[00:00:07]The Football Kenya Federation has dominated headlines for all the wrong reasons over the past 3 weeks following a dramatic fallout within its National Executive Committee.

[00:00:21]A section of the NEC members moved to {quote} and {unquote} suspend Federation President Hussein Mohamed and CEO Dennis Gicheru over alleged financial impropriety linked to CHAN insurance funds amounting to some 42 million.

[00:00:39]The move has triggered open warfare within the Federation.

[00:00:43]Press conferences, counter statements, and accusations have flown in every direction within both camps fighting to control the narrative.

[00:00:53]But beyond the noise, serious questions remain.

[00:00:58]First, FIFA has already stepped in demanding evidence, meeting minutes, and NEC resolutions.

[00:01:07]That is not a public relations exercise.

[00:01:11]FIFA's eventual position could shape the future of the dispute.

[00:01:16]It is also worth noting that Hussein Mohamed quickly traveled to the FIFA Congress in Vancouver, Canada, where he met top football officials, including FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

[00:01:35]Meanwhile, the faction allied to McDonald Mariga has petitioned the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission EACC to investigate the alleged misuse of funds.

[00:01:54]Another revelation before the Parliament sports committee raised even more concerns.

[00:02:01]The Mariga led camp claimed some national team trips were never ratified by the NEC.

[00:02:13]And on whose authority did some officials travel who also sit in NEC?

[00:02:18]What is clear is this.

[00:02:20]The infighting is no longer about football.

[00:02:24]It is about power.

[00:02:25]It is about control and competing interests while the game itself suffers.

[00:02:32]Three scenarios now appear plausible.

[00:02:36]One, the Hussein wing survives and sidelines its rivals.

[00:02:42]Two, investigations uncover wrongdoing forcing Hussein Mohamed to step aside and opening the door for the Mariga led faction to run the federation.

[00:02:55]Or three, FIFA steps in and pushes for a normalization committee.

[00:03:02]All these three are possible outcomes.

[00:03:05]But one thing is certain.

[00:03:07]Kenyan football is bigger than individuals and factions, especially with the Kenya preparing to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations for the very first time in her history.
