This video demonstrates the complete process of removing an engine from heavy equipment, including proper tool organization, systematic disassembly of components like the torque converter and motor mounts, and the importance of using appropriate lubricants (blue Loctite instead of red) to prevent future removal difficulties. The process involves careful planning, proper lifting techniques using equipment like jacks and cranes, and thorough inspection of potential failure points such as rear main seals and crankshaft grooves.

Day in the life of a Heavy Duty Mechanic Shop - pulling an engine and a toolbox tour!Added:
Got to make sure that I don't look bad for the camera, you know. I got to take this off so I'm not a choo choo train.
>> Straight fisting.
Aha.
What up?
>> You know what you're doing there? What?
>> I've got no dude.
>> Sick, dude.
>> I'm just figuring this out as I go.
What are you doing?
>> Hi guys, welcome back.
I was told I don't smile enough in these videos, so you're going to get creepy Sam from today on. Uh today we are pulling this guy's engine. Um because the rear main's pissing out, which uh in case you didn't know, ain't good.
So yeah, I haven't read any of the instructions or anything like that. So, we're just raw dogging this [ __ ] Um, and yeah, I feel like he's got another issue, too, because uh when I initially came and looked at this, the oil, like for it being cold, is super runny. It doesn't really smell like uh engine oil anymore. So, I think he's got other issues, but we got to pull it anyways to replace the rear main seal. So that is what we're going to What the you want.
Highbeaming the audience right now.
>> Any drugs and alcohol tonight, son?
>> All of them.
>> All of them.
>> Yeah. I get accused of being high all the time, by the way.
I guess I don't open my eyes wide enough. So So luckily I don't think I have to drain the refrigerant out.
Um cuz I can just flop the compressor over to the side here like this.
Uh one thing I'm going to try to do is not take out the cooler packs cuz I don't want to. And the freaking [ __ ] cooler, hydraulic cooler.
One of the coolers on the front. They're a real pain in the ass to get off. They don't leave any room for a wrench or anything like that. So, I'm going to ignore that. I'm going to try and pop off the fan and just spit on it and slide it out.
>> Yeah, that's what I'm going to do right there.
Oh, yeah. Film that you dirty.
Such a good boy.
Hi, I'm back.
Hi, I'm back.
I got to got to make sure that I don't look bad for the camera, you know. I got to take this off so I'm not a choo choo train.
Oh, just in time. Just in time for the toolbox tour. I've been uh I have been splurging a little bit here and there.
Got myself a uh actually kind of started kind of started when the Cam gave me this cocon ratchet and then all the stuff in Home Hardware like all the Gear Wrench stuff started going on sale. So I that's like the that's like the beginning. And then once I got this box it was all over, you know, like just I have to fill it. And so now there's a uh consumable and and like pens, cutters, all my uh power tools. Got the updated Gen 2 Milwaukee Stubby. Love that thing. And picked this up over the weekend. Freaking guys can talk, you know, smack about their Gen two Milwaukee die grinders or whatever the DeWalt guys have the latest. Both of those are not as powerful as this.
Like, go watch the torque test channel.
This thing beats everything that he tests. So that's the power tools drawer and then picks and screwdriver and then I'm a little bit barrel and wrenches.
They're at home and all my picks and sorry not picks all my pliers and uh cutters and then crescent wrenches. got a punch set. And yeah, and I picked the uh and the toolbox is yellow because I'm And I also um while while the camera was away, I put together this rest in peace Felix. He no longer he's no longer in the shop with us. Um I put together this like kind of consumable cart with all the with also like some of the most used tools that's shared. Got some air stuff there. And then all the electrical, just stuff that you can quickly grab and know where things are so you're not like going over the shop looking for >> just passing through.
>> Where where is Felix? He didn't get quit or >> No, no. Felix is still with us in spirit. He uh he tragically died of an car accident 5 days ago.
No, no. He uh he he's only he's he's at camp. He's at camp now. He's uh he's coming back.
Actually, I don't know when he's coming back, but he's he's on like 3 weeks and then two weeks off type of schedule. So, yeah. Rest in peace, Felix. I miss you, but like you're also kind of a douchebag to me, but but I miss you. So, >> how's it going? All right.
She's coming along.
Um, >> I got >> All right. See you in a bit.
>> I think pretty much most of this side off. Um, there's just the back head coolant lines that I got to take off.
And right now I was going to take off theinging turbo lines, but uh but I don't know how the I can take that off. I mean, I got to take the exhaust off anyway, so it's not a big deal. But if I was just changing that, I'd be pretty pissed.
Also, I I'm just taking off the exhaust to get a bit more access on stuff. And plus, I got to take it off anyways because one of the lifting eyes is right in me and I can't get anything on it.
The other one's right here. So when I go to hoist this [ __ ] out, I'll have two instead of one. One All right, now I put the love glove back on. Oh, yes.
I don't have one yet, but I don't like doing that. But I'm just doing that for now till I go get a glove.
Cuz I've had it once where I've sucked the egg into the intake just barely. I was like, it was on my truck and I I can't remember what the doing. I think I was pulling turbo on it or something, but I I went to go start it back up and like it sounds kind of weird. It's like making like a sound. It's like, oh, that's weird. And like went to go check and just saw the rag sticking out of of my um intake elbow there. It's like, oh, oh no.
Managed to pull it out before anything bad happened. But that would have been cuz I was really broke back then. Still am. But yeah, usually I have like putting gloves on it and then just like zap strapping it if it's uh if she's loosey goosey still or using the hose clamp.
If I remember where I put my impact.
There you go. Now you have a sealed thing.
So yeah, you see those Allen sockets there or the cap head screws or whatever you want to call them. I need to take those out. So those are my torque converter.
Red Loctited. That would have sucked >> since the game plan and see if it's stripping on the backside or not. So, that's going to be uber stupid if I got to somehow do that. I don't know how the hell I even do that.
Get those bolts out. Oh, do they have nuts on the backside the huh?
Wonder if that's stripping then. Let's see.
At least the threads aren't stripped, but >> um you can you can see here like it's supposed to be like either crimped or welded this nut to this tab and it's supposed to just butt up against the probably the ring gear there, but it broke.
So that's why just spinny spin spin no work. And in the last clip there, uh I showed you what was stripping around.
So now I'm just trying to figure out a way of getting at it. And since it was still a nut, I'm able to get the stubby through here and onto the back side of the nut.
Just got to use the force.
It seems to be grabbing. So hopefully it grabs enough for me to take it off.
If not, not going to have a good time. I mean, I guess worst case Ontario, I could just slide out the engine with the torque converter, but then I'd have to take more stuff off, and I don't want to do that. I really don't.
I think it's working.
Slow and steady.
Cranking my hog, brother.
Oh, there's a I don't know how many, but they're all around gear. So hopefully they're not all like that. But I'm going to guess they're all like that.
All right, 10 more to go.
This actually stupid. Stupid.
That's why you don't put red loctite on your torque converter bolts.
Only put blue.
Welcome back.
Um, yeah, I'm just seeing if I can get to all the bell housing bolts now. Um, I got the torque converter bolts out, which were a pain in the but uh going to put like a jack underneath the [ __ ] so it doesn't um and then we get to tension test anything that I didn't take out or forgot to unhook. So, yeah.
Okay, let's go.
Hoping I got got enough room to take it out with the fan shroud in. Okay, let's find a a bottle jack to jack off. Should we jack off?
Now I'm going to take off the motor mounts. Um, hook it up by the little gantry crane there. Then uh pray that it fits out.
Well, I'm going to hook it up and then undo the bell housing bolts.
Yeah.
Yeah.
All right. I need more tools.
I know some people get heated about like if they if if this is called like a motor or an engine and like it's an engine cuz it self-drives itself, right? Like a motor, it's powered by something else.
But why do they call them motor mounts?
Why don't they call them engine mount? I guess they do call them engine mounts, but like the more common name for them is just motor mounts.
Why? I don't know. Let us know in the chat. You're probably going to be calling me a rese.
But but it's not a motor. It's an engine.
All right, this guy is.
>> So, it's all hooked up.
>> Yeah, for now.
But I'll take out the motor mounts and then I'll do the bell housing bolts.
Okay, it's not going to work.
Oh, maybe I'll try taking out with the motor mouse. At least I can lift it up and get to them easy.
Once that's on there, what size are the bell housing bolts?
Stop back.
>> I love this type of work. Like this is what I always wanted to go into. Um when I first started was like I want to be mobile mechanic, you know.
>> Yeah.
>> And uh I didn't want to run like a box truck or anything like that. So I knew I wanted to run a service truck >> with a crane on it.
What are you doing now?
>> Taking off the bell housing bolts.
And hopefully she'll lift right out.
But you know that's too good to be true.
So Oh yeah, baby.
Who's your papa there and motor mount number two?
Okay. Okay. Let's see if I can't lift it out now.
>> Think I should have everything off.
This side should be all right.
It's this side I'm worried about.
Okay, tight squeeze. Now I can get to the fuel line that I was >> still connected.
>> Yeah, it's just a spot. So, >> oh god.
>> Yeah, I got his number. Yeah.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Okay. I I'll just You're on vacation. Go enjoy it. Okay.
She was a tight squeeze there, boy. But >> she's ready for liftoff.
Should be famous last words.
Okay. Off. Five minutes.
Really should have taken that off.
Blair.
Okay. Hopefully I can sneak it out of here now.
There you go.
Ha.
So, let me just set it on the ground right now.
Let's put this back on for now and then later we get some new ones for it.
New filters.
Yeah. I don't know if we can see anything on the inside of it now until I take the flywheel out.
Oh, my flashlight's dead.
Nothing yet.
>> What's wrong with it? Is it leaking oil?
>> Yeah.
Um, most likely out of this seal that's in behind here.
So, I'll just have to pop it off and take a gander.
All right.
I mean, it's definitely leaking out of there, but as for why, I mean, besides the thinner oil, cleaner oil. Um, uh, it could be that the crank might have like a groove in it.
So, they make like little speedy sleeves, which are just like really thin. Um, it's like a really thin collar that goes over top of the crank and it just gives it like a a new ceiling surface to ride on. They're only like couple thou thick, but uh they do work that >> probably have to see.
It could be leaking in between the block and the um whatever the call it the bell housing.
So yeah, we won't know until we take take it all off. But yeah, the engine's out. I'll uh I'll try and put loosely back all the bolts so that they don't get lost cuz there was a lot that I had to take out there at the end that might have got kicked around. Well guys, another successful day.
Another win for the OG.
Yeah, another another great day today.
It's always great here at Blu-Tech. What can I say?
Um, yeah. I mean, I got the engine out, got the got the job that I wanted done today, done, so that's good. Yeah.
Thanks for watching, guys. Um, if you guys got any questions for me, doubt it. But if you want, uh, just leave them below. And, uh, yeah, thanks for watching.
