Global voices welcome new vision for bilateral ties between China-USAñadido:
Well, I think that terminology actually is a very constructive one that we have to figure out ways of dealing with what is certainly going to be a competitive relationship >> [clears throat] >> in many areas, but also to figure out areas within that overall competition where our two countries can a work together on common goals, be managed issues that we have differences on and see me very candid and trusting of what one another says. We China specifically says what its thoughts are.
We say what ours are and we try to work out whatever differences are in a constructive way rather than a confrontational way. We are partners, not rivals. That is the fundamental framework. I think it's we are we are at basic principles which need to be enunciated and clearly embraced which will create the foundation for that stability and constructive cooperation going forward. The phrase constructive strategic stability relationship is very significant. It is closer to competitive coexistence with guardrails.
For China stability helps protect growth investment confidence export markets technology access where still possible and a peaceful external environment. It will also present China as a defender of open trade and global stability benefiting the global south countries including ASEAN.
For the US, better trade ties can bring lower inflationary pressure cheaper imports and fewer tariff distortions that will greatly benefit Trump's voters and US companies.
