Enterprise AI adoption decisions are often made through informal channels like golf courses rather than rigorous strategic analysis, leading to widespread implementation without clear evidence of productivity gains, despite significant per-user-per-month costs and additional token expenses.

Co-Pilot is No-Pilot?
Added:I was with the CEO of another major manufacturer last month at our executive summit in Redmond, [music] and he personally spent about an hour with our executive team. He's rolling out Copilot across 15,000 employees, full 365 integration, and he's calling [music] it the biggest transformation he's done in decades. And you know what I'm seeing is companies are either getting ahead of AI or they're falling behind, and that's just the reality.
>> Yeah, we've been talking about AI for a while now. My board's really on me about what my strategy is. What does a rollout look like?
>> Honestly, it's turnkey. It sits right inside of Outlook, Teams, everything that your team uses today. Minimal disruption. [music] And we'll work with you every step of the way, change management, deployment, training, the whole nine yards. You won't be doing this alone. Hey, and I'll get you out to our executive briefing center next month in Seattle. Fly you out on the private jet, we'll go play some golf, you'll meet some Fortune 500 execs. They're really good people.
>> What does it look like license-wise?
[music] >> Hey, let's not talk about numbers on a day like today. Get your CIO, CFO in a room, we'll come up with something that works. We always do.
>> You know what? I need to show the board we're serious about AI. This might be exactly what we need. Set up the meeting.
>> So, I just asked Copilot to turn my picture into a cartoon avatar. This is what our AI transformation looks like.
Six months ago, leadership sent out a company-wide email, Copilot rollout, Microsoft 365 [music] full deployment.
They called it the biggest transformation in a decade. And look, everyone's using it. I use [music] it, but it really hasn't made me that productive. So, I went to my CEO and asked him point-blank, "How much are we paying for all of this?" He said it's a significant investment, but the ROI case is very compelling. I still don't know the number, but he said it's a great question for IT and finance to work through together. That meeting has not happened. What I do know is that we're paying per user per month just to have access. And then every time we use it, there are token costs on top of that.
But here's the thing nobody will say in a meeting. Ask anyone on my team privately, just pull them aside and ask.
Nobody will say that it's working really well. So, I guess my question is, how did leadership make this decision? I bet you it was on the golf course. Well, at least it got the cartoon right.
