
some of our writers and uh let's just say it's funny how and I'm not going to name any names, but some of the writers that we've had on the show have always told me, "Ray, you need to calm down.
This team isn't as bad as they're playing. Give me a break. I don't get paid. We don't Dan, this is not our full-time job. That's what I always tell people. A lot of YouTubers, a lot of the people in the media, it's their full-time job to cover the team. Respect to them. But I'm going to give you my dead honest opinion. And I don't care if this channel went off the air tomorrow, Dan. I'll create another from zero subscribers cuz I love talking about our Mets and I'm passionate about it. It is just a brutal time to be a Mets fan. I want to say sorry on behalf of Steve Cohen, to every single season ticket holder that I know, the Miss Lisas of the world who got 20 plus% ticket increases this year. And this is the crap that they have to deal with. a team that plays uninspired and un not no fundamental baseball. I Dan, I still cannot get over the FACT BOBETTE. GO BACK and look. I CAN'T BELIEVE NOBODY SAID IT. Nobody in the booth, Gary.
Maybe they don't want to talk bad about the team. Go look at Bobett's feet. He dropped back with his left and he fields it here when you're supposed to be your right and extended to the ball. He felt HE FIELDED IT BACK. THAT SHOULD have been an out. Not saying Williams would have gotten out of it. I'm sure he still would have imploded, but it would have changed things then. It would have been first and second with one out instead of bases loaded, no outs. And then we all know what happened with Williams. I'll tell you one thing, I don't know what happened to Williams. Maybe Milwaukee will take him back, Dan. But he is not built for the high pressure situation.
And the fact he came out this last off season and said Pete Lonzo's home run screwed him up last year mentally that he was thinking about it throughout the season. You can't bring a guy in here like that. Think of how nuts that is to say, you know what, you're right. I want to know who's out. I want to know the team who was offering Devin Williams 30 million a year, 40 million for a contract, 50 million for a contract.
Hell, any of that. who was giving him two years at 20 million per year. Who I think I really believe and we watched it happen with Frankie Monttos last off season where David Sterns get such the itch I'm gonna be the smartest guy in the room and get out ahead of everybody and sign some bum and overpay him thinking my analytics are going to fix him. He did it with Frankie Montage.
Remember when that signing went down?
Everyone on MLB Network was like, "What the hell just happened?" But it was coming off the year when Severino and Mania and everybody kind of look good and they're like, "Oh, the pitching lab, by the way, throw the pitching lab to the freaking moon." Because it does crap for a guy like Devin Williams. Devin Williams cannot be the closer, Dan. And you know what sucks the most? What sucks the most is we could be winning two to one tomorrow. And your boy Carlos Mendoza, not you, Dan, but you as in fans. Your boy Carlos Mendoza is going to be like this. Bring in the air bender. Throw that nickname out, too, because that is one of the worst nicknames. If you're a guy who can't throw strikes and gets tagged every single time out there, you don't deserve to get a nickname in this town.
>> No, you don't. Unless you're Ender Sandman, you're you're Mariano Rivera, right? You're the Dark Knight. You're >> even Diaz the trumpet. He earned it.
>> Trumpets, the franchise, the the captain, you know, all these, you know, great monikers in our city, but we need good teams, right? I mean, we we need good teams and we and the Mets are looked at or were coming into this season a good team. You know, on paper, I think Sterns did all the right things.
I mean, he tested the waters with Bob Bashette. Did he eventually kind of become, you know, decent at the position? I think so. He's still kind of figuring out, but overall he's better than he was. Palano's a complete zero, right? Like across the board, you you hit it the nail on the head. Like a lot of his moves, you can't sit here and defend much longer because the team is not good. And I just did the math. 49 and 113. That is this current seven and 16 pace for the Mets right now.
Obviously, if they finish 49 and 113, um there's a lot of things wrong, but um the fact that they're digging themselves this big of a hole to even get to back to 500.
This is really a slippery slope. And I know people say, "Oh, it's I I agree with you. You can't keep saying it's early." And I I was saying that for a while, but now we're three weeks into April, right? Now it's how quickly the time kind of changes where it's going to be May and if you have Sodto back for a week from now, right? These are these little things on Metcast throughout the season. I'll kind of say these like internal thoughts and and timelines because that's what the Mets are working off of as well. If it's a week into Sodto's return and and say he looks really good, right, which we expect that say that goes well, >> he better be, >> right? And then the team around him still stinks. That's the panic button for me. You got to kind of What the heck is >> You're not hitting it yet.
>> I mean, >> what are we nine games out now?
>> It it's it's bad, right? Again, >> and there's nothing you can look to that is a positive. Nothing.
>> I have not. I But again, I I get it, but I got to see what this team looks like with Sodto back because a lot of their struggles not to defend this team. It It's indefensible. Um, this is awful.
baseball, but when Sodto's back, your best player, and things continue to be bad, then it's like, all right, what do we do? But if he comes back and he's cooking and then Robert gets going again, he has his boy back and all it's all working out like Lindor continues to give you something, then this team, you could start to take a breath and maybe here come the Mets and it it could be this amazing comeback story that we're all hoping. But obviously there's a lot of people, you know, here tonight and we appreciate obviously a lot of you guys in here and make sure to like and subscribe if you're new. But we usually try to make sure that this team is on the right track and the people from the outside world love to add fuel to when the Mets are not doing well. So we got to continue to, you know, think positive. Ray, I know it's tough to think positive right now.
>> Right, Dan? You're barking up the wrong tree here. I know. Look, I know. Look, I respect those fired.
>> Maybe you'll end up being right. Maybe we'll have a historical run. Maybe Devin Williams will refind it. Maybe Lindor will start to hit more consistently.
Maybe Bette will not be a singles guy. I mean, he's still hitting 200. Maybe Rober will actually play in back-to-back games. Maybe Palano will be healthy.
Maybe Alvarez won't get hurt. Maybe Sangelo will actually pitch more than three innings. Maybe Peterson will turn it around. Maybe he'll go more than two and two/3. Maybe, you know, Luke Weaver won't give it up. I'm not saying that to be decisive towards you, Dan. I'm just saying these are the things that are going through my head. I'm looking for positives. I want to be I'll tell you guys this, too.
>> When the Mets suck, our views go up. I would rather have zero freaking views and be able to take my daughter to a game. And my wife's actually making fun of me. That's what That's what drives me nuts. She goes, "You're going to teach your kids to be losers. teach them to be Yankee fans. And I said, "You can get the hell out of my house." But I'm like, I want to be able to say, "You know what, Hunt? I'm gonna take the I'm gonna take my two girls. We're gonna go to the Mets game today and not do a podcast at all and have zero views and actually enjoy a baseball game." There's nothing better than going to a game, getting a hot dog, a Diet Coke, and watching my little girl scream, "Let's go Mets." But I'm not going to subject her to that right now. I can't. I can only imagine what is being said at at these ball games. Dan, we were there last year. We watched Jonah Tong get absolutely lit up. I'm telling you, the fans that are actually there, I could only imagine.
I I really could think about it. David Sterns is in Chicago and they're laughing at, you know, there's some guy pregame yelling at David Sterns telling the fire Mendoza. Oh, you're kidding me, right? One guy. Imagine what it sounds like right now. I can only imagine.
We're going to get to some of your guys' comments. Guys, remember this. The poll was up. One like equals one fire Carlos Mendoza. And I'll tell you why. You may not think that firing Mendoza is going to change anything. And you might be right, but the shield, the cloak is gone. Then, right now, that is David Stern's only bullet he's got left in the chamber. Diaz is gone. He got rid of Pete. He got rid of NMO. He brought up his prospects. He couldn't wait. He couldn't wait to put Carson Benj in the outfield. And clearly he's not ready, Dan. I'm with you. He's clearly not ready. We're about at that month. I said we got to give him about a month. I think we've been fair with that. It's time to send him down. Let him get better down there. There's guys that are performing. Shout out to Ryan Clifford, the Mets first base prospect who they trade in the Justin Berlander trade. 6 for 10, Grand Salami, three home runs in his last 10 at bats. Maybe you start to look at him. He's what, 22, 23 years old this year. Anything. But David Sterns got rid of every person he didn't want here. Brought in all of his guys. And the only one who's standing in the way of change is Carlos Mendoza. It's the only thing he could tell Steve Cohen is maybe the manager's not getting it through. Once Mendoza is gone, the the seat gets very hot for Stern. And hey, highest paid exe, you had to be the highest paid executive. Grew up a Mets fan. Wanted to be here. Wanted to perform. Mets fans couldn't wait to run Billy Eper out. Couldn't wait to run Brody Van Wagon out. Couldn't wait to run Sandy Alderson out. All to get this guy. He's supposed to be the prize pick of executives. Put up or shut up. And we're going to go to that segment right now. Dan, what do we always say? Put up or shut up. Shout out to our boy Frank Fleming.
>> Official. The next season is over.
>> It is time for David Sterns to put up or shut the f up. I am so sick of the way this team You know what it is, Dan?
There's zero heart. Oh, ground out. Put my gloves down. Okay, ground out. Put my gloves down. Can't field how many outs there are. We all forget this is another mental mistake that potentially causes the game by Bob Bashette not knowing to put his right foot on the effing bag at third base.
Go ahead, Dan. I'll get to the comments.
>> I think you're right. I I have to be the same for me too, Rey. Um, I'm also just looking at Sodto, right? I I I know it's a lot of pressure and I know I keep going back to him, but it's the offensive problem that we're dealing with with the Mets right now. Um, so it's concerning. I I I think he both of them, Bett needs to be better, but definitely Sterns. I mean, this team, the way it was constructed, there is so many questions going into the year, and all the Mets had to do, sorry, my contract taxs are drying up. All the Mets had to do, >> Dan was crying before he got, that's why he was late, >> was just literally win a couple of games, and they did, to their credit, they were three- one to begin the year.
Then they got to seven and four, and everything looks like it's going up, and then they lose now 12 straight, and we're sitting here tonight at 7 and 16.
Um, this is this is not good. Nobody here is defending the Mets, but can you guys give me until May in in the chat?
Just see where we are. We could still very well be having the same conversations and likely do. Um, but that's just the way I want to see it because if if Sodto comes back, and I can't say this enough, he comes back, right, and he's hitting and the rest of the team isn't, that's when it's like cuz we haven't seen anything for a month from this guy. So, we have no idea what to really base anything off of. Like, we had some good games this year. The Mets were doing well with Juan Sto, right?
So, I I I get when I get up on the mic and say these things, people are like, "You're an idiot. You don't know what you're talking about." Well, I probably don't. This team could be awful, right?
I'm well aware of that, too. But >> Juan Sto is not an ordinary player and and he he's infectious to his teammates.
So, I'm excited to see how he looks starting tomorrow.
>> Bro, 12 losses in a row.
>> It's ridiculous.
>> Has anybody ever made the playoffs?
>> No.
That's why you got to listen. This is the >> Give me till May. I'm like, that's nine more days. That's That means 20 in a row and you're out.
>> Let's be Let's be that first team because let's look at the division, too.
The Braves. Yeah, they're leading the way, but are the Braves this team that could be Yeah. No, they're inf they're definitely a team that is not infallible, right? They can be beat. And the Phillies, same thing. Not worried about the Marlins. They've come back down to earth in a lot of respects.
Nobody looks at the Nationals, right?
So, let's just take a deep breath. Like, yes, this team is awful and needs to be better and is ridiculous. And the amount of money you pay to watch these games, it's it's brutal. But let's be honest, is it's not over, right? I think we always tend to look at these things. It's like a golf tournament, right? Oh, it's not over after Thursday. It's not over after Friday. Um, and the Knicks like like I listen, you run out of words too with a lot of this stuff because we sit here and night after night we keep pushing the same thing. They got to win and Mendoza and his seat could be hot and eventually they're going to pull the trigger, right? I think it could be if they lose these next two and get swept by the Twins, he's gone. I think that to be true because you can't sit and let this keep boiling.
Um, so we'll see. When does Cohen wake up? Forget Sterns. Like for me, it kind of goes to Cohen. When does he snap out of this and say, "Steve, I mean, David, this team's a joke. Like, what are you doing?"
>> I'm I'm I'm I can't get into too much. I know those conversations are having happening. I'm sure 100% better.
>> Those conversations are happening.
>> They better be.
>> And I'll tell you guys this. I know a lot of people are commenting all over the place. Unless you're a subscriber on Facebook, go to YouTube. It's We don't read comments from X. Sorry. We actually very rarely even stream to X anymore.
But if you want to get involved in the conversation, head over to YouTube. And as you guys will see, I get to every single one of our members comments.
Maybe not all of their comments, but every single member gets involved. So, if you want to be guaranteed to have your voice heard live on our stream or afterwards or I chat it up with you guys, become a member in the description below. It's only two bucks a month, but it helps us filter out the people who really want to get engaged. And also, I'm trying to work on getting a couple of guests to come on maybe to talk about this team because maybe some of you guys are sick of the way that I am with this team. I'm just so down in the dumps with this right now. And you know what's wild? I'll never forget. They're like, "Oh, Steve Cohen lost like $200 million with this team last year." I could only imagine what it is right now. Because you may say, "Well, the tickets, Ray, are sold. The tickets are already sold."
Very easy to say that and I understand that. But people aren't going for parking concession. Patty Leafa $30 steak. I'm not getting one for a long time.
Neither is Dan. I mean, maybe Dan because Dan obviously he goes there for work. It's a different thing. But guys, this is like we just said coming home you had to take six of nine. Like this was the winnable game. You're up three zero. Dan, can you address that really quick? 300.
I knew right away Nolan was gassed. You saw it started hanging stuff. His fast ball was going over the middle right then and there. you got to get your bullpen up and moving. But he let he let him get the hard hit, the hard hit, the walks, the hard hit. And I'm like, what is going on right now? And then Mendoza comes out too late. Like after he gave up two runs, he should have been out of there.
>> Absolutely.
>> Right when he gave up the double >> where Carlos Mendoza has no idea how to operate a bullpen. And guys, a first time manager, too.
There are some of those questions.
Obviously, the one in the Cubs series, he got absolutely flamed for. You had Cole Wright on their post game saying Carlos Mendoza has to up update his LinkedIn. That that I mean, you're getting shots from across the the board here on this Mets team. And yeah, Mendoza like just forgetting that that out doesn't matter, right? Like those are things that the team they say they're prepared, right? You heard Lindor the other day, Mendoza's our guy.
We feel prepared every day.
>> Maybe. I mean, is is Lindor supposed to say that? Yes. But it felt like when you were listening to it live and watching it live, he went out of his way to make sure that was known. Like Jaylen Brunson at the end of last season, I was sitting six feet away from him in Indiana when the reporter asked him, "Do you think Tom Dibido, now that you guys have fallen short, is at risk of losing his job?" And he basically laughed off the question and walked out of the room.
Little bit of similar vibes there from Francisco Lindor and defending his manager. But that again grows stale. A lot of what we say, the positivity, the all of it, it it grows very stale very quick because you're in a market like New York where people just want to people are tired enough, right? You got to win and it's it's just ridiculous.
Tonight was a really good kind of showing by the fans that were there letting the Mets hear it. The booze were loud.
>> I thought they're chanting MVP chance after he throws a strike. Oh my gosh.
>> Yeah. Good on those people that got out there.
>> It's hysterical. You It's almost like a It's almost like a movie.
>> Like the like this needs to be studied what's happening this year. They get they lose to mediocre to bad teams every single night. And guys, hey, let me shout out something as well.
How about Robera Jr.? Is he going to hit 38 home runs again?
>> No, not not on this projection.
>> We gonna, you know what I mean? we're gonna do this like >> well Jon so I mean you know but yes I mean his he'll probably hit 20 you know and that's probably even stretching it at this I mean it's tough nobody's going to have good numbers right now for the Mets like nobody as as great as you know Sodto is even behind the eightball he hasn't played as much like there's going to be adjustment across the board that you want to see but you know I I I I I look to Lindor because you have to look to your best players during this time.
It's nice to see the home run today. I think we all can kind of sit there and say Lindor, I think over his past 12 games, has given you over an 830 ops.
Let's >> I'm not complaining at Lindor anymore. I real Look, look, he's not he's never going to be the leader we want him to be. No, >> the clubhouse stuff is a little overblown between him and Sodo. At the end of the day, I don't care.
>> It's the Mandani curse. Let's call it what it is. Ever since Manny hugged Mr. and Mrs. met. This team is now one.
>> Well, that's it. You know, I'm not going to name any names, but I got contacted by uh a specific news outlet for an interview and they were asking me about the whole Mam Donnie coming in the club.
I said, "I don't care. Hit the effing pool, >> right?
>> I don't care." I mean, Jesus reincarnated Dan could come in or the living God, of course, COULD COME INTO THE LOCKER ROOM. I DON'T CARE. HIT THE BALL. THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT.
And for those of you guys who don't know, we are a Christian faith-based Mets podcast. Always love to sneak that in there every once in a while. I don't care. I don't care if it's Trump, Manni, Delasia. I don't care. Their job is to show up to the ballpark and hit the ball. A guy's on second. You move them over. Like, hello. Shout out to the Mets. SIMEON'S FINALLY GETTING HIT. SO, WHAT do they do? Let's screw with him and throw him at the top of the lineup.
like it. Nothing makes sense what they're doing.
>> They can't just ever leave anything alone.
>> We got to get some of these comments. We have a million of them. Guys, again, if you want to be locked in again involved in the conversation, become a member.
The link is in the description below, >> but we're going to start it out with uh Troy. I don't know if I'm uh pronouncing that right. Excuse me if I am not, but a super chat over on YouTube. Been a Mets fan since 1977. This may be the worst team worse than 92. Well, I'll tell you this. 92 didn't have a $400 million payroll. 92 didn't have, you know, for lack of a better term, first team all pros all over the place. Lindor Sodto. I mean, the the fact that Nolan Mlan is probably our best starter as a rookie this year with all of this money, Dan.
How many guys that are currently starting on the Mets would be top of the lineup guys everywhere else? Bentos, Batty, Benge, Simeon, Alvarez, even Rober.
I mean, he's questionable at this point, guys. Take away two games in Pittsburgh.
He's been terrible. He had what, five hits in two games in Pittsburgh. But I appreciate the super chat. Thanks so much for that. Uh, it means a lot. We're going to get to some of our members and also some of your guys comments that sneak. And we'll start off with Jim. Jim says, "I don't care what anybody else says about being a uh being a lot of baseball. There is a lot of baseball left. At some point they'll win again, but they are such a dysfunctional mess.
The worst team money can buy the sequel.
Couldn't have put it better myself, Dan.
I mean, that's Yeah, they are going to win some games, but at what point? I mean, the Braves are running away, the wild cards running away, and you're looking for more than there's got to be more than one positive. You have McClean and Lindor, I guess. Outside of that, who are you looking at right now that you're like, "Oh, they're hot. They're overperforming my expectations on the year right now. Everybody's under.
>> No, there's there's nobody there.
There's nobody to name and and that's the problem. And we're going to have to look to probably prospects and the Mets are going to have to probably call up these guys sooner than they would have liked. I mean, we're getting Christian Scott coming up, which is exciting. We talked about that and it ended up happening. So, that's cool. But when does Clifford come up, right? when does AJ Ewing, Nick Morbido, because I think these guys are getting close and you moved on from Drew Gilbert, you moved on from guys like that. So, um, you know, Carson Benj the one of the questions will be when Juan Sto is back, who are they sending down? Because if they're serious about winning these games or if they're taking the long path, they'll probably do one of two things. they'll send Batty down like that'll be the we want to kind of get this right. Right. I think that's more the long-term play with Brett Batty. The shorter term we want to win now is sending Carson Benj down and then that'll cause you know an uproar too because people are going to say oh I think you know you need some youth on this team. So um you know we'll see.
>> I'll tell you this. I got asked earlier today. Is it worse being a Jeff Bay or a Mets fan? For anybody who doesn't know, we also do Jets Giants fan, baby.
>> We're doing a big event at you stadium.
I got to drive all the way up to what?
Westchester on Thursday with my partner Pat over there.
>> It is way worse being a Mets fan cuz the Jets I know are going to suck. I've never had expectations. What are we going on here? 16 with no playoffs.
They're going to suck next year. So I watch for player development. I'm not watching because I expect anything. I watch the Mets because we're supposed to be good. Like, think about Dan, what you're talking about right now. You are talking about we're going to go through prospects. There's a $400 million payroll and we're talking prospects.
Think about that. This is one of the If the Mets miss the playoffs again this year, which they're, you know, well on their way to do, well on their way to do, How does David Sterns keep his job? He's going to spend $800 million nearly $800 million on payroll in two years and miss the playoffs. You're losing to a team like the Reds who have what a 70 or whatever 90 to $110 million payroll.
You're spending 800 over two years.
They're spending two and you're and you can't beat them.
It's crazy, man. It really is. It's not good, Ray. This It's not good. People are getting lazy. You could, you know, you see it. Um, they got to win soon. I don't know. You guys will hear me snap eventually. Like the people that, you know, I get it.
Like there's there was there's a ticket.
>> Jody said she'll give you to How sweet of Jodie.
>> Thank See, >> you know you're with me. Stop playing pretend.
>> Thank you.
Thank you.
We're going to get some more of the comments. There's literally 480 something comments, so I'm going to try to get as many as I can, especially of our members. Goomba, what's going on, my man? Checking in. Know you were DMing me over there. Can't wait for the laughter.
Stern's girlfriend blows another one.
Yep. Can't make it up. Burns says, "Don't worry, guys. We'll win one one day before we die. I'm not sold. What if the Mets go winless the rest of the year and there's a, you know, no baseball next year? But anyways, you know, Matteline checks in. Fire Sterns now, please. I will say this. Sterns could I really think this Dan if the Mets somehow and I still refuse to believe this is what's going to happen and it's me being delusional. I get it. I'm not naive. But if the Mets are under 500 after this year, I think Cohen's going to clean house.
I really do. There's no way this team wins 75 games and Cohen's going to lose what, $30 plus million dollars this year. Imagine that phone call. Imagine right now because I know they go out now. I had it a couple weeks ago.
Somebody calling me asked me out a ticket package. So, let me see how the team's doing now. I just blocked the number.
>> Oh, I'm dead. Yeah, it's the point you got to get to, Ray. Don't you don't want to call me. It's >> Well, yeah. Dan Dan would make a great He'd be like, "Yeah, but look at the positives."
>> No, look at the fact that again, this this team is not playing well. I I don't know what the reason is.
Is it something in the clubhouse, right?
Is it Francisco Lindor doesn't get along with Marcus Simeon and they had a who cares?
>> You know, I don't know. I Who cares is right. That's number one.
>> No, I'm not like to your point, but I'm saying like we've we've heard this narrative. We heard it with Javier Bayz coming here giving the thumbs down. It's it's always Jeff McNeel and Lindor punching each other in the face. Then you have Lindor not paying his debts to get the guy a car which he promised.
Then you bring in Sodto. Now Sodto and him have a little bit of a I don't care.
You ever hear the saying winning cures all you don't hear about in hockey. You don't hear about this in other sports.
At the end of the day, you just gota when you're up there, Dan, I keep hearing about team chemistry, right?
It's something I always hear about there at the plate. It's you and the pitcher and you're Lindor. You think he's sitting there going, I wonder what Sodto's saying about me in the dugout. I DON'T THINK THAT'S HAPPENING.
>> NO, NO, that's not what it is. But it's more like how do you feel after a game? You know, your your teammates, do they come up to you? Do they I don't It's the little things that I think the clubhouse, the culture, the can I relax? Do I always feel like I'm being watched? I think that's the kind of things that can set people off the wrong way over time over a 162 game season. You're with these people more than your families, right?
So, I think a lot of it does tend to be, you know, some of the things that goes on outside of it, which I do think with this group of players, why are they not clicking on the field? Is it something that's happening off of the field?
That's why I bring up the clubhouse stuff. On the field, they need to be better. We do a great job. That's kind of our number one priority to cover the games and talk about that stuff, too.
But it's the human element. We're humans. We understand other humans, too.
And I I don't I I think it could be a factor. Um does it matter? Does it even Who cares, right? Who really cares? Win games, right? Like that is that is what matters, Ray. So I tomorrow. That's the beauty of baseball.
>> If you want to go sit behind home plate, then you could probably get it for 20 bucks.
>> We'll see what happens uh tomorrow. And >> and look, I know a lot of people are saying, "Ray, you can't go to G." I go to the games. I like covering the Mets.
I like bringing you guys content sometimes behind the scenes stuff. I wanted to do, >> you know, we'll see what happens. But we got I got all this fancy equipment here and I wanted to do a live with Dan from City Field, a pregame thing. We'll let you guys know what games we're going to go to, talk about the season, maybe get a guest on while we're there, one of the writers that we deal with. Maybe I'll have special guest Dan Vartell's on live. I don't know, but it'll be just fun to hang out, meet a lot of you guys, but at this point, I'm like, screw everybody. No, I'm just kidding. I'm like, I just It's hard for me right now to want to go to games, especially when it's 50 degrees out. I'm one of those guys, Dan, it could be 30 degrees out. I will go. I will bundle up. I will not do it for this team. And I'm so Look, it was cold today. So, the people that are out there complaining, oh, well, the offense didn't stop the Twins from scoring five runs. The second man started feeling tired, I knew. Dan, what did I text you? We were up 3-1 and I said, "We're gonna blow this effing game." Did I not?
>> You did.
>> I said, "We're gonna I feel it. You We're at the point where and I'll never forget a few years ago, we won 101 games. Every game I felt we were in it.
We could be down five nothing. It didn't matter. We had a shot to come back. I felt it. I knew no game, no lead was too far to surpass us, not coming back. I knew we always had a shot. These games, you feel it. You feel it slipping away.
You feel the air gets sucked out of the stadium even though there was nobody there, so there really was no air, but you just felt it. Everybody's starving to score. Lindor scores. And I thought it right then and there. I told somebody I'm hanging out with my wife. That is the only run we're going to score. I know it. The only We're going to have to win this game 3-2. You knew it. You knew. You and I both knew. Everybody who's watching this, we're all plugged in, right? We're all watching. We all knew that that was the only runs we were going to get all game long.
Uncompetitive at bat after uncompetitive at bat. It's just the same thing over and over again. I mean, damn, let's be real. Bobette right now and I understand it's only April 21st. You want to say what are we what is this game 20? What are we in right now?
>> 207 + 6 23.
>> Game 23.
>> Crazy. Yeah.
>> So what is that? Uh going up. We're about to come once uh uh Okay. So we're like >> 24th game tomorrow.
>> 14% through the season.
Bobette has showed zero doubt.
>> Zero.
>> He He really hasn't. Right. And he needs to be better. He's the one guy from an offensive perspective. We were going into the season worrying about his defense. We weren't even thinking about his offense because we knew what kind of hitter he was. You're right. He's been he's been I don't even know what what the words are. He needs to be better. Um so we'll see. It's happening across the board though, guys. Like Edwin Diaz just has loose bodies in his elbow and and he's going down and you know the Dodger fans signed him three years 69 million.
They're kind of flipping out. So listen, >> at any point would you move on from the hitting coach to try to spark this team?
If you're not going to fire Mendoza?
>> No, I think that was kind of a last year thing with the Chavez stuff. It immediately goes on Mendoza.
>> I seen I saw that question over on X uh proposed. That's why I was throwing that out there. But let's keep it going with some of these comments.
>> Bob checks in. One of our subscribers over on Facebook. Yankees fan warned us.
I warned you. We all knew it. We all Look, at the end of the day, I don't know whether or not to trust this, Dan.
Maybe you have better insight than I do working for the post. I am not sold that Sterns didn't have some type of inkling Diaz was gone and that's why he panicked and way overpaid for Williams. I don't see the Mets saying Devin Williams as a setup guy is going to be worth 18 million bucks a year for three years.
Find that hard to believe.
Well, we knew at the time, right, they were still willing to go after Edwin Diaz and make him the closer and have that elite setup of Devin Williams and Edwin Diaz. Um, but clearly that that fell through and I don't I I don't know why, you know, they didn't go out and still pursue a Mason Miller, which was still talks that were happening and we were following those and nothing ever came of it. So, I don't I don't know where the Mets turn. Again, Trevor McIll would have been a nice tack on instead of Tobias Myers, but probably would have cost you Jonah Tong, right? Instead of Brandon Spro or something like that. So, I I have no idea how this stuff breaks down, but yeah, you gota What is the next move for the Mets, right? Because at this point, you're going to be selling at the deadline. We don't want to talk about that just yet, but even if you wanted to put yourself in contention and make that big home run move, a you're not in the position to do it, but say you still did. You trade all these guys for Scooble.
Then what? Like you have all the money, you buy Scooble, and then this team is is just a pile of crap with TKO on top.
Like it's >> then he swing a bat at this point. Yeah. Like it's crazy, right? The issue is Dan, right now, right now, you know, as of right now, I don't think Rober Jr. would be back next year. We don't have a right fielder. Our second baseman is about to collect social security and make $26 million a year the next two years. This roster is so poorly constructed.
Palano, nobody knows when he's going to be healthy. He wasn't healthy the last two years and magically David Stern says he'll be healthy this year. I don't understand. But I want to get to one comment. Bobby Bonia's son, who I'm very good friends with, uh Bobby Bonia Jr.
over here. Hey Ray, I told you from day the day they signed him I was totally against having Devin Williams here and all of this is on David Sterns, not Carlos Mendoza. Yes, I'm not totally sold you're wrong, but I want for anybody who missed it because a lot of people, you know, we have what well over a thousand people in here now, but at the time we didn't. So for anybody who missed it, I said Mendoza's got to go because he is the final cloak for David Sterns, the final blocker. Once Mendoza's taken out of the situation, Sterns got his whole bullpen he wanted.
He got rid of the core he wanted. He brought in his guys. He got rid of every single coach in the offseason. The only thing remaining to do is once you get rid of Mendoza, there is no more saving grace for David Sterns. It's a put up or shut up moment. And that's why I say Mendoza's got to go. And look, this team collapsed last year over Mendoza. No one wanted to fire Sterns when they were 21 games over 500 in the first half. Dan, everybody was praising Sterns, bringing in the guys that he brought in. They brought in Juan Sodto. They brought in some backend bullpen guys. Hey, Oscar Brazaban was having a great first half.
The Clay Holmes signing looked pretty damn good up front. David Peterson looked solid. You're bringing back Maniah. He pitched okay to start off.
You felt pretty good and then everything collapsed. And that when that type of collapse happens to me, that's on your manager. When I'm watching Ryan Helley come into the game to blow his fifth consecutive game and I see Mendoza going like this to call him in again. At that point, it's on the manager.
That's my opinion. There's a lot of conflicting ideas, right? I mean, there's a lot of people out there that saying Steve Cohen isn't a real Mets fan and he just used all of us to get Juan Sto here and he could get the licenses for his casinos if he proved that the Mets were going to be an investable place for the long term 15-year vision.
There's there's those conspiracy theories floating everywhere, right? I think Mendoza being fired has been this now like rolling kind of thing that is now really have life. And I think at this point any day it feels it's sad to say cuz I really like Mendoza. I do and I want him to get out of this and all the Mets have to do is win a game like just just snap this >> ju I honestly have lost the the clubhouse. I thought he lost it last year. I thought the players, the way from what I was told and kind of like with the reporting that your colleague had, Mike Puma, there were clubhouse issues. Clubhouse issues happen and gain momentum when a manager doesn't have the respect of their players. Mendoza can't walk in and say, "Hey, Jeff and Lindor, let's stop fighting here." He doesn't have that respect yet. He hasn't gained that. That's why when you're trying to win a World Series, and I'm not saying it was the right move, wrong move at the time because his first year was very successful, but it's hard when you're not a player and you've never won anywhere. Mendoza is known for being a, you know, a 20 year whatever bench manager with the Yankees. But that's really Aaron Boon's team. I feel that's why when Cohen was doing everything, his initial inkling was before getting Luis Roas was to get a guy like Carlos Belletran in here. Beltran comes in, he tells you to sit down and shut up. He's a Hall of Famer. You listen, Mendoza can't do that to the guys. And I'm not saying Mendoza's replacement would be any better. But what I'm saying is getting rid of Mendoza puts these players on notice. Once the manager's gone, your excuse for not playing is out the window. Like, we need a Terry Collins type. If you don't hit, you sit.
Like that's kind of how it's got to be.
Like think about this right now. Dan Luis Rober played today. He might play tomorrow which means he's not going to play the next day. That is nuts to me.
This team is on a 12game losing streak completely, you know, tight the titanicking right into the right into the ocean. And this guy I got to take off a day. And guys, for anybody who thinks any different, I know I got a lot of flack on this earlier on X, so I wanted to address this while we were live. I put an opinion out there and I said I feel the Mets are rushing back Juan Sto. That's just a feeling that I have. It's not based off of any medical experience, anything like that. Not claiming to be a doctor. But the reason why I said that is when I see the Mets say he's going to come back, he can't play backtoback games, he won't even be dhinging backtoback games. He's going to have to dh a lot. That tells me there's still an issue clearly because if he was coming back and healthy, he would be playing every game. The Mets right now, even though you some people want to say it's early, they can't afford to be giving away games anymore. They can't afford to be saying, "Hey, Sodto, take you know, you're going to play three games this week and sit the other four or sit the other three." Like, that's how fast this division's going to get out of control. We live in a realistic world where Juan Sooto's going to play tomorrow and then he will be sitting Thursday's game. Dan, that is crazy to me. And you know that's why watch tomorrow will not be in the lineup because they're going to want one or the other guy always in the lineup. So watch Rober get tomorrow off.
I have a little segment quick. It's not really aligned, but I just wanted to kind of throw this in there.
I think we got to be we got to be honest, right? We gota you you threw up the great conversation about Mendoza and you know his time potentially coming to an end.
Let's have that conversation. Who would be the next manager? I want everybody in the comments give one name. I have >> I know my guy and ain't anybody name >> and then we will um we will kind of all talk about these different names here tonight. For me it's Joe Gerardi. I would bring in Joe Gerardi and and take him right out of the SNY booth. Think he would fit well with this team. He has that kind of winning pedigree that you talk about, that respect, and I think Joe Gerardi would be a great manager of the New York Mets if they were to move on from Carlos Mendoz.
You know who I'd want to be? I'm looking at some of these names. Let's Wally Backman. People are You guys are nuts.
I like Wall-E, but the guy who I would want is the mechiller himself.
I want Yadier Molina, who's currently a coach in St. Louis.
He's a guy that knows how to command a pitching staff. I feel he could take Francisco Alvarez to the absolute next level. I really think the future potential leader of this team could be Alvarez under the right toutelage. Like when he first came up, remember the team rallied around him. They all loved him.
I'm about winning. I don't care what he did to us in ' 06. He is a hall of fame.
One of the best defensive catchers we've ever seen. Knows how to call a game.
Knows how to manage a game. Guys look for him to leadership. He was the captain in St. Louis. He would be my guy. And obviously I'm not naive. 90% chance that would never happen. A lot of people love to pinpoint Carlos Beltran.
I think they would go Kai Kareah. Not saying it's the right guy, but I think they would go Kai Kareah, see how the season plays out, and then address it in the offseason. But now we're finding out why David Sterns wanted um Craig Council so badly.
You're seeing it right before our faces.
But let's keep getting to some of these comments. We've been on here for well over an hour now. Guys, if you're watching, please hit those hit that thumbs up. And if it's your first time here, welcome. Consider becoming a subscriber of the channel. We do a lot of these post games. We have some great guests in the offseason. Current players we've had on. Obviously, a lot of the reporters, a lot of you guys who are here long term know the kind of show we try to bring to you guys. We are not, you know, we are self-produced here.
Everything we do is self-produced.
Clue follows up. Williams is one of the Sterns. Uh, we already read that. Jeff, one of our new one of our new members chiming in. Devin Williams has been broken since giving up the game-winning home run to Peter Alonzo. Absolutely, my friend. Totally agree. And something we talked about earlier. He admitted it this off seasonason that he thought about that during the Yankee season last year. And then, you know, David Stern decided he was going to give him a massive payday. Andre follows up another one of our members. Ray, we are past the point of focusing on Sterns and Mendoza.
Steve Cohen's ownership has turned into a failure. You cannot keep Sterns and be taken seriously as a franchise.
We'll see. You know what I would do? Oh, Dan, you're on mute. I think >> they're just ripping them.
>> You know what I would do, Dan? This is what I would do. If you want to move on from Sterns, you don't. I bring in a real general manager and you say, "Sterns, you're going to take control in all the scouting, all the minor league stuff. We're going to bring in a general manager." Because guys, we got to admit one thing. We could say he sucks at the major league roster stuff, which I totally agree. It's one of my first gripes with him. Sterns knows how to identify prospects and develop prospects. Go look what he did in Milwaukee. Look what he did with McClean. Look what he's doing with all these guys coming up. He signed Iliam Pñena, guys. If you don't know who I pa is, get used to that name. The 18-year-old out of Dominican Republic is absolutely lighting it the hell up in low a ball right now. He is going to be a special player. Mark my words. He knows what he's doing with prospects. I think Dan nailed it. You got to get a real GM in here. Somebody who's had experience. I would consider Mike Rizzo some, you know, he he's done it. He's won there. He's been a part of World Series. I would consider him 100% bringing him in for a general manager role and you know going forward with that. Danny says Mark Mark Marcus Simeon who was on a four-ame hitting streak snapped thanks to moving him to the lead off. Yeah, something we talked about earlier. Jeff follows up this roster construction needs to be studied and not in a good way. I think I actually said that earlier, believe it or not. I said a study needs to happen in regard to this roster. Dan, any comments?
>> Well, it's supposed to be flexible and it's not. And that's very concerning because a lot of that flexibility has either gotten hurt or they just stink offensively and you're not really replacing much and Batty looks awful at first. So >> yeah, it's not good.
>> We have people fighting in the comments whether or not you or I should be the next manager.
>> I couldn't be the manager because I would get into a fist fight with somebody.
>> Yeah, that's funny.
>> That's funny.
>> Ray will be the next manager.
>> We got a few more comments we're going to get. So, I'm just trying to make sure that I don't miss any of our members here. We have a bunch of them in the chat and I appreciate you guys.
>> Anyone want Mark D. Roza to be the next Mets?
>> I'm kidding. I'm kidding.
>> All right, with that Dan's fire. I said one like equals one fire. Mendoza. One like equals fire Dan.
>> No.
>> Rene checks in. What's up, Ray? Wow.
Lost for words. We had an opportunity to break the losing streak and this team blew it. Devin Williams is bad. Thank your boy David Sterns. Every year Dan, it never fails. Almost every year he jumps the gun and whoever he jumps the gun for is absolutely terrible.
>> Says 12 games lost. Huh? Yeah, tell me about it. Meline's checking in. Hope all is all you guys, all the women in the chat. Maline, Jody, everybody. Cohen has too much money. Does not care. Just awful season. It's over April 21st. I'm not even going to blame Cohen. Cohen's spending. It's not about the money for Cohen. He's got the second highest payroll in the history of baseball. It's the guys he keeps bringing in to spend the money.
>> Let's Let's ask another uh question. Uh here we'll get a question segment, but it's pretty close to Ray Ray Ray. And this goes for everybody in the chat as well.
on April 21st, as our great commenter just said as well. Is the Mets season over?
I'll surprise a lot of people and say no.
And I say that because I think the division's over. I'm not going to lie.
>> Wow.
>> I think the Braves are that good. I think I owe Steve Phillips an apology. I thought he was vastly underrating our Mets and I got on him but I am man enough to stand here tonight or sit and say I was wrong Steve and I'm sorry I ripped you a new one and believe it or not that video went viral which was I think he actually seen it but I am man enough to say here I was dead wrong. I believe this division you could wrap it up in a bow. might not be the Braves, but guys, you think the Phillies are going to suck the whole year? Miami is going to come down to earth, obviously Washington, but I really do believe the Phillies are top flight. And what uh Braves, excuse me. And one thing's for sure, you have May, June, July, three months, and the trade deadline. And I think the Braves are going to be making some mega moves to try to win it this year, especially if Akuna could stay healthy because we all know the injuries they've had these last few years. If the Braves are healthy, they're going to absolutely go for it all >> and their coaches can beat us because their coaches were Mets um brass at one point, Mr. Hefner and Mr. Richardson.
So, >> I see a lot of people commenting over on YouTube, guys. That's how you get your comments read, asking if their comments are going to be read. There's so many comments today. So, unless it's something that stands out, we're going to be going to our members because I think we have like last I checked, I think we have over 30 members or almost 35 members in the chat tonight. So, those people obviously get priority in regard to that. My project says, "How can they not fire Mendoza?" I don't know. Elvin says, "And now you see why I call Sterns discount Dave. Shaking my head. He gutted the core and failed to replace them with quality players above or equal to value. I will say this, something that I addressed in a in a show not too long ago.
David Sterns is the kind of guy if there is an A+ guy right here and there's a C++, a C+ and a B guy right here. And he could have A+ or C plus C plus B minus. He's taking these guys hoping one of them turns into them and the other and you get a good player out of all somewhere else. That is Rober Jr. Rober Jr. That is the C plus move. That is the lowrisk high reward except we can't afford low risk. We can't we needed a a big bat. Carson Benj is the C minus. You had Kyle Tucker out there. Instead of going Kyle Tucker, we're gonna go Rober Jr. and Carson Benge. We went C plus C minus. That's what it is, Dan. Instead of retaining Edwin Diaz, we went C minus with Devin Williams thinking, well, if he turns back into the player we all knew he was two years ago, 18 million could be a bargain. But except if it doesn't, it's a catastrophe. So instead of bringing in Kyle Tucker and Diaz, who Diaz to me is probably a B B+ish player, but Kyle Tucker to me is an A+ player, he decided, I'm going to go Palanco, who's a C++. I'm going to go Williams, who's a C++. I'm going to go Carson Bench, who's probably a D+. I'm going to go Rober Jr. who's a B minus or a C+ instead of bringing in top flight guys.
Now you can sit here and say, well, what about Bob Bashette? Bob Bashette is another BtoBB plus player. He's never He's not going to hit 25 homers. He was terrible in 2024, great in 2025. We're not talking about a Kyle Tucker who was consistently great across the board every single year.
People love to forget that. If you don't believe me, go look at Bobett's numbers in 2024 and you're going to say, "Damn, what the hell happened to this guy? He's hitting 200 with no power."
That's what I'm talking about. The consistently great player was out there to be had. Again, instead of trading the entire farm for Scooball, they traded a bunch of good prospects, not great prospects for Freddy Peralta. Now, that is still out there, remain to be seen. It could be great, but as of right now, it's a C plus to a B minus return until otherwise. You got a six inning pitcher with a four and a half almost five erra.
I mean, that's that's where we're at.
The A guys were out there, but instead of getting one or two of the A guys and filling in with a bunch of C's, he decided, I'm going to get a bunch of C++ guys and one B guy. That's that's my whole thing with the dollar store Dave, which I've never called him, but that is my argument for those kinds of Mets fans. He goes after as many C++ players with potential rather than getting the A or A+ guy that's in their prime. That's why I'm saying Scuba ain't coming here, guys. Because David Sterns would never allow it because you know why? His own prospect Corbin Burns was out there to be had last year and he didn't even pick up the phone. Let's not fool ourselves.
I hate playing stupid. We're not getting scoo. End of story.
>> No, I agree. I I completely agree. I think the only guy that I was even considering at the deadline was Sandy, but that was when the Mets were actually a good team, and right now they're not a good team. And you can't get anybody at the deadline when you're selling. You're going to have to look to potentially sell. You would hate to say it, but a Nolan Mlan, I I don't want to do that.
Nobody wants to do that. But let's talk lower level. Klay Holmes, you know, in a walk >> another B guy. But it worked out, >> right?
>> That's what he's hoping. He's hoping everybody's Klay Holmes. We're gonna take the reliever and make him a starter and sit here and pray that he's going to turn out to be a good starter. And it worked out one time.
>> You You would trade David Peterson uh in in a walk year. It's a easy contract to kind of get rid of, get a prospect in return. Um I can't believe anything.
What are you getting for a guy with a a nine RA?
>> You can get something. You'd be surprised. I mean, >> my You're right. Maybe you get something, but you're going to get, you know, you'll get a, you know, the Rodriguez guy we got from Tommy Fam a few years ago. You're going to get some guy nobody's ever heard of.
>> Yeah. So, that's the risk you run.
I I don't really know what other pieces right there. The offensive pieces kind of are a little bit hit or miss.
Obviously, Ventos or Batty, that value is not great right now. Um, you got to think about contracts that people would take on. Bobett's opting in. Nobody's taking that contract. You would think three for one.
>> Think about this. You got three years of punching Judy hitter. Bobett at 42 million. Devin Williams is making 18. Do the math. 42 52 60 million between those two guys.
guaranteed. Plus Shawn Maniah at 25 million next year. That's 85 million bucks between those three guys. And none of them are even close right now to a B+ player, which I think Bette could be.
But Bett's going through it, man. You could see it. He's overswinging. He's trying so hard just to get a base hit the other way to make contact. He's not right up here. And I'm not saying that can't change. Some guys go through an adjustment period. We've seen it before, but damn, do we need him to be the real Bo Bashette right now? That is the issue, Dan. When Sodto went down, the first thing I said live on our podcast was Lindor and Bashette have to step up and play. Not over their heads, just be the players we know them to be. Lindor needs to hit 270, be that 3030 guy.
Can't go into one of these prolonged twomon slumps or six week slumps, which he only slumped for four weeks, I'm surprised. And Bett's been even worse.
They can't do that. Bette is a top five highest paid AAV in the history of Major League Baseball. I think top three right now because there's no deferrals in the history of baseball. And he can't hit 240 and has zero home runs.
>> I I depressing. I feel like the I feel like I'm in therapy right now.
>> No words. It's It's >> Let's Let's do a quick rapid fire with a few more comments.
>> Yeah.
>> Jim says, "I hope the ballpark is even emptier tomorrow," which it will be. I promise you that. Steve needs to feel it for the only place he'll he still feels his wallet. Well, we'll see.
#reincarnation of 92. Yeah, I know. Brutal. Goomba says Williams was laughing when he loaded the bases. I didn't see that. But if I go back and watch it, I'll just I'll I'll say I want to say this is the first time in 41 years I hate this team. I can't stand half the players on this team or the managers, especially you know the uh PBO will leave out that Dan being held hostage. Am I holding you hostage, Dan? Maybe it's blink twice.
>> Look at the private chat right too whenever you have a sec. Um but yes, I I'm not held hostage here, guys. No, we we love to be here. We love you guys.
Quarter after 11. Um, you know, >> I got to be up at 4:30. This is how much I love my Mets. This is destroying me.
>> Yeah.
>> Let's get to a few more and we're going to sign off. Fmore says, "Dan is finally coming clean and being honest about the Mets being terrible." I'm not totally sure about that. You know, if your Kev says, "If your objective, you want a Mendoza fire with the rest of the staff." Absolutely. Something we talked about. We literally talked about that.
Um, Maline says, "Ray, you are right."
David says, "We'll hear the same thing on repeat. We'll have to win. There's a lot to work." Oh my gosh, I can't even look at Mendoza right now. Ray says, "Ray, Dan, you guys are the real deal."
Thank you very much. Absolutely. Thank you, Ray, for being such a longtime supporter. Bob says, "Sterns failed last year at last last year's trade deadline, then failed this off season." Yep. And he'll be back for next year. Odds are.
Williams says, "Why the hell isn't STO playing tonight? What the f? Still coming back from injury, my man. I'm telling you, I don't think he's fully healthy, but some people disagree. Nick says, "I'm sure you've already seen the stat. No team has ever made the playoffs in a season where they had 12game losing streak. We'll obviously keep watching, but it is sad." Absolutely. Elliot says, "Ray, can you take over as Mets manager for you can't do too much worse?" None. Oh, none of us for the matter. Yeah, well, that's actually right. Ah, Dave, I will read it, but I'm not gonna get into politics here. Dave says, "President Trump for manager, at least he knows what he's doing." I'm not even gonna get into that one. Not that I disagree or agree with you. We are trying to keep clean of the politics, even the interview I gave today. But, uh, let's see. Let's get to one or two more. Jody says, "We love you guys, too." And with that said, we're going to sign off after that. Guys, if you're still here, consider becoming a member down below in the description. two bucks guarantees you to get involved in our conversations.
Become a subscriber. Like the video if you're still here, and we'll probably be back tomorrow night. Odds are I will be at a special draft party on Thursday. So whether or not Dan does a post game or not, we'll see what happens. But can we just please get a win already? Jeez, >> please. Please.
>> I know. Let's go Mets, guys. God bless.
>> Good night.
