Bogano: The Forgotten World of the Outer RimAdded:
Bogano is one of the few worlds in the galaxy that still feels untouched.
A remote planet hidden deep in the outer rim, covered in towering mesas, flooded wetlands, and ecosystems left almost entirely alone by galactic civilization.
Its atmosphere is breathable and its surface rich with life.
This isolation has allowed Bogano's wildlife to evolve into a delicate ecosystem.
The mesas of Bogano provide shelter from the harsh winds and shifting weather of the planet.
And hidden beneath these rocky formations lives one of the smallest creatures in this ecosystem.
The Bogling.
Boglings are small, furry, terrestrial animals native to Bogano.
Rather than trying to survive on the surface, they rely almost entirely on their burrowing.
Entire family groups live underground in vast tunnel systems and nests, where they raise their young and protect their eggs from the predators above.
Very little is actually known about their diet, but because the Bogling sits at the very bottom of Bogano's food chain, it is possible they are herbivores feeding on the local plant life, such as the cowpea and the feather ferns.
Although this is purely speculation.
Despite most of their body being covered in fur, Boglings possess bird-like feet, perfectly adapted for moving across the steep rocky cliffs of the mesas.
These feet allow them to run and maneuver quickly over the unstable terrain. Boglings survive through their social structures known as heckles.
Each heckle creates massive interconnected tunnels designed to minimize the amount of time spent on the surface.
These tunnels are often lined with traps meant to slow down predators attempting to enter the nest. A single Bogling is capable of digging up to 5 m every day.
And while small, they are protective. If cornered, a bogling will willingly risk its own life to defend the young or other members of its heckle.
But despite all this, they are still constantly hunted. [music] One of the bogling's primary predators is the bograt. These carnivorous creatures are native to Begano and are built almost entirely [music] for hunting in confined environments.
The bograt's most recognizable feature is its large singular red eye. But despite its intimidating appearance, this eye gives the creature extremely limited vision.
To compensate, bograts have evolved with two sensitive feelers on the front of their face, possibly used to detect movement and navigate underground tunnels.
All four of their limbs are equipped with massive talons capable of digging and tearing apart prey. Bograts prefer to hunt in packs rather than relying on their speed alone. They surround and overwhelm their targets through coordinated attacks. Their bodies are covered in thick hardened skin making them unusually durable and resistant to most forms of energy weapons.
In some cases, the bograt doesn't hunt alone. It has formed a relationship with another species native to Begano, the splox.
Splox are large omnivorous quadrupedal insects that travel and hunt in packs across the wetlands and maces of Begano.
They possess a large blue exoskeleton along with a pair of wings that allow [music] them to move rapidly between the rocky terrain and swamp regions of the planet.
Beneath their eyes sit massive sharp fangs capable of tearing through prey and tunnel walls alike.
But what makes the splox especially dangerous is the way they cooperate during their attacks.
When threatened, a splox can contort its body into unusual defensive positions that make it significantly harder to hit. While one distracts a threat, another splox can move in from behind to attack.
The species has developed a mutual hunting relationship with the bog rat.
Splox will enter bogling tunnel systems and intentionally disturb their nests.
This forces the adult boglings to flee to the surface directly into the [music] waiting pack of bog rats.
Once the adults are driven away or eaten, the splox will burrow deeper into the abandoned nests and consume the [music] eggs left behind.
Among the wetlands and cliffs of Bogano lives another unusual creature, the zool. Zools are agile reptilian creatures perfectly adapted to the rocky terrain surrounding the maces.
Their webbed feet possesses a natural adhesive that allows them to scale sheer cliff faces with ease.
Unlike most reptiles, however, the zool prefers cold and windy environments.
The species possesses extreme temperature sensitivity causing them to become slow and sluggish when exposed to warmer conditions.
Because of this, the zool spends most of its life >> [music] >> hidden within the cold the shadows of the maces wherever possible.
The waterways and swamps of this planet are home to large schools of algae-eating parafish. These silverfish survive by consuming the algae found throughout Bogano's aquatic ecosystems.
But the species reproduces rapidly and eventually entire schools will completely exhaust the local algae supply. Once the food source disappears, the massively overpopulated schools begin to die off.
As their bodies decompose, they drastically lower the pH levels of the surrounding water making it highly acidic. Over time, this acidic water burns directly into Bogano's surface creating the sinkholes found throughout the planet.
At the very top of Bogano's food chain sits its apex predator, the octo.
Octos primarily prey upon bog rats. They possess three bright green eyes and an enormous mouth lined with sharp teeth.
The octo's tongue can extend up to 8 m in length, allowing them to instantly latch onto prey from surprising distances.
Small prey are swallowed almost immediately, while larger prey are dragged inward and crushed between the Oggdo's jaws.
Their thick hide is highly resistant to damage, making Oggdos dangerous even against armed opponents.
And among the species exists an even deadlier sub-variant, the Oggdo Bogdo.
This rare sub-species is identifiable by its different coloration and larger build.
Its hide is so durable that is considered highly resistant even to lightsabers, making it one of the most dangerous creatures on Bogano.
The final known species of Bogano is also the oldest, the Binog.
These enormous dragon-like creatures are believed to live for thousands of years.
But, despite their immense lifespan, Binogs reproduce only once during their entire lifetime. This incredibly slow breeding cycle has pushed the species dangerously close to extinction. Binogs spend most of their lives resting motionless across the landscape. When sensing danger, they will stand up, move a short distance away before returning to rest once again. While their tails are reptilian, the upper half of their bodies is covered in a thick brown fur.
The ancient Zeffonian species who once visited Bogano appeared to take a particular interest in the Binogs, but very little is known about why. Bogano remains one of the rare planets in the galaxy where nature still exists mostly undisturbed. Its distance from major galactic routes has protected its ecosystems for generations, allowing species like the Bogling, Oggdo, and Binog to survive in isolation. But, even here the galaxy still manages to leave its scars. Poachers occasionally travel to Bogano to capture Bowglings, which fetch extremely high prices on the black market.
