In Vedanta philosophy, 'tattva' (thatness) represents the fundamental root of creation, where 'tat' (that) serves as both a pronoun referring to anything and a root meaning 'that which expands'—the expansion of this principle gives rise to the entire world, making 'thatness' the essential nature underlying all existence.

What is the root of this creation? | Swami Anubhavananda
Added:See this word tattva tat and tattva lazy and laziness foolish foolishness happy happiness that ness aspect is indicated in Sanskrit by the suffix tva so tattva thatness Get this point?
So when we say happiness the happiness is an experience If you say only happy you don't get any understanding out of it.
happy Who is happy? And what happy?
We are all miserable.
traffic jam everywhere So happiness So that happy when it becomes an experience it is called as happiness.
Similarly tat tattva tattva experience of that Now this tat is both a pronoun as well as a root dhatu as well as the noun the pronoun sarvanam So tat means tanu vistare that which expands If you are seeing the factory where they manufacture the wires, copper wire. One copper wire factory I have seen.
There they go on pulling that wire with a particular strength and slowly slowly it is rolled around something.
So, the same rod of wire uh rod of copper is pulled and it becomes a wire.
Nothing is added.
Exactly the same way. That that which expands and the expansion of that is this world.
Therefore, Dhatu, the root of this world creation is that.
This is one meaning of that.
The second meaning is that means that.
That means it is a pronoun that can be attributed to anything.
That man.
That foolishness.
That accident. That marriage.
That death.
After marriage.
So, that that is attributed or associated with all the things and beings, events, and everything.
That day I was somewhere that.
I told you that. You don't remember?
So, that is expansion supporting the variety and therefore that alone is.
This is the meaning of Tattva.
Thatness.
