Organic compounds are named systematically based on their molecular structure: alkanes (single bonds) end with 'ane', alkenes (double bonds) end with 'ene', and the prefix indicates the number of carbon atoms (eth- for 2 carbons, prop- for 3 carbons); branched compounds are named by identifying the longest carbon chain, numbering the chain to give substituents the lowest position numbers, and specifying the side chain (methyl for 1 carbon, ethyl for 2 carbons, propyl for 3 carbons).

CHEMISTRY : Organic Chemistry
Added:Problems with organic chemistry. Let me start from here. We have got compounds A and C. And we are taught to identify the compounds. How do we identify these compounds? Come closer. When you see a double bond, you see what? A double bond. It's an alkane.
Alkane. E N E. Okay?
Are we there?
When you see two carbon atoms, there are how many carbon atoms? Two. So, two carbon atoms, okay?
Okay? Atoms.
Just know that that compound, okay, starts with eth.
Are we there?
Ends with For a double bond, it ends with E N E.
Two carbon atoms, it is starts with this. Think about it.
Two carbon starts with this.
It's a double bond, ends with this. So, let's add the end and the beginning together.
Together, ethene.
That's what you you were supposed to be taught from the beginning.
Come here.
This is um an isomer. Do you know what an isomer is? An isomer is a compound with the same uh molecular formula, but a different display formula. You can say the display formula is different, but the molecular formula will be the same. All right?
So, consider the longest chain. The longest chain is this. Because there are three carbon atoms.
So, three carbon atoms starts with I'm saying it starts with prop.
Three carbon atoms starts with what?
Prop. Can you see any double bond here?
No.
You can only see single bonds, right?
Uh-huh. So, single bonds okay, indicates an alkane.
It ends with a n e. So, we know that the longest chain start with prop and end with the a n e. Are we there? So, we know that it is a prop then add a n e, we have this.
But, there's something else again.
Check. If this is your carbon number one, this is your carbon number two.
There is something on carbon number two.
Check on carbon number two. There is a carbon.
Okay.
There's a carbon and three hydrogen atoms surrounding that carbon.
It has branched from there.
This is what we call the side chain. And a side chain with one carbon atom, one carbon atom start with the meth.
It's a methyl.
A side chain with one carbon atom is a methyl. A side chain with two carbon atoms, it's what?
Ethyl. With three carbon atoms, propyl and so on.
So, this side chain, methyl, is in is on carbon number what? Number two. So, you you are going to write it two methyl.
So, methyl is on carbon number two.
That's what the two is in front is doing. So, this is a two methyl propane.
That's all.
My number is there. Let us learn together. Revise together.
