Mushrooms I Found in April 2026 - Spring Mushrooms Foraging - Verpa bohemica - Morchella - Gyromitra

[00:00:24]I often have bad luck for this location because I'm either too early or too late.

[00:00:33]But look at this one.

[00:00:36]A beautiful veraba.

[00:00:49]Pictures taken. Now take the mushroom.

[00:00:58]Today is Friday the 24th of April 2026 and this is the first mushroom to pick.

[00:01:04]I am recording.

[00:01:08]I wanted to show you this purple or pink flowers.

[00:01:13]This is a plant but it has no green parts. It does no photosynthesis.

[00:01:20]It's parasiting on myelium of some kind of mushroom.

[00:01:25]And in my experience, it's a good indicator to also search for morels or these ringled timble morels.

[00:01:35]I often find them next to each other.

[00:01:40]And there are more of them.

[00:01:43]Another one.

[00:01:45]Two.

[00:01:48]three.

[00:01:52]Most of them are too small, but I will take some of them.

[00:01:58]I'm leaving most of them behind because they are either not in a good shape or they are too small.

[00:02:06]But this one seems to be good to take. Yes, I often pick this size.

[00:02:30]Another indicator of wrinkled timble morels are prime roses. At least I hope this this is the name of these flowers.

[00:02:41]And it's plenty of them today.

[00:02:45]And just a few meters from the prime roses, I have spotted something where is the second one.

[00:03:10]Here is another one. And I think this one will be great for a picture.

[00:03:27]So after taking the picture, I'm taking the mushroom as well.

[00:03:38]I think this one is one of the most beautiful ones today.

[00:03:49]My first finds of brain fungus this season.

[00:04:03]They are also called false morals.

[00:04:11]In my experience, these like to grow under spruces and pines during similar time as true morals.

[00:04:44]Last time I seen this in June last year.

[00:04:58]The full Latin name of this species is gerometra esculenta and you can find a picture of it at the page 104 in my mushroom photography book together with many other pictures including a verabimika for example.

[00:06:54]One of the best things in the forest, such creeks with fresh water.

[00:07:03]Here is quite an unexpected find from the forest road and one of the most beautiful early morels or wherea I've ever found.

[00:07:46]I will also take this beautiful mushroom to my basket.

[00:08:01]And there is a neighbor.

[00:08:05]A bit different color, a bit different size.

[00:08:48]The stem is really huge but the head as well looks amazing.

[00:09:03]I need to crouch, but I should be rewarded by more beautiful mushrooms here.

[00:10:07]So, that's where I was picking somewhere there between those fallen trees. Now I'm trying to go from the side because I saw these guys and other beautiful one. I stopped comparing which one is the largest or the most beautiful.

[00:10:47]And I'm happy I got the timing right at this location today.

[00:10:56]It's funny that I was picking them in March and now I'm picking the same species again, but in March it was in a bit warmer area under willows and poppplers, mostly willows.

[00:11:13]And it's known that they start the season later under aspens, which is the case today.

[00:11:24]Okay. How do I get there?

[00:11:37]It is also known that under aspens they may grow a bit bigger which can be seen here. It's really a monster.

[00:12:07]Yeah, these guys are really beautiful.

[00:12:26]This is quite a nice one.

[00:12:32]I already picked this species about a month ago in a different forest uh where the season is a bit more ahead. So now I will show you some footages from the previous month.

[00:12:53]Today is Friday, the 27th of March, 2026.

[00:12:58]And here are my first mushrooms to pick this season.

[00:13:09]These are early morels, also called wrinkled timble morels or some people call them false morels. It's vera bohemica.

[00:13:37]They are edible, but some people might be allergic to these. So, I only recommend to be very care careful if you want to try them. I cannot recommend them for eating in general to everybody.

[00:14:06]There are a couple more. This is a big one. I will try to take a picture of it.

[00:14:20]And here are all of those which I have found around this single tree.

[00:14:36]Let's pick another group.

[00:14:49]Quite the big one.

[00:14:56]They are so well camouflaged.

[00:16:05]I took a picture of this one.

[00:16:21]I believe there are a few more around me. I'm just unable to see them right now.

[00:16:43]eight pieces from this group.

[00:16:48]This is my third visit of this spot this spring. I was here two weeks ago when I only found two early morals which were very tiny.

[00:16:59]One week ago, it was more of them and little bit bigger.

[00:17:04]And today is the first day when I want to pick some of them.

[00:17:19]They are masters of camouflage. I always need to be very careful when I'm walking here because I don't want to step on any of them.

[00:17:46]I pick also the smaller ones today because the weather became very windy and strong dry wind can quickly dry them out.

[00:18:01]I don't know how the season will continue, but we'll see.

[00:18:09]There are many more around.

[00:18:21]Of course, I had to do one pass before I started recording because I wanted to build a little bit of overview about where they are so I can find them when recording.
