[00:00:08]In this video, we're going to talk about measurement of mass, weight and time.

[00:00:12]Mass is the measure of the quantity of matter in a body. Mass does not change from one place to another and it is scalar quantity. Should be noted that the SI unit of mass is the kilogram.

[00:00:22]What is the instrument for measuring mass? Number one instrument is the beam balance. Now this beam balance simply compare an unknown mass with a known or standard mass and the instrument you can see it being displayed on the screen.

[00:00:35]The second instrument we use to measure mass is the electric balance. You simply place a substance to be measured on top of the electric balance and it gives you a direct reading. It's actually more accurate and is common in our laboratory. Let's talk about the characteristics of mass. It is constant everywhere. It cannot be negative. It is measured using balance either being balance or electric balance. It is independent of gravity. Let's talk about measurement of weight. And you should be noticed that weight is a force with which the earth attract a body towards itself. So weight depends on gravity and it changes from one place to another.

[00:01:11]The SI unit of weight is Newton just like force. Now how do we calculate weight? The formula for weight is mass time acceleration due to gravity. Just the way the formula for force is mass time acceleration which is ma. The formula for weight is mass m * g which is mass time acceleration due to gravity and the unit again is actually newton.

[00:01:34]What is the instrument for measuring weight? It's actually measured using the spring balance. The spring balance actually measure weight by extension of the spring. Let's talk about the difference between mass and weight. Now mass is the quantity of matter in a body while weight is the force of gravity acting on a body. Mass is a scalar quantity while weight is actually a vector quantity. Mass is constant everywhere while weight varies from place to place depending on the gravitational field strength. Mass is measured in kilogram. Weight is measured in new. It should be noted that mass is measured using beam balance or even electronic balance while weight is measured using spring balance. Mass does not depend on gravity. Weight however depend on gravity. Mass can never be zero. However, weight can be zero in space where gravity is actually negligible. Mass is a fundamental quantity and weight is a derived quantity. Let's talk about measurement of time. Now time is the intera between two events and the SI unit of time is in seconds. We know that there are other units such as minutes and hours. Let's talk about the instruments used to measure time. Now the first one we're going to talk about is the clock and watch. They are used for ordinary time measurement and you know that the measurement accuracy is about 1 seconds.

[00:02:47]Stopwatch is used in the laboratory and spot for accurate timing and the measurement accuracy is per 0.1 seconds.

[00:02:54]Now however the digital type has 0.01 seconds as their measurement accuracy.

[00:02:59]The digital type is actually be displayable. And the last one we're going to talk about is the electronic timer which provide a very accurate measurement in experiment. The electronic camera has a measurement accuracy of 0.001 seconds. Let's talk about common error in measurement and no measurement is 100% accurate. Some common error include paralless error which involve wrong eye positioning while taking read from the instrument.

[00:03:33]We also have the human error. These are mistakes made by human being during what? Recording. Instrumental error can also occur due to faulty instrument.
