Why Are You Learning English? 🤔

[00:00:00]So if you've been watching my channel for a while now, you'll know that I'm a very curious person.

[00:00:05]I'm always wondering about things, and today I'm wondering about why are you learning English?

[00:00:10]I'm just curious.

[00:00:11]This channel is usually about me talking to you, and it's not very often that I hear from you about your English learning journey.

[00:00:18]So I'm very curious about why you are learning English.

[00:00:22]So in this lesson, there's two things that we're going to do.

[00:00:25]Number one, I would love it if in the comments below the you could post in the comments why you are learning English.

[00:00:32]Think about it for a little bit.

[00:00:34]Write me a sentence and tell me why you're learning this crazy language that I speak naturally and for some reason you want to learn.

[00:00:40]And then the second thing I want to do in this video is I'm going to teach you a bunch of different example sentences that you can use if you're having trouble expressing the reason why you're learning English.

[00:00:51]So, two things.

[00:00:52]You leave a comment, you tell me why you're learning English, and I will teach you exactly how to say it.

[00:00:58]So you might want to do this in the opposite direction.

[00:01:01]You might want to watch the rest of the lesson first, find the English example sentence that works best for you and use that as a model to write your comment.

[00:01:10]Okay, here we go.

[00:01:11]Example sentence number one.

[00:01:13]I'm learning English because I want to talk to people from other countries.

[00:01:17]One of the reasons sometimes people learn a language is because they want to talk to people who live in other parts of the world.

[00:01:23]For me, one of the reasons I learned French is because I find it very interesting to talk to people from France, also from the province of Quebec.

[00:01:31]But that's not a different country.

[00:01:33]That's just part of Canada.

[00:01:34]So one of the reasons you might be learning English.

[00:01:37]I want to talk to people from other countries.

[00:01:40]Example sentence number two.

[00:01:42]I'm learning English because I want a better job.

[00:01:45]Maybe you work in a field where learning English and speaking the English language is a huge benefit, and it might mean you can get a promotion, or it might mean you can get a different job entirely.

[00:01:55]This is often true if you're a teacher or if you're an engineer, or if you're someone who works in the medical field.

[00:02:01]If you can learn English, you can get a better job or you can get a promotion at your existing job.

[00:02:06]So example sentence number two.

[00:02:08]I'm learning English because I want a better job.

[00:02:12]Example sentence number three.

[00:02:14]I'm learning English as a hobby.

[00:02:16]A hobby is something that you do in your spare time.

[00:02:19]It's something you do after work.

[00:02:20]Or maybe it's something you do in retirement.

[00:02:22]It's something you do for fun, it gives you enjoyment, and it really makes your day better.

[00:02:28]So maybe learning English for you is something really fun.

[00:02:31]Maybe it's like a gigantic puzzle.

[00:02:33]As you learn the language, you're fitting all the pieces together.

[00:02:36]So, example sentence number three.

[00:02:38]I'm learning English as a hobby.

[00:02:41]Example sentence number four.

[00:02:43]I'm learning English because I want to study at a university.

[00:02:46]This is a very common reason to learn the English language.

[00:02:50]Maybe you want to go to an English speaking country and you want to go to university in that country.

[00:02:55]So you'll learn English so when you go there, you can learn something at university, but also continue to improve your English while you're there.

[00:03:03]Example sentence number five.

[00:03:05]I'm learning English because I want to use the Internet more.

[00:03:08]The Internet is filled with all kinds of information and there's so many things to watch as entertainment, but a lot of it is in English.

[00:03:16]Now, I will admit AI translation and translation software is getting a lot better.

[00:03:20]But sometimes it is nicer to watch things in the original language.

[00:03:25]Sometimes it's nicer to read and understand the English webpage because it makes you feel good because you accomplished something.

[00:03:31]So reason number five, I'm learning English because I want to use the Internet more.

[00:03:36]Example sentence number six.

[00:03:38]I'm learning English because I want to travel.

[00:03:40]This is probably one of the most exciting reasons to learn English.

[00:03:44]Maybe you're going to visit England or Canada or the United States or Australia or one of the many countries in the world where they speak English.

[00:03:51]This would certainly be the sentence you would use to describe why you're learning English.

[00:03:55]When you go there, you can speak to people in the English language and enjoy your vacation and improve your English while you're there.

[00:04:02]So example sentence number six.

[00:04:04]I'm learning English because I want to travel.

[00:04:07]Example sentence number seven.

[00:04:09]I'm learning English to understand movies, TV shows and songs.

[00:04:13]If you think about all of the movies in the world, a lot of them come from the United States.

[00:04:18]If you think about all the TV shows in the world, a lot of them come from English speaking countries.

[00:04:23]And certainly if you think about music, there is a lot of music in the world that is in English.

[00:04:28]And maybe you enjoy movies and you enjoy English TV shows and you enjoy music from Canada and you want to understand it better.

[00:04:35]That's the sentence you would use you would say, I'm learning English to understand movies, TV shows and songs.

[00:04:42]Example sentence number eight.

[00:04:44]I'm learning English because I want to make new friends.

[00:04:47]If you are an online gamer, if you play online games, you will meet people from around the world and maybe you want to speak English to them.

[00:04:55]If you are someone who watches live streams, you might participate in English conversations in the chat and eventually make new friends.

[00:05:03]So your reason for learning English is a very social reason.

[00:05:06]It's because you would like to meet people and perhaps become their friend.

[00:05:09]So, example sentence number eight.

[00:05:11]I'm learning English to make new friends.

[00:05:14]Example sentence number nine.

[00:05:15]I'm learning English to improve my brain.

[00:05:18]It has been proven that learning another language is really good for your brain.

[00:05:23]It's a really good activity.

[00:05:25]It's very similar to playing video games or doing puzzles or even solving math problems just for fun.

[00:05:32]Is that a thing?

[00:05:32]I think some people do that.

[00:05:34]When you exercise your brain, your brain stays healthier.

[00:05:37]So, example sentence number nine.

[00:05:39]I'm learning English to improve my brain.

[00:05:42]Example sentence number 10.

[00:05:45]I'm learning English to read the news, to watch the news, to listen to the news.

[00:05:49]There are so many things happening in the world, and sometimes the news source is only in English.

[00:05:54]And maybe you're someone who really likes to follow the news from around the world.

[00:05:59]You would naturally need to learn English to understand some of the things you're reading, watching, or listening to.

[00:06:04]So, example sentence number 10.

[00:06:06]I'm learning English to read the news, to watch the news, or to listen to the news.
