HIKE Up and RIDE Down: Sulphur Mountain Summit Hike #canadianrockiesAdded:
Today we'll be hiking to the top of Sulfur Mountain in the town of Ba, Alberta, Canada. It is a rewarding climb through the forest with no less than 28 switchbacks. As you climb, the views just get better and better. Once at the top, you will have a 360° view of six different mountain ranges, the town above, and the winding bow valley below.
As an added bonus of this hike, you can take the gondola down.
Welcome to my channel, Live on Alberta.
My name is Carrie and I love hiking in the Canadian Rockies. If you enjoy stunning landscapes, towering peaks, pristine lakes, cascading waterfalls, and canyons, you have come to the right place. I hike 12 months of the year, and my videos will show you all aspects of the trail.
Here we are on Cascade Ponds in B National Park looking at Mount Rundle.
Well, today we're here in the town of Bound.
There's Mount Rundle there.
Cascade Mountain right there.
And we're going to be hiking up to the top of Sulfur Mountain behind those trees there.
You'll have to pay $17.50 per day Canadian to park here from May 15th till October 12th, 2026.
I'm hiking with Kim and Bill today.
And here we go.
Cleat are highly recommended andor poles.
There's the B hot springs there to the summit.
I think Bill said there's around 28 switchbacks here.
Well, it's nice we still have snow on the trail here because otherwise it'd all be mud.
We're half a kilometer in and I think now it's just going to be snow on the trail right to the summit.
Yeah, this is all life's here right now.
Well, that last portion was nice and easy.
Looks like we're going to get a little bit steeper now.
just over 1.5k and switch back. So, we're getting a little bit steeper again.
The sign speaks for itself.
Stay on the trail.
We're now below the gondola.
All the switch backs to the top will be underneath these guys.
Well, the snow is definitely getting deeper as we go higher, which wouldn't make sense.
Starting to get some views.
2.3K and walk over there.
See a waterfall, but won't see anything this time of year.
Spanking.
>> Hi, I'm Rose. Hey, I'm Lily.
>> And where are you from?
>> We're from Australia, Sydney.
>> Oh, well, nice to meet you.
>> Nice to meet you, too.
>> No, just my met ladies from Australia.
This is her last day here.
Way off in the distance there, you can see Lake Minaka.
And the views are getting better and better.
Well, they're definitely getting steeper now.
We're at 3.2K.
Here's a good lookout spot.
You're down.
Just over 3.75K, you can expect this steep switch back.
And here we are looking at the Rundle Range towards Canar.
Yeah, it's definitely time to wind now.
So, I'm whining.
Just over 4.2K and should be at the end of that bad boy. And now we're still going up. Oh my my at 4.8K. Trail keeps going this way. But here's where I want to get some good pictures.
>> Oh yeah.
Okay.
5.2K, 675 m in elevation gain, and we've reached the top of Sulfur Mountain.
Woo!
Oh, definitely got a breeze happening up here now.
Cosmic back.
Heat.
Kim and I decided we're going to ride down. Bill's hiking down. So, we'll see you next in the gondola.
Okay, we're now in the gondola heading down.
Thank you very much for watching this video. If you enjoyed it, a thumbs up and a comment would be greatly appreciated.
And we're back.
Woohoo.
The Sulfur Mountain hike in the spring features melting snow and fresh greenery returning to the mountain side. The steady climb through the forest gradually reveals the stunning views of BA, the Bow Valley, and the surrounding snowcapped peaks. Spring conditions can range from muddy lower trails to icy upper sections, but the crisp air and the quieter scenery make the hike especially rewarding. In our next video, we'll be hiking up to beautiful Boom Lake in B National Park. This one wasn't easy. A lot of post holeing. I do not recommend it for a spring hike. However, if you can make it to the lake, the reward is just magical.
