2026 O60 State Carnival | Men’s Singles Grand FinalAdded:
I feel like I need to get away. Club Barron That's where I want to go again.
Where I >> [music] >> Slow flow up the river carry my body [music] weight down that cool cool water and into the end of the day down that cool cool water and into the end of the day.
Good afternoon, everybody. You might ask, "Where are we?" We're at Club Barham. We're on the river, and we're here for the men's singles final of the 2026 over 60s state carnival, Battle of the Sticks. We got Ross against his opponent, Ian Page. Both have had some big victories so far to get to this moment. We're playing for $2,000 and the state title. And we've got JT alongside me to talk a bit of crap. How you going, JT?
Um I'm not sure I can compete with that, but yeah, thank you, Sammy. Uh we've got to the crescendo of this carnival. It's been a great 9 days, and uh hopefully all all the streaming matches have been very close affairs so far, Sammy. They have been good. The engagement has been good.
We want to see that again from those tuning in on Facebook and YouTube.
Open the end first to 21. If you're just joining us, we are We play release sport here.
No time limit for the final, so uh yeah, we're expecting a close contest. And uh we've got Ronnie Bates our ITO marking the final for us.
And uh Ross Higgins has opening ball of the final.
And we've got a delay in the game after the Jack speed roll.
Uh in the semi-finals that just occurred, Sammy. Yes.
>> Ian Page beat John Curtain 21-11 now. I reckon Pagey came out of the blocks. It was like 16-1 or 17-2 and then Johnny got back in the game and then um once Pagey got off 17, he sort of went away again.
>> after that.
>> Yep. He just 17 stuck him for a bit and then Ross Higgins defeated Giora Pummeroy France 21-19 in a very tight one.
Yeah, Giora got ahead I reckon maybe got to 17-12 17-13. Yep.
Something like that.
It's interesting the three semi-final The three of the four semi-finals were all in the the C rolling up late after the women's singles final. The only one The only one who wasn't Bay Ian Page and he was the one who come out of like all guns blazing today, so I don't know how we read into that, but it's just a very instant interesting observation I made.
And you weren't able to figure out this time yesterday but the back end going away from the clubhouse, very very cold head if you've got the good speed.
>> Yeah, well you you seem to find it.
I was fighting the forehand this way and the backhand back.
And those of you joining us watching on YouTube and or Facebook, engage in the in the chat. Give us a shout out. Ask us questions. We will be getting involved.
As Mark joins us from the Philippines.
>> [snorts] >> And straight now, Sammy.
He Paige picked up four of his his semi-final.
Might be doing that here. well just to cut back.
Three down, open the end.
Feel like he's got extra speed. Just needs to find a path.
There's a path. It's good enough for one, I reckon.
Oh, is it or not?
Close. He's one on the way here.
Blondey and Paige first in.
Big last ball. A few here from the crowd are are from Achuca JT.
Couple car loads come over.
Got the pom poms out.
How's that?
Producer Josh just pans the crowd.
Gets wasted on for his efforts as well.
Both the players have walked in off the green for close to an hour, would you say? Oh, not I wouldn't have thought Russ would be quite as much. Definitely Pagey.
Looks like Russ was reasonably ready to go as soon as the women's pairs final finished.
Two different types of bowling arms being used there, Sammy. And Page using the hacksaw and uh Russ using the Bionic Bowls arm, I'm pretty sure it's called that one.
Looks on target for money. What have this forehand towards the clubhouse?
Just gets the back edge of the bowl. Russ still got one.
Good again.
She's to run it out.
Maybe not.
Got to be the end of this time, surely.
Just about.
Unlucky twice.
Unlucky twice.
Uh die. I think entries were slightly down, very very minute in down. Uh I don't think that had anything to do with it. We actually think or our our feedback was that around the time entries opened, the whole fuel crisis was probably a bigger deterrent than anything else.
Um Shot.
The reality was all our feedback or majority of our feedback from the last couple years was that nobody wanted to play through more than three games in a day.
And thus we've spaced the event out so that can actually cater for that and make it an experience for bowlers, not tire them out too much.
>> Been here for a week and a half, not one of the players come up and go, "Wish I had a fourth game today." Yeah.
Uh Hawkins on the board with a two.
I remember last year when we had four game days, like we had ladies who were playing knockout singles in Mornington, Sammy, and they'll drive an hour from Mornington back to Ballarat at 10:00. We couldn't cop that. No, never again. Never again. We want to look after our bowlers.
Who waving at?
Uh one of the uh winners from the women's pairs team, JT.
Wow, what a comeback.
Drama as well.
Uh yeah, a little bit of drama, yeah, with a We got to the right result. It was the right result. Yeah, yeah, yeah, absolutely.
>> Well, the standard of both these gentlemen that they've played out throughout the week has been extremely >> high.
Haven't quite found the length in few ends.
Did you miss Ross Higgins game against Chris Young?
Uh I All right match out here on B green. Yeah, I was in a meeting, pretty sure.
Saw Ross uh on live stream actually last month, JT, up at the State Pairs Champs at the King of Flat.
Just going down the uh in the in the singles final there as well. He did, yeah.
>> repeat of that.
Josh was there, I was there, that's right.
Good shot by Pagey, speaks past his own.
30 to change Andy up.
Thanks for the shout out, Mario Brizard.
>> Frost was to play his forehead and turn this up high over the jackies.
Could be holding a few.
Just a walk down here.
He played an amazing ball on the second to last end in the semi-final against Giora. He was down one, which would have made it 20-19 Giora as well. And he actually just flat drew a resting toucher.
Yeah, I would have had a head shake but it looked like he had to.
I thought he was showing some sort of some sort of white and there was risk if he did go again like he did with his third ball.
Drew a cold so I actually will pick up these second end of the game.
Another single, two each.
Big thank you to Murray River Council and Club Baron for their support again of this year's event. Club Baron of course JT home of the Baron Sons franchise.
Uh that would be correct.
It's our next 5 not long not long away now. It's our next event we stream.
Ooh.
The side returns from last year, same side.
>> Someone okay? That's not me by the way.
For those concerned at home. Who's that?
Pat. No, well, Pat has had some coughing today, but um No, I don't know. It doesn't matter.
Let's get back to the game.
T Bain says the Bintang's to Carl. If you're still in Bali, mate, you'll have the best holiday I've ever seen.
I thought he was there when we were in Betty Goes.
>> No, he was. He's definitely back. He's just being funny.
For the Bintang's would be Carl, but Carl was How's that, Mike? Mike a little bit of drink choice this week, Sammy.
Changed up a little bit.
>> different. It's been different, hasn't it?
Don't two off you. Sit to it, dear.
Left uh Left-handed will step out with the left left foot, keeps >> Right foot planted. What did you do with the motorbike accident he had?
Those couple of little first bowls here, chance for I'll put those down as two to Pat in the previous. It's two all.
Chance for him to jump on. You got one job, mate.
Short ball coming in.
Travis Varcoe hits Justin front.
Ball enough?
Patching Mr. Page.
What a great shot. Oh, he's done that a couple times earlier on.
>> [snorts] >> Flicks the ball and runs on through.
Ross Hickey can still holding one and has last ball to make it two.
Coming in for a kick. Pretty decent line.
Yeah, that'll get there in time for two shots.
Confirmed it means Ross Hickey gets to complete a lot page of four shots.
2 2 >> We do have an official wine partner JT at baby trend of the states.
It's good, eh? Is that good for you or not? Not a big wine man.
Don't mind a red.
Already come the boys now with their first couple of bowls here.
And the one that holds on a fair way decent opening ball.
Not a bad reply either. Draw zero reply or applause from the crowd here watching.
I thought that was a pretty good shot.
>> You know what I was checking out to see what type of wine trend of the state had. They do a nice heaps of reds.
>> Oh, righty-oh.
I got to pump out partners up. I'm just working out what I was going to drink of it. Good.
I don't do white. That's just my preference, you know.
Probably the wrong guy to talk about it.
Where is it? It's up in Mildura. Uh, they they got a couple different places.
Mildura is definitely one.
Maybe the name Trentham would suggest they got maybe something in Trentham as well, would they?
I would think so.
>> Yeah, okay.
Sinks you two crackers this and for main page so far.
>> Oh, here you go. Beautiful follow earlier. It's got the jack here. In the nose.
>> it gets all the way in. That jack will stay in.
Oh, how far from drawing to that?
Yeah.
Big conversion with a third ball, Rossy, and sinks the jack.
>> There's still a bit of room there, Sammy. Look.
That's not going to get shot.
Not a bad second.
And that'll be good enough for two one at Sammy. Jeez, this was well played.
with my ball 2.1 7 ft Well, he's definitely got more.
Is he going to split that gap, Sammy?
He has. Is it good enough for a shot?
It's got to be close.
I reckon it nearly is.
What pedal has Rod Bates got?
Well, those 30 m up the other end liked it.
So, it wasn't far enough.
I don't Oh, best in the game by far. Plenty happening.
>> Hey, Joshua, you still got that photo from earlier? Let's see Sammy have a guess at some of those faces. What's going on here? Photo.
>> It was a little bit of trivia earlier.
What on earth? What's this? Well, we're waiting for the measure.
I was nervous. What is on my screen here? That's a the state side, but 1990.
>> Can you pick anyone?
There's two of them who played in this week's carnival.
And there's some other quite famous names and faces there.
>> Yeah, that is Chris Young, third from right in the middle. Yes, spot on.
>> Let's go.
How have you got that and do you have the answers to them? I do. All right.
Right, I'm all over it.
Hang on, we'll go back to the game now though. Yeah, give me a look in about another half an hour's time and I'll have another look.
Got one. I'm happy I got one.
What's it? There was one more in that photo that was playing here this week so I think so.
All right, what blue so Aussie Kids does well, gets the shot, goes out to 5-2 lead.
Played first at 21 to decide this year's over 60s state carnival men's singles champion.
He's on the wrong line.
Well, the good news is he'll be able to move the mat over. Is that correct?
Ooh, and and for good measure, Rod Betts has also put the jack on to dump.
It's all happening.
Bit of rain overnight today but as a whole we've had good conditions for the last couple months of events. We've done well. Highly been impacted?
>> Not at all.
Uh great start to Ian Page.
>> He's just got dead draw weight.
Did it stay out for sure?
Ooh, measure.
According to Rod Bates.
Not one bit of excitement from the crowd then. He played a pretty good draw shot pit to pit.
Yeah, it's a It's a good ball. Batesy's coming down for a look. He's got the last ball of the end. Who is Batesy, or Paige? Uh Paige has come for a look. That's what I said. Yeah, I think he said Batesy. Ah, well, Batesy was happy to look as well, to be fair.
Still a nice positive draw on the forehand, I think.
Touch of Jack down line for two.
Oh, there's this line. He's out to this nice line from here.
Yeah, as long as it's good weight, he's close.
Here it comes. Inside this.
Oh, inside edge of that. It's really good. Did you see him walking on there?
I actually didn't know he was still here.
The state 16 over pairs champ.
>> left about 6 hours ago. Pairs champ for I said I haven't seen him for ages.
What's he doing?
He's back.
Goldburn.
Sparky's on the road. JT's made it as far as West Wyalong.
Wet afternoon.
Where is West Wyalong? That is the question. So, it's south of Forbes.
But, north of sort of Narrandera.
On the Newell Highway.
Uh looks like the In Page ball is clearly shot by that first measure. I thought measure this time's going to go the way of what's Are you going to page them back together? Yeah, he's brought it in.
Nice.
What it is the In Page.
3 5 Ian Samuel joining us all the way from Newcastle in UK.
Where did Newcastle finish in? I love oh You are a soccer guru.
Starter for In Page. There's multiple teams in Newcastle though. Yeah, but I'm I'm Newcastle. They follow a different Newcastle United the most famous.
In Newcastle? I hope we get like 50 Sunderland fans just in the comments like bang bang bang bang bang.
Well, I'm sorry, but as someone who's not as keen a follower as you are of the English Premier League.
>> I don't even know where Newcastle finished. Bottom half, maybe.
I've got no idea. Bottom half.
Um Josh, change of length very early on. I like it.
>> Yeah, change tact up.
I thought after his opening two balls, the previous head coming this direction, he might have stuck with that.
12th, there you go. Where did Sunderland finish at the end of Ray Jurray from Launceston, former teammate of mine back in the Cara RSL days. Oh, wow. Also, he would know a lot of He was summary person for a long time, too. So, he would know blokes like Sonny Warledge and Ekka and all them, too.
Very good bowler, Ray, back in the day.
Yeah, Page just flicks Ross's ball out of the way through.
Only two shots.
>> It's good enough nearly from Ross.
Yeah, it's easy to get stuck wide here, Josh, as you know.
What would I know?
Is it 46 times on repeat in 2 hours yesterday?
>> [laughter] >> Why wouldn't you play that?
I don't get that. There's like I didn't even try to draw a shot. He hates me. I don't give up.
Oh, well. One.
They're in the final, we're not. You want to win or lose 2021?
6-3.
I've seen that happen a few times this week where we try I've seen people give up not play, but why would you not even just practice bowl draw on the tee? I I don't know.
But, I don't know. Again, you can draw like right I'll now be wide draw one jack or eight inches. I'm counting.
I'll skate a little slow out the front.
So, it's probably probably in front of Jack. So, maybe Paige can use that to get back down to it. Just missed his line with the second ball.
Just texting. He seen that and thought it's time to get a check. Yeah, he would have.
So he he knew that was his chance to bail.
Could hold on. No, he probably needed a little feather up to into the head.
He's leaving the venue.
>> By right.
And here's another one, Sammy.
Should have been paid just a little bit more, I reckon.
Could have afforded to. Did you see the ant that was crawling really closely to the wide Ross Edgley's bowling? What was that? What?
On the green?
>> Yeah.
Oh, it's going now.
No change. Ross Edgley's wins the end.
Picks up his third multiple for the game.
And uh It's going to open up a little bit of a lead here early, eight shots to three. I already put the score on before Rod declared it.
Fancy on the green.
Ah, missed it.
He completely ripped it. Just just bolted. He He was already He was already moving before I I reckon I sent it.
So, I think it was pure coincidence, or he was a mind reader.
Ross sort of playing much better on the three-quarter length to longer ends.
It's a mystery.
Start of the year.
That's all of them coming to Jack behind.
That's all [snorts] of them half in front of Jack high. Jack's about 3 in.
Yeah.
Hopefully [snorts] close.
Nearly fell out and turned pages onto the jack.
Love to get to it first and just change the shape of this slightly.
Trying.
Trying.
Great bottle.
>> Yes.
Exactly what he was after.
Still only one, but much better head for him.
>> I was going to see if he could squash this Jack's hard ways for a few.
Just got the gap.
Oh.
Is he going to get it Sammy? Not quite I don't reckon.
Picking the line for him away pretty good.
Picks up the line. Shot.
So it's back to 8-4.
If you were to start using a bowling arm, which one would you choose?
Uh I feel I haven't ever even tried to use one before. So I feel like I'd have to uh Well, just looking at them and seeing how people use them and all the rest of it. What's your gut feeling? Uh dude, I just come on mate. Come on. That's not a hard question to answer. Well, clearly there's no right or wrong way to go about it. Come on mate.
Both the boys are in the final. No, that's not where I'm going with it.
that's not where I'm going with it.
I'm just curious.
I think I like looking at from looking from the outside the hacksaw model.
Feels like they'd be lighter.
>> Ooh. Bit of aggression early.
How about Jack? How about Bounce?
How about the tee?
Yeah, well, all pages touch it goes in the pit.
Close for sure, though.
No, cuz Ross is out of bounds. Is it?
Yep. No, it wasn't. What? No, it wasn't.
Yes, it was.
Oh.
Well, it wouldn't be close for sure, cuz one's on the peg and one's inside the peg.
Yeah, it's on the tee.
How could it be close?
Well, you were telling me one ball was out of bounds when it wasn't.
>> don't think anyone's in the right here.
Close.
Two?
Yep.
>> Good enough, Sammy?
Good, Jack. I wait.
That's a good question, Diane. I'll work that out very quickly.
Situation, please.
Feel like Ross might have played eight.
Did he play the round of 128, you reckon? Feel like he was here in the morning.
So, Page he played in the round of 128.
So, he definitely get a buy.
We could add another one in.
Done well here. Two good shots.
Ross Higgins got the buy in the round of 128.
So, and Page then played Do you know what Page has played at? Ross has played seven.
Yeah, I'm figuring that.
One, two, three, four, five. Are you sure you're counting this in your head?
Now, this will be Page's ninth game and Ross's eighth, including sectional play.
Question was, how many matches have the finalists played to get here? So, I It's good. Thanks, Josh.
Ross Higgins, two down.
I want to pinch this and I'd have played it.
I still clarified with the right answer.
Okay, look. Just answered it in a different wording.
Two to Ampage, 8-6.
So, uh what are you eligible for this carnival?
>> [laughter] [snorts] >> Yeah.
You've been getting practice. It's good.
15 years.
Certainly you would have hoped.
Unfortunately, yes.
Yeah, I reckon Paige is just starting to find it with this forehand.
Good open up.
Oh.
Thought that was going to be a transition to something else.
Two Bevels in the chat and says there's a cheer.
>> What's that? Cheers quad. Yeah, cheers quad of Danny.
For Paige.
And they're still calling it the ball of the century.
This was the venue.
It's a few weeks over.
Yeah, about Check it was ring four the way it was set up.
Just about See where Charlie was sitting there in that little table next to Charlie in between him and Steve Wilson.
Yeah.
See that. That's where my confidence juice was sitting.
Shots by Eoin.
Bosco's talking this one.
He's nearly drawn it.
>> This is what he does.
This is what he does. He just draws the cards sometimes. He just comes down. You think he's going to give himself a extra weight to set the balls beat.
Just keeps on going there. See these ball heads on one side it's got the white lines and the other side it actually doesn't.
See that on the Yeah, on the inside.
>> Inside, yeah. I reckon he's changing the lines.
Yeah. It's not quite You know how there's those sort of dimples sort of >> On the side though. The circles I reckon.
I could hit this one up and down for sure. shot It's definitely the best head Sammy.
>> Still think Paige you being right-handed, he's playing backhanded here surely Sammy.
To me it seems like he can get to the check on the back end. If he gets a little bit moving he could make three or four. Yeah.
And he's playing forehand.
Well, first of that all I'm back picking. He thinks he's down. He's been in playing aggressive line trying to get to the ball. Good try.
Yeah, Paige you didn't find that really funny.
Yeah.
>> [clears throat] >> One day, one.
Just the white was good, just slightly tight.
Oh, was it?
Red bites having a good look at it.
Well, he does it indicate to him that he's still got it?
Something similar.
Hello.
Just to be quick.
One eight page.
Seven nine.
>> Fair correction is Sammy.
Very very good shot indeed.
Well, it funny it coincides with him playing the hand the judges nailed all last night and Mr. D's line on the other hand.
A lot of talk here boys. Well, I don't think this both clicked onto it just yet.
But based on what I saw last night, the hand that Rush just played and the hand that Paige just played is the good hand.
Something like that. Mhm.
>> He's getting down.
It wasn't pretty, Clarky. That's for sure.
Shadish here is looking for some cover.
Right. Shot.
Will that be shot? Absolutely. Got it with a piece of the chalk right through.
>> played the first one.
Harder for us to get at now, too.
All right, Paige, too.
Uh, I think you're just short still, Ross, but Uh, probably slightly under to give yourself a chance to trail it.
Two it is.
>> Just like that. The back door is square again. For last five ends away of Ian Page, it's a six-shot to one run. Nine all is the score.
They got lead of the jack up.
First one he down in parts. Uh Kind of forehand, can't get enough turn to be around the last.
Drops on the back end now, gives himself a chance to trail it again.
Open end.
Put badly down.
Ian Page couple touches to begin this end. Oh, yes.
Did you answer Mick's question?
Oh.
I thought I would I saw I thought I'd wait till you came back. Save it.
Cool. It's a good one, Nate.
Close here again. Yes. He's got three touches. Yes. That's three touches in the same end.
You get four, you win a car.
That was a That was a thing once back in the day.
>> going to say, sorry. We don't We don't have a car to give away, do we? No, we don't. But um there was a couple What was it?
I think it was super serious.
Buster World Pool as well in the past. Oh, right. It wasn't a car. I think it was like 10 grand or something, you know.
Four touches in an end.
A great prize.
You just taking out insurance on it.
How many is this? Is it all three or just two?
>> for sure.
Can he do it? A fourth toucher? Looks hard to get to. Looks the head. Don't know how hard he'd be trying to get a toucher. I don't think he'd be trying at all, to be honest with Oh, well, it's a little tight line.
He doesn't want to turn Ross his head.
Yeah, he's under there.
So, answer the question that Mick Hollingworth asked you in the chat.
>> Just wait until the end finishes cuz Ross has played a bit of weights. It's going to be over real soon. He might peel it out clean.
Oh, clean that out, too.
Who is it? Yeah, it's going to be two.
Couldn't be any more, could it? No idea it could be three. Check in that yellow one.
Yeah, three easy. You reckon three easy?
I'll get on the board. He pages in front first time since the opening end.
Three it is. Same time. Three of the match took it to end 14.
14 there, and so just to double check He's first at 12 and 9.
Well, I didn't get around to paying all your members last season, so I'm going to come back up and tick that off the list, and um continue paying my my way in my train ticket up to Marine Downs.
Pay my way, and if you just shout 100 bucks of worth of KFC after the final again, then I'm in.
We'd better ask her on that one. Ask Kelce Looks like I'm not coming back.
>> [laughter] >> No, you see she's happy. Just she'll go down and get it and then get the extra, you know, charges.
And Paige on her own five of the last six ends JT.
He's definitely ramped his game up since the start.
I missed the start of his semi-final for Sporting Aces. Johnny Gordon. He must have started on fire though. But he's eliminating his bad balls. He's not playing as many bad balls as he what he probably was earlier.
That's crucial. Like everyone's play plays good balls, but it's eliminating your bad ones.
>> [clears throat] >> Mhm, not quite I don't reckon Sammy.
It's quite interesting he chose to try his head straight up.
Well, I'm down please.
We know that's the better hand.
Ooh, measure.
See, the person on the other side of the fence near the car there has watched nearly the whole match just sitting there.
Standing there.
Over there? Yeah. Yeah, he's only been there for the last 5 minutes. No, way longer. Yeah.
You can get some hold here.
Always have to line up and down for the shot.
Well, speed was okay with the last just had to fix the track.
It's done very nicely. Can he get a little touch of the two? Two it is Sammy, two it is.
Gets to it first.
It's got to be a cap heavy. Oh, no, he doesn't.
He knows how to get back. Did enough, I reckon. It's a slot off the front to open things right up.
And holding. Got a wiki woo in that one.
It stands up for one.
Hit page 12 off the white one, five plus six ends.
Chance for Roti with the last ball to sit the shuffle through.
Got to be a chance. Mhm. Hold he has the result now.
Well played, Roti against.
You didn't need to chalk it right. you just wasted a bit of chalk.
And Bobby out chalk.
Never look like missing.
Rosco's having a look for the third.
Umpire. I've got a measure here. 18 inches, 2 foot.
I've put two on the screen so far on the scoreboard.
Oh, you have two. Good work.
Just waiting to see.
So, the photo again for Sam. Ah. Great up. I was wanting to get I was happy with one, but now I want to get a second.
I'm looking for younger people.
Who's the tall fellow? Is that Mike Pierce? Is it Yeah, yeah, yes, yes.
Tall people, let's go.
Do you want me to read them out to you?
Is there anyone else that you know that I know? Yeah, you you definitely know others. Oh, really? Yeah. But none of like there's a few few old fellows in that one. Yeah.
I'll leave it up for the people at home if they didn't see it earlier on this morning. So, remind us what this is.
This is a Victorian State side. First time they went to a bit of color in the uniform, about 1990.
Second from left in the middle row looks familiar. Second from the Did I know who that is? You've got the names there.
Yeah, second from my left in the middle row.
>> someone I know or have I just made that up?
Oh, yeah, you definitely should know him.
>> Ah.
Then I just had the message Josh. No, that's not Go back up to the photo. It's not that exciting. Rosco just got the election for three. I should know second from left.
He was actually inducted into our Hall of Fame at our legends or whatever it was at our last BB presentation night.
>> know.
I'm intrigued to the guy to left of Mike Pierce is at the middle of the back row as well. So, I didn't actually really know him.
He was one of those about three or four that I weren't real familiar with. And then the other younger fellow is the guy in the middle down the front.
Yeah, funny enough, his dad's in the photo.
There's a father-son in this photo.
It was three to us Higgins. All right, 12 a piece, so they exchanged threes.
Important and big number for us to get, tied up at 12 here.
Yeah, over 60s, that's singles final here at Club Baro. We love coming up here on the river.
Very good club.
Great club.
What's your prediction from here? We're about halfway through. Who's winning the game and why?
Oh, I still think he's going to pay it.
I think he's got enough of the momentum.
I'm still intrigued to see if I had up I pray for us to throw something. We haven't seen a real long game for the game.
>> long game. Really? Yeah, okay.
>> One.
And 16 for the game. I think he's just grouping them well enough.
>> Yeah, I feel like McGrath just had a few too many of these sort of bowls.
>> Well, I was I was going to say I feel like they've cracked into the game a bit more. You know, played a great end last end, but with three out of the four four out of the last few ends is where he's been a bit looser.
Two.
Big correction here from Ross.
Mhm.
>> [snorts] >> It's a perfect five as he was looking at it. Did two? Yeah.
>> Is it I've I saw the comment, but I don't want to look, so I don't want to spoil it. Are these you spot on? Yeah, yeah, of course he Well, um Don't say anything.
It's pretty much spot-on. I think he's missed a couple names there. I thought hang on.
I don't know. He's added the last couple.
>> [snorts] >> Clearly already gets the shot.
Sliding gets the shot.
Sticks it right next to his other bowl.
How aggressive are you in this situation?
It'll take a good shot to get something through the jack.
If he hits it he plays it right. He's pretty sure he is he is capable of If he hits that, does that poke him poke out of the head or does it just No, it just stays right there.
If he's just under the >> gets the front one he could get both or get a front one through the jack, maybe.
It's coming now. I feel like it's going too quick, but I'm not going to slide, too.
Oh.
It's all happening.
Definitely one. Could be two, though, Sammy.
Cuz I It probably felt like it was one before Ross's last one.
Oh, measure. This gives us time to put the photo up again.
Sam can fill >> Get it up. I was happy to get one.
Pretty happy to get two. I'm not leaving here without getting a third.
Who's the Whoever I'm most likely to see second from right, that's somebody I'm Are you talking about the one at the bottom or the top? No, so the middle, whoever's at the middle.
And then the two second from right and second from left.
I'll fit the middle right in there.
>> You won't get You won't get second from right, even though I know him well.
Yeah, I know him extremely well.
>> So my best chance is bottom row, each crouching down in the middle.
Yeah. Or second from left in the middle row. Yeah, he should Well, I think he was obvious, too, but maybe not to you.
It's probably one there you've even seen recently.
He was floating around at State Penat.
And you would know that name, too.
He's definitely changed significantly over the years. Yeah, I mean this was 35 years ago, so that's good.
Well, So, they're one, so they're one.
So, they're back 13-12.
All right, Do you want me to read them out or what?
We'll do it once more later, maybe when when the next measure happens, cuz for the way we're going there's going to be another measure >> or two. Well, these two don't get any measure by looks of things, and so we'll probably have another measure. Next measure, we'll throw it up, and then you can read the answers out.
Turn your eyes for a second.
Is there any more comments?
There was, but we canceled and hid them.
13-12 in favor.
Ian Page from Matuka.
>> Mhm, couple shots to aim page so far this end.
Oh, bit away from Ross.
Told us a few times, got it. Now it goes. His ball is sort of freaking shape back down towards the line as well, so that's going to be Yeah, but it's the value >> 2 m away, like plenty of room. Okay. Well, to me that seems obvious, does it not?
All right.
Last one.
Can he get in the anus of Sammy?
Good enough. Going to mark it road baits.
Aim pages look too far away again, Sammy.
He's drawing it.
Front loser.
>> [applause] >> Can you point out where my ball in the pictures please?
I'm right there. Thank you.
Yep.
So you see that shot's on, isn't it, Sammy?
He might go straight back towards it if he gets put in contact.
You know, he doesn't want to overplay it and send the touch in there with him. So actually he's given this a chance.
>> Uh he hasn't.
Well, he What did he toss out effort to be fair?
Misses under that no change other into page you won.
I think so.
I'm lucky.
One shot 14-12.
>> Paige E I I feel like he can't land one on the line. He keeps just ducking under.
There's been one he's landed on the line I can recall.
>> Oh, good enough.
Yes.
Last ball shot according to our telemarketer Ronnie Bates.
Half inch, eh? Nah, it's hard to get Bendigo out of the same when he's got a tissue stuck up his nose and he feels like he's crook or something. Like I should take that photo and put it in the in the in the screen. Do it. Throw it up.
No, no, no, don't. Don't.
Can he touch the jackpot four?
He could.
Why are we whispering?
>> I don't know, cuz it went really quiet.
He was loading up on the mat.
To me, that's a reason not >> have the right to touch the jackpot four?
Not quite.
>> No, he's not there.
It's nearly counting.
>> Oh, he's there to draw another.
Really starting to get in a groove. It's group four balls there.
The one that's furthest away, that was the one that Ross sat out.
I was just looking to see whether there's any danger with Ross in terms getting his own out.
If he wants to play white, cuz he doesn't mind playing aggressively.
>> Early Tighter if he went quicker he got the last ball through his own and ran away without the jack.
He's playing his Is it his forehand? No, his backhand. Oh, he's going for it.
He nearly got the jack on the night, Sammy.
Is that enough? Page is back what is going to stay up here for one I think because the jack rolled out.
>> Yeah, jack went under the seven.
>> Jack rolled out so the rules here will respot this and eight Page will was holding two. We'll We'll pick up one by the look of it.
Good hit.
>> [clears throat] >> State of the great for one, 15-12 and Page on a roll here.
One eight of the last 10 heads.
So his ball follows through with it. The one that disappears out of camera that stayed up at the back of back of the rink.
Shot ball one shot.
So we just had eight out of last nine >> Nine out of seven out of the last 10 What did I say? Out of the last 10?
It's been a swing.
>> I feel like that's Spain's first ball of the day.
>> Yeah, more often than not, yep.
Uh, Jay, not We feel well, what we've experienced is is the hand that Page just didn't play.
Uh, sorry. Yeah.
>> that one hold off and slice the jack.
Other hand that's getting to it and really it. The other hand we feel is a little bit kinder.
Again, at the day everyone's got different bowls, different deliveries, so I don't think there's a right or wrong.
The only one bad thing about sitting here I am, Sam.
The the the the seating next to me is sort of facing towards the other green.
And the top bars is basically I can't see Rod Bay. So, see when he puts a paddle off down from where I'm sitting at the moment.
>> [snorts] >> Rod answered it the right way. You take it from the front of the bowl to the front of the jack is how you do that.
He said front of the bowl to the front of the jack was 20 in. However, the bowl is obviously the measuring distance is from the front of the jack to the back of the bowl.
>> Yeah.
It's funny when I mark, I actually just go front of the back of the bowl, front of the jack. I give them the exact distance where the closest point will be. Yep.
If he gets these on and flops in he's got shot I reckon so. That's doesn't have to change a lot. He wasn't far away with his last.
If he's got good speed he's close Sam.
>> That is good.
Could he get a little touch on easily. See look at that hang.
What?
Look. Did he hit the front ball or not?
>> No.
>> [snorts] >> Bit of white. Chances of Ollie's iron over.
Just went a little too far at the end.
Four singles in a row to Ian Page.
16-12. 16-12.
>> And he started from the main page.
Yeah, in correction again for my hand.
Must be looking to supply something similar. He's only just over.
Drop it back a bit.
Get down to the balls.
Just throw the collected a bit there.
>> Well, little count. Still nothing right on it yet.
Well, still at least a couple, I think.
Pagey's all three. They're all the sort of on the same line, get to the same spot. That's the first one he's actually tossed out there and gone past and covered the back a little bit.
Don't think Well, I was going to say I don't think Ross is going to run at it because it's not much of a target, but still got all these.
He's going to be two down now. It hasn't quite worked out.
Two it is.
18-12.
Yeah, five hits in a row. Last uh What's that? Six shots of the game.
They exchanged threes to get to 12 each and Pagey first couple bowls.
And he can go out there to the semi.
>> See how I find all the way out? It's good enough. Page.
Can you draw another one in?
Close.
Needs a run.
Uh, it's nearly good enough, Sammy.
Oh, no, it's not, maybe.
Two down.
One down. One down.
Just going a bit.
Yeah, I think that's what he's trying to play. He sold a chair. He's trying to draw the ball.
>> That's the right shot.
>> Yep.
One of these to aim page. Only two now to become the 16 over state singles men's state singles champion.
This is an umpire. For 21, you know what's happening.
I've been thinking as well.
It's an easy. How about that?
I'll make a call.
Throw it up. Throw the photo up.
Your last chance.
Last chance.
I'm rolling with the answers for those who haven't got them yet.
Mark Pierce, back row second from right.
Chris Jaffrey, middle row third from right.
Someone's dad The The bloke The young guy down the middle, his dad is also in the photo. Which one's his dad? Uh back right.
Not a clue. And you think I'll get in the middle row second from left, but I'm not cuz I've already got the third from left. I've been looking at second this whole time.
>> Team, told you. Quickly [snorts] read all read the names out. Tell me where you're starting from.
No, Aim Page is about to start, so we'll have to wait. Oh, dude.
I've got to piss out there.
Start again from Aim Page.
Shuhaib Ross.
Ooh, he's on a good track.
Oh, I thought he was going to get through. He's on first and strike to come. Yeah.
I I love the guys who just hang it on themselves with their flight back. One is just great sound effects.
All yours, Pagey. Vaden D'Souza viewing does it.
>> All yours, Pagi.
>> Vince does it. Viewing does it.
This one's close.
>> he's here.
He's going to guts this.
>> to get the ball. Oh, not guts it. It didn't quite work out.
Nice shot.
No.
He won't He can't win at this end.
No, you're not risking trying to trial it when you've got still probably 3 ft to draw a shot. You can try and rich shot.
He hasn't quite just tossed it wide enough or far enough.
And free hit here for Ross to make two.
Ooh, should be good now.
>> work of it, but I think it'll do.
Two it is, 19-14.
>> Looks much better.
It is coming now, Sammy.
Oh. Oh. Just out, I reckon.
This is something I'll wear.
Look at this. And just turns it nicely.
>> Oh, what a ball.
You're one down.
You play the yard away to miss you get yourself to a good home, don't you?
And he's close to landing his ball for sure here. JT He is very close. What a shot. Oh, he didn't play it. What a ball.
What an a measure.
Couldn't have played any better.
So, it's going to be hard for Ross Higgins to go out the head without Jerry on his own. Exactly what's happened.
Um same shot.
>> Ross go. Ross go. Ross go.
Sort of getting down there on his back end cuz he's a left-hand lead.
Oh, no. He Well, he could probably play both ways here.
>> played forehand with his last sort of all the way around Page's. I mean, he could play more underneath on his forehand and Yeah. Swing the balls out of the head.
He's playing forehand.
He's after him.
He is after them.
Ross Higgins.
Oh. Oh.
He's one down.
>> a catastrophe. And Ian Page has got >> [snorts] >> I'd say 6-7 ft here to win the match.
Yeah, I mean, you've got to try and come up with something to to to try and score, but nearly danger was the way it was set up, it was unlikely that he'd lose the match on this end until now. Like from there, that was going to be hard for Page to make, too.
Still.
got to do it. Sometimes these are the hardest ones, Sammy.
A lot of room. The expectation should be there.
But, if you go through your pre-shot routine and just do what you normally do, All right. Has he done it?
Uh I don't give you it's not that convincing.
Well, the crowd are clapping. I think we might be playing another end, AJT.
>> Yeah, I'm not convinced it's two. I think the ball's across to the left the second shot.
Long way away.
Yeah.
Oh, he's giving him one.
Umpire.
Long measure.
Um based on Ross stepping it out, I would say that Page has got two.
The measure is not going to measure three Ross's balls here or not.
Surely the woods are for a jack higher closer than the one at the top. Yeah.
>> Mhm.
Be cool if we could have something that somehow filtered through to an on-screen graphic of the base of it.
>> [laughter] >> Like as it came up What did it say, Josh?
Two?
Ah, that's what I said.
Watching Ross step it out.
Oh, I thought it was two.
Two it is. There we go. Well done. Our 2026 men's state 16 over carnival singles champion is Ian Page from Echuca.
A mighty effort, Ross. He gets runners-up in this field. There's been some fantastic bowlers, Sammy.
Um that concludes our event, Sammy. It concludes our stream. So, a big shout-out to Josh Owen on the decks there, producing everything, getting all the angles, getting the photos up that we're talking to and all the rest of it.
Big shout-out to Murray River Council, uh Club Barham, all their staff, volunteers for the event, all their neighboring host clubs, you know, your Wakools, Gunbowers, Leitchvilles, Pyramid Hills, Cohuna Golf, Cohuna, Kerang, Kerang Golf, and Murray Downs.
>> [laughter] >> Got them all. Well done. Big thank you, everyone. And obviously those who are watching at home, we we obviously love BVTV. We love bringing you the streams.
The last 2 days have been fantastic. Uh that will be us here at BVTV. We're going to actually have about a month and a half off, Sammy, of doing any commentary and streaming.
Yeah, we'll have a rest and uh we'll be back in July for VBO. Cheers, guys. See you, guys.
I feel like I need to get away.
Club Barham That's where I want to go again.
Where I can leave my cares behind.
Take me to the river one more time.
Take me to the river >> [music] >> one more time.
Club Paradise Take me to the river one more time.
Slow flow up the river carry my body [music] away down that cool, cool water and into the end of the day.
Down that cool, cool water and into the [music] end of the day.
