HUGE Workspace Upgrade! Building a GIANT CANOPY!Added:
Starting today off with some new tools, man. Freaking doing it right. What's up, guys? Welcome back to the channel, man.
Today, uh, we are going to be making a huge, well, starting the process and making a huge improvement, uh, to our workspace. So, I know a lot of people have already noticed that the canopy is back out front. Dude, that was like the most commented thing in the last video on khaki is like, is this an old video?
But no, we moved the canopy back out front. Dude, I'm just I'm so tired of the way that my house looks without it out there. Uh I really miss the shade. I miss the lighting for at night time. Uh I miss being able to wash my cars in a shaded area. Like dude, all the way around. Like I needed it back out front, which has turned this back porch back into a miserable hot area. Oh, I got you guys up a little too high. All right.
So, the problem is is that the the canopy that we moved out back from out front, uh, it fits my driveway. Like, it's the size of my driveway cuz it was built for my driveway out front. Moving it back here, it only covered half of my patio. So, uh, the one out front, I believe, is like 15 ft by 23 ft, something like that. I I don't remember exactly, but my back porch is 30 feet wide by 25 foot deep. So, that left a very large section of my porch, not covered with shade. So, we decided screw it. We moved it out front. And now we are going to be building a ginormous ginormous cover for the back patio so that the entire thing is shaded. Not only that, but then also so we can put lighting underneath the entire thing and the whole thing will be lit. You know, it was always a struggle. Half of it during the day has shade and at night only half of it has the light. You know what I mean? So, but to be straight up with you guys, it's been pretty miserable out here because now we don't have any shade during the day obviously and then at night time we also don't have the lights cuz we moved the canopy out front. That's why I've been doing all my work inside of the garage. Uh now here has kind of went to crap. You know, we got stuff piled up all over the place. So, in order to get started here, I need to kind of clean up. I need to move some things out of my way. Uh especially the Camaro. The truck we're not really capable of moving, but I think the truck is going to be safe where it's at. Uh we have our material here. This is 10 in 10 in wide. C Perllin and it is 30 ft long. Man, look how far this sticks off my trailer. That was definitely interesting getting this to the house. So that's going to build the main structure, the top, the the shaded portion that we have to attach all of the corrugated metal to, you know. Now, as far as the post, I have four of them. And yes, only four. That was another thing. The canopy that we moved out front, we could have simply extended it, but if we would have extended it, we would still have the post right here in the center, which was always in the way, having a post right here and a post right here. So, since I went with the 10-in tall C pllin, that's actually really important. 10- in is capable of spanning 30 ft without having to have any support in the center. So, that way we can get away with not having a post right in the middle that we're always have to maneuver around. So, we got four post. They already have the 1/4in plates welded on the bottom so they can bolt to the concrete. We have pretty much everything that we need to get this started. That is exactly what it is we are going to be doing today. I am definitely excited for this. Uh it's warm today, man. It's starting to get hot here in Arizona. So, we have a lot of work that we have to do before I could even get started. I need to move all this material off of the trailer. I need to move the trailer out of the way and put it back in its spot. We have to get that Camaro out of the way and then just kind of clean up all the clutter and [ __ ] that's all over the place.
You know what I'm saying? So that I can actually work in this space. It's kind of went to crap out here. But yeah, dude, let's stop talking about it.
There's a lot to do and let's get being about it, you know?
Hey there.
All right. So, we got this all cleared off.
Uh so, we have some space to actually work up here. Now, uh, first thing first is obviously we need to install the post. I feel like this is going to be the most difficult part because, uh, we got to get all four of these not only level, you know, you got to get them level in this direction and this direction, but you also have to get them square with one another, you know. So, uh, I don't know. I'm just going to get into this. So, we're going to start on this one cuz I know I want this one to be basically right on the corner and then we'll go from there over to that one. As long as we get them in line with one another and exactly 30 ft apart, we should be doing pretty good. Uh the ones that are up here by the house is where it's going to get a little bit more difficult because um I haven't decided on this one whether I'm going to stagger it over here like the other uh canopy was or if I'm going to put it up here against the wall and blow through the roof. This side over here though, I'm going to have to put this one through the roof. uh because our 30 foot mark is ending out there at the concrete and if you look up obviously the roof overhangs that. So, and what sucks is I'd like to just kind of shove it in the corner, you know, but I'm going to have to stagger this one because the size of that pole, the 4 in, it comes into the doorway and then it also comes into the window and I just it that would be ghetto I think to cover that really. it. The door knob would be kind of behind the pole. So, what I'm going to do over here is probably end up installing the pole between this door and this light fixture against the wall and blowing through the ceiling up there through the roof. Uh, so this one will need to be staggered. But either way, man, we'll figure that out once we get there. I think we got enough work just to get the just to get the first pole up. So, let's get going.
All right. Picked up a hammer drill because we're going to need this for actually attaching these things to concrete. Uh my little cordless ain't going to cut it. And we're going to be drilling 1/2 in holes. Bang. Bang. There it is. And what we're going to be using are these concrete anchors. So basically, you just you simply drill a hole and you hammer these things down.
And then whenever you tighten it, just the motion of this thing trying to pull back up, it wedges into the concrete and then it goes absolutely nowhere. Uh these things are really strong. This is absolutely This is actually what it is.
They use also for like installing lifts and whatnot. Just a larger diameter.
These ones are 1/2 in. So we have to put 16 of these into the concrete. That is the reason why I was like, I better buy a drill.
Sit down.
Heat.
Heat.
Yep, that's one.
All right. So, getting the first one up.
I've learned one thing. I want to go a little bit deeper with these guys. But those things are freaking in there, buddy.
This thing is solid. And as you can see, we are dead level that way and dead level this way.
Good starting point. Very good starting point, my friend. Okay, so now with that one up, now we got to run that one. So there's another element added to this.
Not only do we need to get it square with the house like we did this one with our eagle eyes. Uh, we got to get it level, but we also have to get it as close to 30 foot from the outside to the outside as we can so that our 30ft material fits. Though, we might end up losing a little bit of the 30 ft because I did have to bring this in some. So, either way, if we end up at like 29T 11 in, you know, we have to make sure that we copy that up there. ALL RIGHT, WE GOT TWO POLES UP. THIS THING is level. I don't know if you guys can see that. The sun's pretty bright. And level. So, we're working on putting our first seed pllin up. I'm thinking that this is probably going to help us to uh square the sides if we go ahead and get the first one up. It's kind of difficult just to, you know, like eyeball it. You know, I don't have lasers. Uh really, I should have like a a string with a string level and all that, but I don't even have that, man. We're kind of unprepared. But so we're going to put the first C pllin up here and then we'll be able to use that with um with kind of a one of my my larger square to make sure that the second se the C pllin that's going towards the house is actually square and figure out exactly like exactly where to put the pipe at on that side. Uh this is going to be a little involved cuz we only have these two A-frame ladders. This one's kind of on the short side. That one over there is a little taller. So what we're doing is measuring down 10 in. And I'm going to actually get up there and clamp a piece of angle iron up there. So once we get it up there, we'll have something to actually set it on. And then uh we got to figure out how to kind of clamp the C pearllin up there too to where we don't have to hold it the entire time. If we can get it clamped up there and in position, check and make sure it's level. Probably going to have to adjust it to make sure it's level, you know, um and get it clamped. Then we can roll the welder out and just burn that [ __ ] in there. And that'll be a uh that'll be huge progress, man.
I probably can't go any further on the ladder than this.
>> Yeah, I'm saying.
>> I'm good. I can go over my head. I'm just waiting on you.
Ready?
>> I think so.
>> Ready?
>> Yeah.
All right. So, that gives you an idea of how big this thing is going to be. Holy crap.
That's going to be sick, dude. Look at that.
all the way across.
That is so freaking cool. That was sketchy, dude. I ain't going to lie.
That was That was a little on the sketchy side to get that thing up there.
But, bro, y'all are not going to believe this, man. We are all set up and go to weld. And guess what?
Little buddy's empty, man.
Yeah, it's it's Saturday right now. It's 5:00 on a Saturday. There's absolutely nowhere open to get gas. Uh, so I hit up Dylan and Dylan has a bottle. So, we're going to run over to him, go grab one from his shop. Dude, I can't believe that we're out of gas. I said it, but you know what? I did say it. I jinxed us. You >> jinxed us.
>> I was like, "Watch. We're going to run out of gas or something stupid. Screw running out of gas. We just didn't even have it." Thanks, Dylan.
>> Yeah, no problem.
>> Appreciate you, >> bro. I literally brought the camera with to record picking the bottle up and then we're like getting in the truck to leave and I saw the camera sitting here. I was like, "Oh, I was supposed to record a clip here." But yeah, we got the bottle.
It's in the back. Let's get back to the house.
Oh my god.
Yeah, Dylan's bottle's a little bigger.
Sun's already going down.
>> Battery's already dead.
>> Is that better?
>> Is that better? Oh, >> yeah. That's a bead.
>> Nice.
While Braven's welding that up, I'm going to start on the task of blowing a hole through my roof. Uh, we got to get this next pole up over here.
Go ahead. Braven's popping the clamps.
>> I said it's your weld, dog. You trust it or what?
>> I trust him.
>> This one kind of welded to it.
>> Is it really?
>> Come on, Braven.
edge of it.
>> I was trying to dodge as best I can, but I'm in here like all the way in there.
>> Yeah, >> she did.
>> Hey, it didn't fall down.
>> She good.
>> Hell yeah. All right, I'd say get set up over there. I'm trying to work on getting this uh this pole shoved through the roof.
Well, there's a hole in my roof.
Hopefully, I ain't got to make it bigger. We'll see.
I'm probably just going to have to cut the hole back a little more.
>> You all right over there?
>> I had a mini heart attack, too.
>> Did you?
>> Well, the thing [ __ ] popped super quick, so I was trying to keep the metal in my hand, but Yeah.
Heat.
All right. So, this first C pearl is completely welded in. Dude, Braven knocked that out. It's got a weld on the the top lip. So the there's two lips that meet with the poles. It's got a weld on the top and the bottom of the top lip and the top and the bottom of the bottom lip on both sides. So that thing's up there nice and solid. Uh yeah, dude. We we kind of ran out of light. And remember how I mentioned that we ain't got no lighting out here since we moved the canopy out front. Anyhow, at least I got my flood lights. I'm going to try to at least get this pole knocked out. Uh, I don't know how much further we're going to get tonight cuz it's so dark and this stuff is like extremely heavy to move and like I just don't want to make a mistake cuz we can't see what we're doing, you know?
But anyhow, I have this pole laid out where it needs to be. I got the holes marked. So, I'm going to get this drilled and get this one leveled. Uh, it's funny. The the original concrete pad that was here is way out of level, dude. the the concrete that Braven and I did. Like you set the pole on there and you just have to barely nudge it. But dude, this thing, good lord, it is it's way out. The bubbles way over there. So, uh, I'm going to have to drill the holes and then definitely stack some washers down there to get this thing straight.
But it is what it is. We'll get her done.
HEAT. HEAT.
WOW.
>> How's it look up there?
>> Uh, big >> big >> big.
>> Yeah. So, we uh stuck it through last night and said, "Screw it. We're going to keep working cuz at least it wasn't as hot." Uh we got all four poles up and we got that one up. So, yeah, dude. We We're probably halfway done with the frame. Actually, a little a little bit more than halfway. Anyhow, we were supposed to pick up all the corrugated metal for this yesterday, but the guy kind of flaked on us and now I think he sold it. So, we're going to we're not going to be able to 100% finish it today cuz we got to source some more uh corrugated metal to actually cover the top of it, but we can at least get the frame done. That's the that would be the big goal cuz after that, the corrugated we just got to slide it up there and get it all screwed down and stuff. So anyhow, we have this beam, this C pllin we got to put up next right here. And then we got to put the one that's going to be up over the roof. And then we have two that are going in the center. So yeah, just keep on keeping on. We'll be done soon. Today is actually uh Mother's Day. So happy Mother's Day to all the mothers out there. And um yeah, we can't spend all day on it. We got to try to get as much done as we can this morning cuz obviously we have plans later.
I have got a comment prediction for you guys. Especially in this clip, actually through the entire duration of the video, uh I've noticed there's a lot of clips where it shows how terrible my roof looks. I just want to give you guys a heads up that I am currently getting quotes to get my roof done as well. So, no worries if you've already commented.
Got your ass.
One more. One more.
What the [ __ ] barely [ __ ] touch it.
>> I can't laugh like that right now, bro.
Holy [ __ ] >> Oh [ __ ] >> You're telling me, bro? I feel dehydrated as [ __ ] up here.
You >> need a water >> right now. Let me get the team done.
When I get down above the other side, that's my reward. Water.
>> All right. All right. No more jokes.
[ __ ] serious.
Get him.
hot up here.
>> Yeah, >> it's pretty hot. All right, so the main structure is up there. So, we do have these two 30footers. Uh these we just have to basically measure and center them inside of here. Just evenly space them uh from one side to the other. But we're probably not going to, you know, we're I'm just going to say we're not going to get to that today, man. Cuz um yeah, it's really hot. Like I mentioned, it's Mother's Day and we got we obviously got to go and do the, you know, hang out with our moms and whatnot. But not to mention, I don't, for one, our ladders aren't tall enough to to reach.
I have one 8-footer. The other one is a sixfooter. So, and these things are ridiculously heavy. It hasn't been too terrible to get them up on a pipe cuz we're able to clamp the angle iron and stuff, but the center is going to be another story, man. I'm probably going to have to I don't know. I'm I'm thinking maybe rent a scissor lift or something would make it a lot easier on us, but we'll have to do that another day. And on top of that, I still got to get the corrugated metal. So, we're going to go ahead and finish up that one. Uh Braven's finishing welding. And then this one right here needs to be welded. And then that's pretty much it for today, man. But huge progress nonetheless.
Well, we are done for the day. Uh, if you actually look at the shadow of the beams, this is going to be freaking amazing. So, you see where that beam is shadowing? That would all be shade. And then you can see up there on the roof of the house, the shadow from the beam.
It's obviously going to keep this so this entire side of the house right here a lot cooler. Uh, and of course give us a place to work once we get this thing all closed in. Like I mentioned earlier, dude, put all the lighting underneath here. It's going to be freaking sick.
It's going to be super dope. I'm also kind of thinking, this is getting a little bit ahead of myself, but uh that corrugated metal on the top, if we did that spray-on uh that foam spray-on uh insulation underneath it, that would help cut the heat out tremendously and put a nice big swamp cooler in here. Be freaking sick. But anyhow, guys, like I said, this is uh pretty much all the progress we're going to make in this video. Uh, we need to probably rent a scissor lift or something to get the centers up or at very least borrow a couple bigger ladders from somebody. I I know a few people probably have a couple ladders we can borrow and then uh we'll get the centers up and we're still looking for another place to buy the corrugated metal. Now, I know there's a lot of places like where you can go and buy corrugated metal like steel factories and stuff, but uh we're just trying to find a good deal. You know what I'm saying? I think so far we're into this thing like 1,200 bucks. So, if we can get the corrugated metal for like like 800 or lower, we're literally built this entire canopy for under $2,000. But anyhow, I hope you guys enjoyed it.
We're going to go ahead and end it here, get our mess cleaned up, and go and take a shower and cool off. Dude, of course, we started on this on the days that it's literally a heat advisory.
It's literally a heat advice. Like I can look at my phone right now and it shows it on the front. Extreme heat warning, National Weather Service. Yeah, we'll finish this up in a future video. Of course, we're going to bring you guys along. I need to establish getting some lighting and stuff for it as well. I hope you guys enjoyed it. If you did, please do smash the like button and we'll see you on the next one. Oh, and happy Mother's Day, of course. Later.
