Added:[music] >> You can see this man's got a bit of presence about him. He just pick up his phone as though he ain't nothing.
Wow, this sounds good. This is impressive.
>> There are [music] some special ingredients you look for in head coaches, real indicators of high potential. And when [music] you speak to Peter, and when you watch his teams play, when you see his methods of work, all of those are in there.
>> [music] >> We haven't chosen cuz he's different.
We chosen because he was the most impressive.
Excited.
Proud.
Humbled.
Here for a great [music] opportunity to do something special. A great challenge as well.
>> What's going on here, Andrew?
>> Decorating in here.
Top secret. Can't tell you.
>> Near manager.
>> The announcement, some content, that kind of stuff.
He's going to be an adopted Salford lad.
>> It's a wonderful place. Come and see the Salford Lads Club.
Steeped in kind of history and culture of our city.
Place that people easily identify with, not just in the city, but around the world. So, we thought it's the ideal place to do the the kickoff of the announcement.
>> Morning.
Morning, you guys. How you doing?
>> Peter, this is Ronan.
>> Ronan's our chief business officer.
>> Peter, this is Andrew.
Andrew's head of >> Creative, right?
>> Yeah, no bad blood.
>> How's the jet lag, Peter?
>> Yeah, pretty good.
>> Yeah.
>> You say pretty good, but we were up at 4:00, 5:00 messaging each other. So, you were you were definitely >> a.m. today I was up, so I might lag a little bit later on, but pretty good. Yeah, we'll fight through it.
>> Uh it's a good day. It's an exciting day for us. Yeah, Peter's buzzing to be here. We're excited to have him here, so yeah, we're formally today and capturing content and looking around some of the parts of the uh the and facilities that Peter's not yet seen.
>> Yeah, looking forward to it. Looking forward to it. It's nice to be down here as well.
>> We We got to get him in.
>> Who's up for it?
>> You a boxing fan?
>> Yeah.
>> Do you want a combination?
>> That's a Tim Cahill celebration, isn't it?
>> Oh, yeah. I need a corner flag.
>> That'd be a good one, actually.
First game of the season at home.
>> Yeah.
>> Straight off to the corner flag.
>> [clears throat] >> Well, the manager does it.
>> Yeah, well >> Nah, you won't get me. I'll stay in the technical area. I'll let the boys do that one.
He's got aura about him.
And we were [music] on the same page right from the word go.
>> Today, first and foremost, is about catching everything from the announcement, but most importantly, we've got dinner this evening with a number of our staff members, just so we can build relationships, cuz you know, pre-season [music] is now just less than 2 weeks away. So, today's great because loads of energy, it's exciting [music] to Peter to be here, and you know, to have him on the ground, and and go through this, but work's already started.
>> Oh, there's nothing like English football.
I I guess from a personal perspective, [music] I've built my career up in in Asia.
Um and there was a time, a bit of a reflection point recently, where I wanted more. And then, I guess the universe aligned where, you know, this opportunity popped up, and I think it's a great opportunity for me personally, but also a great opportunity [music] for special people to work together to create something special.
>> This full lap is a So, it's a kilometer. [music] >> Yeah.
>> So, you do like a 12-minute You have to do it You have to do three laps in 12 minutes.
>> Oh, yeah?
>> How hard was that?
It was hard.
>> What's your What's your biggest memory [music] from this place as a >> Biggest memory?
>> Yeah, like if you just pulled one out of the memory bank, what would it be?
>> Training with the first team.
>> Yeah.
>> Cuz I'm I'm going back years and years.
It will be 35 years.
>> This is the first dressing room that I remember.
I remember having to wear this. I got a call on a Friday night from school.
Jesus Christ, just the same.
>> Has it changed?
>> I got a call on a Friday night from school. He said, "You're playing for the B team tomorrow.
Uh you need to wear a shirt and tie."
>> Yeah, well, didn't have one.
>> Had to wear my school uniform.
>> [laughter] >> But this is exactly where it was.
>> History there is unbelievable, really, isn't it?
>> You know, when I actually say it's not changed to everybody, I actually think it must change, though.
It must have changed a little bit, but it hasn't.
I actually I've never actually come down to this week cuz obviously it's the players, but >> Yeah, mate.
>> Happy to see you.
>> How are you? What's your name?
Nice to meet you.
>> That was the biggest Salford fan.
>> Yeah, he works for United.
>> You all right, mate? Good to see you.
>> Yeah, yeah, good to see you, too.
>> It's a really, really amazing environment. I've never worked in somewhere where it's so nice. When I first started here, I said to the other guard, "Something's not right."
It's because everything is just so nice and it's so happy, but it's just just really nice to be here.
>> yeah, nice. Beautiful.
>> Yeah.
>> There you go.
>> Yeah.
>> How much do you want, by the way? Jesus Christ.
How good is that?
>> [laughter] >> Bill, >> this is Peter.
>> Hello, Bill. Peter, this is Peter.
>> Nice to meet you, Bill.
>> Yeah, how are you?
>> Bill fixes everything that's broken.
>> There you go.
>> Bill, give us a bit of a history of the club. Tell us about your time here.
>> Salford lads club.
>> Oh, really?
>> Yeah, well, I started at under eights and finished at 15. Went away from to go. So, [snorts] we brought him in as a youth team.
And I was six when I went through to the first team. Then I ended up being secretary, ground job man, groundsman.
>> He's the chief.
>> No. So that's where we all started from.
1940, but I came 35 years ago.
>> It's an honor to meet you, Bill.
>> Yeah.
>> How would you describe what it is to be from Salford?
>> Well, I've got Monkey Park, which is the not the scruffiest part, but one of the poorest areas.
You've got your pub with your social card.
I'll do something else.
But Salford is a workaholic.
>> Yeah. So that's the that's the key for me. So every time you watch our team play, they'll be hard workers, grinders, ready to roll their sleeves up, represent the represent the community.
And play some good football at the same time.
>> And this this one's got me on a good day, cuz usually I don't get filmed.
>> Yeah, there you go.
>> I've never been filmed.
>> Bill, it's one of those There you go.
You finally got him.
>> [laughter] >> What's your first impressions?
Special. Special club that can do special things.
Um and just reading some statements there on the wall there from Gary, Phil, and Paul, that's uh it resonates with me.
With hard work, dreams can come true.
