Washington D.C. features significant historical landmarks including the Washington Monument (completed in 1865) with a mulberry tree planted in 1800 that witnessed its construction, and the Lincoln Memorial containing a 19-foot marble statue of Abraham Lincoln, with the Gettysburg Address inscribed on its walls and the famous Martin Luther King Jr. speech delivered on its steps in the 1960s.

Our First Travel Video | Washington, D.C. & the Start of 2 Passports & a CameraAdded:
Hello and welcome to two passports and a camera.
We're Letitia and Hannes, an American and South African couple based in Georgia, the USA, [music] and this channel is our way of sharing the places, food, people, culture, and history of our experiences we discover as we travel.
Now, we are both educators, but whenever time allows, we love getting [music] out into the world and seeing as much of it as we can.
Since we first met >> [music] >> on a Virgin Atlantic flight between New York and London in 2019, we've been fortunate to travel to many destinations across the United States [music] and around the world. Our journeys have taken us all the way through Europe, Africa, Abu Dhabi, the Caribbean, and even along [music] several fabulous cruises along the way.
But over time, friends and family [music] following us on Facebook and Instagram would often tell us how much they enjoyed seeing where we were going and what we were experiencing, [music] and that has planted the idea for us for this channel.
So, for us, travel is not only about visiting [music] beautiful places, it's about understanding the stories behind them.
And we look forward to making new discoveries in beautiful places like Egypt, [music] the pyramids, and the history of the pharaohs.
We love destinations with history, character, and a sense of adventure. The kind of places that make you stop, look around, and realize [music] how much there is to learn from the world just beyond your own doorstep.
We also love the variety that travel brings, the landscapes, [music] wildlife, local food, um unexpected conversations, and the small everyday moments that often become the memories we talk [music] about long after the trip is done.
Now, as you can notice, Letitia loves [clears throat] to talk to giraffes, so if you ever see one, she'll be talking to it.
Sometimes we visit well-known places, and sometimes we find ourselves somewhere completely unexpected. Either way, these experiences are what make travel so rewarding, and we look forward to sharing those with [music] you.
This first video of our channel [music] is a little different from what many of our future videos will look like.
It's not one of our trips together as a couple. [music] Instead, it follows my recent visit to Washington, D.C.
where I attended a conference that had some [clears throat] opportunity, or I [music] some opportunity, to explore the city, its landmarks, and some of the history that makes it such an important place.
But soon, Tricia and I will be >> [music] >> traveling together again.
First up to hire for a few days, and then to South Africa for a month.
We will have the opportunity to share much more [music] of what this channel is about, and show you much of what Cape Town is about, and further north into [music] Johannesburg and the northern Transvaal to enjoy a safari.
So, whether you are planning your own travels, looking for ideas, or simply joining us from home, we're glad you're here.
And whether you're a regular traveler, an occasional explorer, or someone who simply enjoys seeing the world through others, [music] we're glad you're here.
Welcome to Two Passports and a Camera, and we hope you enjoy the ride with us.
>> [music] >> Magnolia town was humming.
Smoke lay on [music] the ground.
Yeah, Magnolia town was humming.
Smoke [music] lay on the ground.
Here, no face I recognize.
And my baby can't be [singing] found.
I left that place in summer.
Swore I'd be back by fall. [singing] I left that place in summer.
Swore I'd be back by fall.
Now the porch is bare and broken.
And her name's gone from the wall.
>> [music] >> Heard the church bell moaning.
Down on Beale Street side.
Heard the church bell moaning.
Down on Beale Street side.
So, what I'm going to do now is head into the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum.
And have a look what's inside.
>> [music] [music] [music] >> So, you got here I'm at the Washington Monument. And that monument is 1865.
So, around about there.
But, if you notice there's a tree in the foreground, and that's a [music] mulberry tree. That mulberry tree has been there since 1800. It's called the witness tree, because it witnessed the development and building of that monument in recognition of George Washington as the first president of the United States.
So, very interesting.
And this is the surrounding park area all the way down to >> [music] [music] [singing] [music] [singing] >> But, as you can see I'm at the Abraham Lincoln Memorial, and inside is a 19-ft marble statue of Abraham Lincoln that I'm going to go visit, and then that's what I've something I want to see for some time.
Beyond me is the Lincoln Reflecting Pool.
As you can see there, it's still being undergone the changes that Donald Trump is doing.
And that's estimated to be completed by the 10th of June 2026.
So, here we are. Lots of people around, so I'm going to go inside, have a look, and I have a quick chat with Abe.
>> [music] >> In the Lincoln Memorial, it's quite crowded where his statue is, but you can see me here behind me.
Um that's in there, 19-ft tall.
Um and it's beautiful. Everything's marble.
And then behind me here is the Gettysburg Address on the wall and then you can see it over there.
And then of course if you go outside and you look down the stairs of the Lincoln Memorial and that's where the famous Martin Luther King's speech was made in the '60s.
>> [music and singing] [music] [music] [music] [singing] [music] >> Well, I'm now in Lincoln Memorial Park.
It's a beautiful park as you can see around me.
>> [music] >> Beautiful greenery, not too busy out here cuz all the tourists are on buses.
And I'm going to be walking to a place called the Exchange Saloon [music] which is a bar near the White House which is the oldest bar in Washington D.C.
>> [music] >> So I thought if it's all this part it must be something worth going to see.
So I'm heading there to let you see what it looks like.
