In long-running film franchises, characters often undergo significant moral and thematic evolution, with protagonists transitioning from their original roles (such as street racers) into more complex, superhero-like personas that reflect broader themes of family, respect, and personal growth, while maintaining core character traits that connect the franchise's narrative arc.

The Fate of the Furious | The Past and the Curious Ep 8Added:
Hello everyone.
>> Hi everybody.
>> Welcome to Fate of the Curious.
>> Okay. Um, so we have to establish that at the beginning of the movie before we started watching, you were like, I'm not going to comment on anything, >> right?
>> Which I think was for the best.
>> Um, >> now, and you told me when we started, you said, >> Jesse, every time you say it's going to get crazy, don't say it's going to get crazy this time. And about halfway through watching, you were like, I understand why it gets crazier every time.
>> Crazier every time. Because, you know, I I always got to you got to tie it back to the first one, it went from street racing and >> uh I guess if you look at the second movie, running money to a boat, >> drug running.
>> Yeah, drug running. And now we're stopping World War II.
>> Yep.
>> The only way we know how, by recruiting some guy.
I I must stress again, >> he's no longer some guy. He's no longer some guy. What?
>> Who? Who is he then?
>> He's Dominic Tedto.
>> Damn right.
>> Damn right. He's a superhero.
>> They're superheroes now.
>> He's a superhero. And that's why it's so funny that the um really thrust of all of these movies as we start to get into it is people in the world acknowledging what you just said.
>> Well, they have the most powerful superpower known to man. $100 million.
Oh, I was going to say uh bulletproof, impervious to fire.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Well, that but they they also >> unbreakable skin.
>> Yes. A couple a couple of steel.
>> I mean, I'm talking about a superpower that's real and happens in our in our actual reality. Yes. Which is having $100 million to do whatever you want with.
>> Um why did I write this car is on fire?
>> Oh, it was the the racing at the beginning.
>> Right. Right. Okay. So, I did want to talk about that. Uh, yeah. So, I mean, a couple things I wrote down is like, but stuff we've already talked about before.
They're going to be doing stunts in this. He's like bailing out of car. He bailed out of like four cars in this and was fine.
>> Yeah. He's learned. He's He's done it so much.
>> Yeah. He knows.
>> He's got like skin now. Yeah. His body's adapted.
>> Yeah. I also wrote already branding.
There was noticeably more branding in this one than some of the previous.
>> Even at the very end, I noticed when they were all hanging out at their uh you know, once a movie party.
>> Yeah.
>> That uh there was Coke bottles everywhere.
>> Yeah. Well, Coca-Cola. That's true. Cuz at the beginning there was a can >> in >> Oh, yeah. They used He's Yeah, he's drinking the Coke and then he's like, you know, you could use that to do this ridiculous thing that's going to help me win the race.
>> Yeah. You don't know, but you don't know but later it's going to win the race.
>> This is really important.
>> Yeah. Yeah.
>> Like we used to do this all the time.
Like make what is essentially a car grenade. Okay. Cool. Dom.
>> Yeah. That opening race was kind of awesome because for a couple reasons. We don't get another one. We don't get like another race in this movie. Right.
Right. Because so they have to be like, "See, it's still Fast and Furious, right? We're still racing cars." Because once in a while they lose the plot there and they're just sort of like, "Yeah, we're about stopping a nuclear war."
which this movie is about. But, you know, it's they they have to they have to squeeze the the racing in.
>> Yeah. I mean, they there's there's some things that we have noted every single time and they continue to do it. One, butt shots. Two, four girls for every guy. Three, Dom is going to go to your city and rep that city and you're going to have some girl throw down the flag or whatever and there's going to be a race and it's going to be like this race represents X place. Yeah. And >> so in this case it was Cuba >> and they were there I guess the premise is they were there for the honeymoon >> of Dom and Letty.
>> Yeah.
>> And also Dom's cousin lives there.
>> I guess so.
>> Never mentioned again.
>> Never mentioned again. And honestly Dom probably has cousins around the world.
>> Yeah, that's probably true.
>> And uh yeah, it's he has to, you know, race the guy >> who has the fastest car on the island which makes him the most dangerous for some reason.
>> For some reason. And everyone's like, "THAT'S THE FAST CAR GUY."
>> POSSIBLY a lone shark. We We're not really sure.
>> Yeah. Well, it's interesting because he's like, "Oh, you know, you got to repay your debts to his cousin."
>> And then the guy is like, "Yeah, he's going to keep paying or whatever."
>> And then Tom's like, "What do you mean by that?"
>> Like, "He gave you the car, man." Like that kind of thing.
>> And so that's why he has to race him because it's about respect. Which of course it is because once he beats him, he he's going to give Dom his car and he's like, "No, man. Your respect is enough." which to me says >> he has grown into his role as a superhero.
>> Yes.
>> He's now he's now better than just being a street racer.
>> Yes. Well, I also like that he didn't just solve his problem with money where I was thinking I'm just like Dom, you have like $100 million. Like couldn't you just like pay the guy's car?
>> Technically, he did cuz at the end when he destroyed his cousin's car by driving it backwards on fire.
>> Yes, he did give him his new car.
>> He did give him that beautiful car which is probably a lot of money. And when you're Dom, that doesn't matter to you.
>> Doesn't matter, right? Family comes first, which we'll talk about later in the movie.
>> It's a lot easier to to love your family when you've got millions of dollars.
>> That's true. That's so true. Um, also I do want to bring up he's a man of the people again. Like it was a great call back to that moment in the first movie where he's like working the crowd and like everybody loves Dom. Yeah. Like and she even says um the villain of the movie says like the Robin Hood thing is really doing it for you, you know? like he very much is like establishing that Robin Hood style persona for himself.
>> They've been building that for the last few movies.
>> Oh yeah, absolutely.
>> And I'm sure they tried to do that with the first couple, but he's very clearly just a criminal. I will say the shot of him where he like he rolls out of the car and he's on the street and he wins the race. They could have had big booty ladies. They could have had his his boys running up. No, >> it's the kids. The kids are >> which again establishes him as like of the people. It's normal people run up to normal people. I love that in the end he like wins the race going backwards by just like a nose and then he sees the people HE'S LIKE, "OH SHIT." AND HE HAS to like turn the car, fly it off the cliff, they broke that they blew up that car.
>> There's a moment you mentioned and I thought it was really fun. Yeah.
>> There's a lot of shots that are filmed very similar to the 3.5 thing when they were in uh >> Yeah, that's Oh, I forgot about that.
You're right.
>> Costa Rica.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That's true. And I I love I love that you can spot that stuff where you're like, "Ah, they're filming it like this." Which is honestly pretty fun because it shows the >> the lighting is similar to that. And also the way that they shoot it with like the flowing drapes or whatever.
>> Yeah. Honestly, it's crazy to say this now that we are eight movies in.
>> Mhm.
>> And it's Fast and Furious. This isn't like, you know, this isn't the most uh prestigious franchise.
>> What are you talking about, Jesse? This is the most prestigious film franchise in cinematic history. But with all of that said, >> I'm not joking.
>> The continuity.
>> No, agree with me. It's the most prestigious.
>> I You're correct. You're correct.
Obviously, you're correct. Help me.
There is a level of continuity and care for these films. While they are insane, >> they are like, "Oh, remember this character, bringing them back to do this. Oh, this person does this. Oh, this shot, we're going to shoot it like that. Oh, we're going to do this thing."
They consistently do it in a way that shows me someone probably Vin Diesel loves this franchise.
>> Yeah. And I mean he is a producer on it, right? So like basically he's >> this is 100% his baby. He >> is his baby. And I think it just he just loves working with these people, right?
Like it's it's >> except for The Rock. I hear they do not like each other at all.
>> Really?
>> That's what I heard.
>> Oh, that's too bad.
>> I think it's cuz either this movie or the last one, they fell out hard.
>> Oh, that's too bad. Yeah.
>> Um, well, you know, it's it's funny because it's like it's like Sam Ramy.
So, like if you uh Now, hold give me a second. Hold on. Let me let me make that let me make the argument. So, um I've been watching a lot of uh or I watched that there's a Red Letter Media uh video where it's like they rank all the Sam Ramy movies and they were saying like I noticed all of these random actors just come back for all of Sam Ramy's movies.
like this guy, this person in this who had like a bit part is like this person and this and he like keeps coming bringing her back.
>> Same thing with Christopher Nolan.
>> Yeah, exactly. And so it must be like that kind of thing where just like The Rock just really or sorry um um Vin Diesel just really likes working with >> these people and they're just really fun. So he just keeps bringing them back and keeps bringing them back.
>> He keeps bringing on new people, too.
>> That's great. I love that.
>> Yeah. Yeah. This is honestly I forgot how much I enjoyed this movie.
>> Mhm.
>> I really like this one.
>> Mhm. For sure. It is uh again not as grounded and fun as five. I think that is like the peak, >> right?
>> But >> I liked five a lot. I really liked five >> considering where we're at.
>> Yes.
>> This one, you know, highly enjoyable.
>> It was good. I had a good time. I had a good I had a good time. Um I I also said uh right. So then after that sequence of them of of Lety and Dom where where >> Let me get Hob's backstory.
>> Yeah. Well, also it's important because they set up the whole thing where Dom is like, "Well, you know, maybe how would you feel about having a kid?" Yeah. You know, uh, and then Hobbs, we get, we find out Hobbs's first name, which I don't think they'd ever said before.
It's Luke. Luke Hobbs.
>> Luke.
>> Luke. Um, Luke, I am your partner.
>> Um, >> that's that's the next movie, I guess.
>> That's the next movie, I guess. So anyway, um, now we get and I was saying it feels like they are trying to emphasize that the team wants to transition to being normies. Like they really don't want to be doing this thing anymore. But unfort you guys, you got three more movies.
>> Yeah. Damn.
>> Yeah. Uh, and so we got The Rock doing the haka with his daughter's soccer team. They they like he like doesn't want to do it anymore.
I think all of them >> are doing what probably anyone who has been stuck in this world since 2001.
We've fought so many people. WE'VE ALMOST DIED.
>> KILLED SO many people.
>> Yeah. And hilariously, >> Yeah.
>> This is so awkward to say because Brian is not present.
>> Yes.
>> In universe.
>> Yes. He went off with Mia to have his family and do what we've been saying they should have been doing the last two movies.
>> Yes.
>> Which now he is. And I think everyone else has that sort of oh man, we should do that.
>> Yeah.
>> But they're caught up in it. They can't get out.
>> They can't get out. Well, I mean, well, you know, I mean, Charliss the says it.
She's like, you know, family isn't what you love. It's that time when you're racing. It's the excitement. It's the adrenaline. You know, they they all they all miss it. She goes out of her way to poo poo family frequently.
>> You know, that's the antithesis of Dom of of Dom before he becomes evil Dom.
Um, then we smash cut to the botched Berlin job, right?
>> And I have to point this out.
>> Speaking of smash cut.
>> Yeah, speaking of Yeah, very true. So, I got to point this out. Tez does this thing where he's like, "Check this out."
Opens the releases a wrecking ball with a giant smiley face. I was going to say with a smiley face on it >> on it to smash other cars. He kills probably 14 people.
>> More than that >> and they're all like, "TAKE THAT, GUYS."
>> Because there's cars coming at them.
>> Yeah.
>> They kill those. Then when more cars show up, it swings back and it destroys those cars.
>> He kills them. They're dead.
>> People have died. Yes.
>> We're Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Ted Ted's just just He's just killing people. We're just We're fullon murdering now. Um, but it's fine because I guess you know it's it's a uh whatever kind of thing.
Superhero movie. It's a superhero movie.
Um, then do well but also Dom is given this you know evidence. We don't know what it is and >> Yeah. When he's when he's in Cuba, Charlie Thein shows up with dreads.
>> Yeah.
>> And she's like, "Dom, you're going to work for me." And she shows him something.
>> White girl with dreads energy. Honestly, >> the whole time. I must stress for those of you who are over on Patreon and watched the movie Yeah.
>> with us.
>> Yeah.
>> The amount of times Octo was like, >> "WHAT IS HE WHAT WHY IS HE DOING THIS?
WHAT DOES SHE HAVE ON HIM? WHAT is >> beautiful?
It was a lot until the until the reveal.
Every time he was doing anything, YOU'RE LIKE, WHY TOM? WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS?"
>> It's true. I was I was very torn emotionally. It's a It's a lot to see uh to see Dominic Terretto do this kind of thing to the people he calls the family.
Yeah. Yeah, evil Dom. Shin Dom. Um, the thing is Hobbs does this job.
>> Hobbs does this jobs and it's botched.
Dom sideswipes him during the job.
>> Steals the uh steals.
>> Yeah.
>> And then The Rock is detained.
>> Yes.
>> But it was the you and then they're like the US government has disavowed you because you botched the job >> cuz you got cuz they were in Berlin. So they're in a different country.
>> But it's like they're the ones that asked them to do this in the first place.
>> Well, yeah. That's It's almost like you're saying the US government >> I guess >> is uh not great.
>> Yeah. Yeah.
>> Interesting.
>> Yeah. Which I am. I'm saying that openly.
>> And uh so yeah, he ends up going to prison. And Mr. Nobody and his new partner, Little Nobody.
>> Yeah.
>> Who is Clint Eastwood's kid, I think.
>> Eastwood's son. Yeah.
>> And so they um are like, "You can come work for me. I'll wipe your record clean." He's like, "No, Mr. Nobody. I'm going to get out this my own." And Mr. Nobody's like, "No, you're not."
>> Yeah. But then, and this is literally the only note I wrote for the next bit, is when he goes to prison, his guy across from him >> is Shaw.
>> It's Shaw.
>> And I just >> I just wrote the note Stathithm and the rock rule.
>> And I stand by that. The two of them together.
>> Highly enjoyable.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It's Yeah. Well, okay.
I also love the giant plot hole of Shaw getting the stun baton and shocking like the light in front of his cell and then that opens every cell. Yeah, it's classic. Also, I did mention this in the watch through. I think that's the Guardians of the Galaxy prison set. I I could be imagining this, but I would love to know if it's either that prison set or in the second uh Deadpool movie when the kid goes to the like mutant detention facility. feels more like that.
>> It might be that one, too. So, I could be mixing them up, but it's one of those two.
>> I think it's that because I'm trying to figure out what >> Guardians of the Galaxy prison. There's only the one from the first movie that doesn't look like it.
>> But it's been a long time since I've seen that one, but I might be confusing it with the second Deadpool movie where the kid might remember they sent him to like the mutant detention facility or whatever. And I think it's that, but anyway. Um, >> yeah. So, they break out game I wrote Game of Thrones reunion.
>> I wrote Game of Thrones reunion. I genuinely because this is 2017 I feel like at the it was at the height of Game of Thrones.
>> Was this height of Game of Thrones? Was this >> And they just kind of So, and they either just started really delving into uh the bearded guy's character on Game of Thrones >> cuz I know that guy cuz he's in season 8 though, as we've established, the only season of Game of Thrones that I've seen.
>> He is He's He's a pretty big character.
>> Yeah.
>> And the last half of the series. So >> yeah, and it's interesting they got him and they also got like >> it's funny to me that clearly Game of Thrones was getting people work, >> but also >> extremely >> interestingly >> that all dried up real quick. I wonder why.
>> Yeah, >> I wonder what happened at the end of that series.
>> Yeah. Well, I mean, I thought it was fine, but also I have no cont like I said, I have no context for the rest of that series, so it seemed fine to me.
>> Anyway, Dom is a superhero. I keep writing it. It's just so funny how like impervious to damage he is.
>> Yeah. And we get a reveal from Charlie's Theren's character who is Cipher who is a hacker. Like the world's greatest hacker.
>> I thought Ramsay was the world's greatest. No, no, no. You you buffoon.
You [ __ ] idiot.
>> Anonymous is scared of her.
>> Anonymous. That that made me wse a little bit. Oh, no, no, no. Wait, I gotta mention. Okay. Um, they keep doing a thing where it's like, "Oh, you think Dom is invincible?" Well, Hobbs is getting shot with rubber bullets and he's fine >> and he's fine and he's grabbing the shotgun and beating the >> He then turns the rubber bullets on the guys in armor and they go down.
>> Yeah, they go down instantly while wearing helmets.
>> His body is the armor.
>> Yes, it's true. Under armor on Under Armour. Check them out now. Use The Rock for 10% off. Um, I wrote Hobbs and Shaw fanfix. Why did I write this?
>> Uh, you wrote that because every time Hobs and Shaw were on screen together.
>> Yeah.
>> When they talked to each other, you were like, "There has to be fanfix."
>> There's got Hey, uh, somebody in the comments, tell me how many AO3 hits we get for Hobs and Shaw. There must be a lot of them.
>> It's It's an enemies to lovers.
>> There is a moment. So, you were calling that much early on, but the moment where they are in the shop later on >> Yeah. and they have to like repair the cars together and they have like a whole moment where they're like giving each other [ __ ] and then >> it's almost like I'm like are they going to kiss? Like it's >> they're very close and they smile and they're like okay and then when we get the fake out of Shaw's death >> Hobs spoiler um yes but >> spoiler >> it's true it's true >> spoiler on this watch along podcast.
>> Yeah. Uh I wrote rock oneliner contest.
It feels like they tried to jam the most oneliners for this dude into the smallest space as possible. It's like pure concentrated oneliners for this guy. Anyway, >> everyone has them. It isn't just him.
It's like across. In fact, the only person that doesn't seem to have oneliners a lot is Vin Diesel. He has one at the end, but >> he's got a few. He's got a few and I'm glad they did give them to I mean, you know, he's his are more like serious.
>> Yeah. Yeah.
>> Um and Roman, of course, always that's like his bit, though. Yeah. Okay. So, yes, Charlies Theren, the ultimate hacker, and she wants to steal God's eye.
>> Well, she wants to full-on massive plan that involves >> taking the EMP.
>> Yes. Getting God's Eye.
>> Getting God's Eye, then getting >> nuclear missiles, >> right? And then she's going to use God's Eye. Yes.
>> To to track down and keep a watch on Dom. Then Dom is going to use the EMP to blast the Russian facility to take a sub that has the nukes that she can then use to threaten the world if they ever get I guess her plan is she's like the the governments of the world they're bad people so I'm going to make them pay for being bad >> okay based but maybe don't use the nukes to threaten to kill a bunch of people but anyway >> but but all like that nuke it they establish from her that she is the one behind everything for the last two movies and this one.
>> Right.
>> So the whole Shaw one and Shaw 2 plots were entirely her.
>> Mhm.
>> And in those movies Oh, it was about God's I was about to say what was her objective? It was about God's eye. So no matter what, she was trying to get God's eye the entire time.
>> Those Yeah. Yeah. And the nightshade thing, the the EMP thing was from that was from the one with Owen. With Owen Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So she >> Okay. So she's been trying to do this for a I like You know what?
>> I just put that together.
>> I like that that these are connected.
>> Yeah.
>> I like that it's like Oh, yeah. No, since we just watched that, we know what when I watched this in theaters, years had gone by and a lot of these connections I didn't pick up on. But back toback watching, I'm like, "Oh, >> yeah, they really were doing their homework on these." That makes >> sense. They put it They strung it together. I wrote, "What is happening with five exclamation points?" But I don't remember what that was in context to.
>> What you wrote that when uh when he goes to get the nukes?
>> Yeah.
>> Uh and they use the the zombie horde of robotic cars.
>> Right. Right, right, right, right, right, right.
>> So, they're in New York. Basically, she sends Dom to New York to go get a Russian >> a nuclear football.
>> Yeah, nuclear football from like a Russian >> I thought we were still on analog footballs, but I guess we advanced.
Sorry, you have to make that joke again cuz I thought it was really funny.
>> No, I'm so sorry. It's not mutant league, by the way. Shots of >> mutant league football. Bones Justice.
>> Oh my god.
>> The main the main star. And so he goes there and she helps him by basically hacking into every computerized car in the city, which we were talking about during the movie was a real thing people thought was going to happen. So they just threw into this movie and she makes a zombie horde of cars that crashes into the limo that the dignitaries into. And during that moment, you said when you said it got crazy, I didn't know we'd get to hear. And here we are. It's absolutely a thing we The crash is incredible looking, but it's insane. But then the reason you said multiple exclamation points >> is because immediately after that, Dom shows up looking like a character from, you know, like I don't even know, Payday. He drills.
>> Yeah. He looks like he looks like the character from one of the Avengers movies where they're like they stop him at the beginning. Yes.
>> He's got the mask on. I don't remember who it is. It's the guy who who uh it's Frank Gill, I think, is the actor.
Crossbones.
>> Okay. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
>> And so they he gets the the codes and then they chase him down and they do a whole like hook shot into his car and he breaks free.
>> Yeah.
>> And then the reason you freaked out is cuz then he pulls out his gun and blast Shaw.
>> That's right. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah. Yeah. He >> couldn't believe it. Yeah. And then you thought he was going to kill Letty.
>> Yeah. Well, I knew he wasn't going to kill Letty because I know that deep down, even though Dom is evil now, he would not shoot Letty because that's his one true love. That's >> But what we did not know, >> yes, >> is that in a few scenes before when his car was breaking down and he had this like meeting with Helen Mirren for some reason, Helen Mirren shows up.
>> Now, why would Helen Mirren be there doing a cochney accent? I'm sure we can't ever figure out why she would be doing that.
>> Doesn't make any sense.
>> It doesn't make any sense. Why would she be doing that? So the whole thing is Dom set up a deal with the mom cuz that Helmiran is Shaw's mom >> and that will pay off later. Yeah.
>> And so he's not really dead.
>> I I wrote Razor branding which is really funny that Teser laptop. Damn right.
>> Which is so funny to me, but like maybe we're giving them free promotion right now so they have to pay.
>> You know what? Yeah. Do you guys got laptops?
>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Check them out. Well, maybe.
>> Only if they pay us.
>> Oh, maybe if they pay us. Um things got complicated. Oh, that's with the um the baby. So, it turns out >> Dom has a son uh with >> the cop. So, I >> the Brazilian cop.
>> The Brazilian cop. I completely forgot they were involved. And it seems like the baby is young. So, like not a lot of time has passed.
>> No, not I mean they just between the last movie and this movie, they're still on their honeymoon.
>> It's only 9 months, maybe a little more.
Well, so she said that when she found out she was pregnant when he went to go save Lety, >> right?
>> So then nine months later, she has a kid. The only question I have is when she was jumping out the window with Shaw, did she already have the baby or was she still pregnant at the time?
>> Probably not. She already had the baby, right?
>> She must have already had the baby. So, >> so no time has passed between >> 6, seven, and 8. 6, seven, and eight are are like very close together.
>> So, it's like Yes. So, >> at least we'll say one year has passed between six and eight.
>> So, this kid is like he's like a year old. He's like really young. Okay.
>> Yeah. He's he's still a baby, but he's like, you know, in that stage where they're like, he's 12 months where he can react to what Shaw is saying.
>> He can have he wave his CGI hand. You can have a conversation with Shaw. Yes.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Um Yeah. Oh, I wrote Make Dom miserable.
This is just like misery porn for Dom.
It's horrible. It's It's just awful.
Everything bad's happening. His son is being threatened. They shoot his They >> kill her lover in front of him.
>> They kill her.
>> They execute her. It's crazy.
>> Which is convenient because two wives would have been a problem.
>> Yeah, that would have been a little a throppple with Dom and the cop lady.
That would have been a little much.
>> Although bold. It would have been a bold choice >> if he was like, "You know what? I'm gonna go back to my wife and my other wife."
>> Yeah. Uh I wrote most oneliners in a single movie. Uh oh, and even even Cipher gets some one letter. They're still under warranty is the one I wrote down.
>> Oh, the one she's like, "And I'm the alligator."
>> Yeah. Yeah.
>> Or whatever she said.
>> Yeah. Yeah. When Oh, god. Um Oh, I wrote what was what did he call uh Hobbs's or Hobbs called Shaw's mustache? something a biscuit brush.
>> He called it like a like he called it like a scruffy biscuit or something.
>> I said biscuit brush or something like that. It was something like >> I was like I didn't know what that is.
What is he trying to tell this man?
>> Yeah. Anyway, um no it's it goes crazy.
So now so now she has the nuclear codes.
>> Yes. And then they >> well she she so she sends Dom to a Russian separatist base in >> they say they they establish that >> separatists cuz they're not attacking Russians >> cuz they're not they're not attacking Russians. They're separatists. So also if we kill them there's going to be no repercussions and you don't have to feel bad about it. Oh wait wait wait wait.
>> Also they have nukes and a sub.
>> We got to we got Yeah. How did they get that?
>> Cuz separatists be getting >> Wait a minute. If the separatists have nukes, wouldn't that cause like a whole bunch of problems? It would be a problem. That would be like a huge problem. Well, hold on. Wait, wait, hold on. There's another thing I have to touch on. I love that scene where they go to the toy shop and they have the like >> By the way, when you say toy shop, you mean the collections of cars in the back of a fish packing place?
>> The fish packing place that apparently this organization has um acquired from like seized from drug dealers and things like that. That's why they're all crazy cars. the one tank.
>> The one tank. But I love how I'm sorry.
Can we play Are we allowed to play clips on the podcast?
>> We can try >> because if you can please edit in the the way that Ludicrous says in this scene in the movie where he's like, >> "See, the arm is developing machines like this that soldiers can drive from a mile away so they can stay safe and alive."
>> I would not be surprised if the military paid to have that in there. We're developing autonomous vehicles so that soldiers will be safe when we're killing each other. You would think that that line would play an important role later in some way where it doesn't like the car maybe it explodes and then you realize they were never in it like that kind of thing. But they never he the man drives it.
>> HE DRIVES IT BUT HE HAS NO AUTONOMOUS ANYTHING.
>> It does like shoot for him or whatever.
I think >> I guess >> the turret like shoots for him.
>> But it's so it's so obviously I wouldn't be surprised if the government paid for it where it's just like yeah that that's from the US military. It's an autonomous vehicle where people can drive it and not have to worry about getting hurt.
>> Speaking of military, >> yes.
>> Uh this scene where Dom is trying to like, you know, hack the sub for Cipher >> and they show up to to to stop him and infiltrate the base. I must stress >> they are taking on Russian, I guess, separatists, but military forces.
>> Yeah.
>> The only people with any real training in that are little nobody. and Hobs who are there.
>> Everyone else is a street racer, BUT THEY'RE LIKE AT ONE POINT Roman blasts four dudes >> on jet skis, >> snowmobiles >> or snowmobiles, but in like a way that is John Wick style.
>> Jesse.
>> Yes, >> you forget.
>> Oh, they're superheroes.
>> No. Oh, >> they have the most powerful superpower of all.
>> My bad. Yeah, they probably took that money and trained or something. But they genuinely watching them have any they don't have any of real training like they haven't been doing this for a long time.
>> Well, there's one shot where you can see Hobbs and Little Nobody do this whole like military maneuver to get but the rest of them they're getting shot at and they're like panicking and I was like okay that's real but also that is insane because it means that they are so not ready for this.
>> The only people like you said the only people who actually in my opinion are qualified to do this are Hobbs and Shaw.
>> Yes.
>> It's like they should be in a movie together. And admittedly, when it comes down to it in this one, the ones doing the real like gunfu >> Yeah.
>> are Hobs and Shaw.
>> Oh, I wrote car fu. There's a lot of car fu in this movie.
>> Lot of carf. But that's how that's how the racers do it.
>> That's true.
>> Cuz they can't be the gun fu guys.
>> They can be the car fu guys. But I wrote I wrote carfu where it's like >> this has sort of happened in previous movies, but it's very apparent to me in this one. Like where um they all um shoot the harpoon guns into Dom's car.
And then like he does some weird trickery where they all smash together and flips them around and then claps them like the three stooges. Like >> I think they're just trying to get like really creative. They probably have rooms they sit around and they're like, "All right, in this one."
>> Yeah.
>> What are we going to do with cars? Yeah.
>> Like how can we make this car scene happen? The man dodges a heat sinking missile, flies past a sub and uses it on the like >> and then immediately that is protected by other cars. the other cars come and protect them. Damn right.
>> It's in the in the basis of this movie, it's always been about the cars. Yeah.
>> And the car culture, but now it's just like cars are a tool to with which to do the action rather than the focus of the movie itself.
>> Yes.
>> Um but even so, Mad Max car like uh Dom has that crazy Mad Max flame shooting out the back of it.
>> Yeah. Pretty cool. I said I kind of miss simpler plots.
I KIND OF I KIND OF MISS it when it was just about winning race wars.
>> But I but that's again I want to stress >> Yeah.
>> I gave you the heads up.
>> You did >> these plots. But I I stand by my statement that these plots while >> absolutely insane >> Uhhuh.
>> make sense moment to moment. You're like, "Yeah, okay." But >> earlier on the plots were simple and you're like, "Wait, why though?"
>> Yeah. And that's crazy to me that the more ludicrous not the rapper that we get, the more I'm like, "Okay, this checks out though."
>> Yeah. Yeah, that's true.
>> It's insane they're doing it, but everything that got us to this point checks out.
>> Yeah. I not to say I didn't like this one. This one was fun, but I You're right. This is the most insane one yet.
Um I I will say >> we got two to go.
>> Yeah. God. All right. Um I will say I love Shaw. I think Shaw is a really fun character and I'm glad that >> Jason Staithm chews up every scene. The whole thing with him and the baby is like that scene rules.
>> Yeah, I even said early I should have said it but I thought it but there's only one you can't really verify that but um I did think it when they showed the baby I was like they're going to have to fight with the baby at some point. Like not with the baby but they're going to have to be like holding the baby at some point.
>> You just thought it was probably dumb.
>> I did think it was going to be dumb. I did think it was going to be dumb. I did not think it was going to be Shaw, but surprise.
>> Yeah, >> it was Shaw.
>> It's Shaw's payback. He's like, "Look, you were a bad guy, but you saved my son, so we're square." Because, as we learned at the beginning of the movie, it's about respect. It isn't about the gifts and rewards. It's about respect.
>> Yeah. Um, but anyway, so Charlie Theren escapes.
>> We don't know where she is.
>> Well, they said that they found her somewhere in Europe, I think.
>> But she's not going to be launching nukes anytime soon, >> right? which means >> yeah, >> we'll see.
>> Who's to see? Who's to say? Um, also, not to not to toot our own horns too much, but I think we were on point for commentary this movie. So, go to the Patreon is very good.
>> Uh, also, Octo >> made a few wishes.
>> Yeah.
>> Uh, and I'm not going to talk about on here.
>> Yeah.
>> You mentioned a bunch of people you'd love to see in this movie.
>> Yeah.
>> Or this franchise. Yeah.
>> You were talking about it and I'm just going to say everyone should go watch that.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Everybody should. Um, I mean, oh, I wrote motor Jesus.
>> That's how we described.
>> He shows up. He He shows up at the He has risen in his name. Amen.
>> As it is on earth, so it shall be in heaven.
>> Family. Um, so yeah. Um, this one I mean, oh, also I did want to say they have this habit of the climax of the movie is them being chased by a giant vehicle.
>> Yes.
>> I think that's happened like three times now.
>> You know what I realized?
>> What? The one thing they haven't done, one of those giant massive like earth movers.
>> Like the the mining trucks.
>> Yes, that would be fun.
>> Yo, hey, >> get on that.
>> Mr. Diesel, if you're watching, >> get on it. That would be amazing.
>> Fast forever.
>> Um, anyway, yeah, that was And then of course the good guys win.
>> Yeah, >> I guess really the only big casualty was Dom's old flame. But >> yeah, >> said sometimes just can't be that easy.
>> It's a little Sometimes you got to be convenient for the family.
>> I did love that both of the Shaws showed up. I thought that was cool. That was sick.
>> Yes. Also, we got uh the guys from Brazil came back.
>> Yeah, that was the cameo that I was talking about. He must have just loved working with them and brought those characters back. That was really fun. I love that they were there.
>> The uh the the guy from Cuba showed up to help him.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
>> Again, it's about respect, dude.
>> It's about respect. It's about family.
It's about family. Um, yeah, this was a fun one. This was really This was a I mean, you kind of have to turn your brain off at some point, but like >> Oh, for sure. It's >> If you think about it too hard, you're gonna be like, "That doesn't make any sense. Why did that happen?"
>> But it's Yeah, if you use superhero logic, if you can sit through a Marvel movie, same vibe.
>> It's the same vibe, of course.
>> Yeah. Where do you think we go from here?
>> Space, but not yet. Um, >> okay.
>> But we have >> I've been hyping that up. So, >> you have I know it happens, but like in between, I don't know. You know, when we when we end up in Fast Nine, >> ignoring Hobs and Shock because that's a spin-off. It's its own thing. Yeah. Fast Nine.
>> Yeah.
>> What are you thinking?
>> Um I I mean I I want to say something, but anything I say I feel like has already happened.
>> Okay. Uh prediction. So now we're getting new cast members. Predictions on new cast members.
>> Um Oh, John Cena.
>> That would be fun.
>> Shut up.
We'll see you next time. See you next time.
