Luxury watch brands like F.P. Journe demonstrate that material innovation requires not just aesthetic choices but also complex engineering solutions; the use of aluminum in watch movements, while offering significant weight reduction, demands precise calculations to account for the material's lower density and different physical properties, ensuring the watch maintains accuracy and functionality despite the unconventional material choice.

WOLVYN: A RARE PIECE FROM AN EXCLUSIVE LUXURY WATCH BRAND! (S2:E8)Added:
We ready?
Who ready? We ready. Hooray.
We ready.
Every once in a while in any industry, there comes in a GOAT. there comes in a individual, a person, a company, a brand, somebody that represents whatever industry they're in to the highest level, takes it to the next level, rises up to the occasion, and that is a brand that we are going to talk about today in the Swiss watch world. To me, that brand is FPJ Jord. Now, many people are it's a very controversial brand because while the watches a lot of times take very traditional cues and can look very classy, they're very beautiful watches, but a lot of times they don't really stick out kind of like an RM or like an iced out piece. They really focus on having traditional cues but with new innovative either materials or their complications or new innovative complications. And that is something that FP Jordan has learned to master.
They are phenomenal at that. FPJ has taken uh the Swiss watch world and has brought in new ways of keeping watches incredibly precise, increasing power reserves, increasing legibility, and he still brings a fun factor to watches.
Let me give you some examples. One of the craziest watches that he has that people spend a lot of money on is the Elegante. And I say crazy because the prices are insane and it is a quartz watch. However, he has brought in complications on a quartz watch so that if you put it down, the battery doesn't run. You're not wasting any of that power reserve. The battery will last forever. And because if you leave it down with no motion, the watch automatically shuts off. And as soon as you pick it back up, it starts right back up again. That is the kind of stuff that is in to me incredible because it's still mechanical while bringing in some new era technology in the quartz movement. But today we're not talking about the Elegante. We're talking about a watch that I think is kind of controversial because it's a very bold look that not many people might appreciate at first glance. Today we're going to be talking about the FPJ Lion Sport. This is the Octa Line Sport and this is in black titanium with a yellow dial. Now, let's talk about this piece.
Now, first, some people I've heard things like, "This looks like a Ronald McDonald watch. It's too yellow. It's got red accents. I don't like the colors." But to me, as I've learned to appreciate, one thing that helped me to see the beauty in this is that one, they call this the Ferrari yellow dial. Now, I saw this really amazing picture and hopefully we can find it again and put it up on the screen. If not, hopefully you can visualize this with me, but somebody had had this watch on. They put it right in front of their steering wheel. They had that bold Ferrari tachometer on the up on the uh on the dash, and it just looked so cool together. That picture is what kind of changed my view on this watch. It helped me to focus in on what they were trying to do. They were trying to get that like traditional beautiful look but make it race inspired, make it really sporty.
And I love that about this watch. Now, let's talk about some of the details.
This watch is 44 mm. It is 11 mm thick.
And from lug to lug, it is about 54 mm.
Now, that might scare some of you at first, you know, at first because of those uh specs, but truly this is a watch that somebody with a larger wrist or a smaller wrist can wear because the way that the lugs work, the lugs really face down almost 90°. So, if you were to wear this watch and size it to you, it can really articulate around your wrist and it actually wears really well. And at being only 11 mm thick, it will really fit nicely under a cuff, which makes this thing extremely extremely wearable. Now, I'm going to take this watch off just to kind of show you guys.
And as I try this on, I want to talk about the deployment on this. This deployment and clasp features internally integrated ceramic pin snaps that make it very easy to clip into place, very secure, and it's going to ensure that it lasts a very long time. A lot of times in the past, they would just integrate it. The metal itself had divots, and that would wear over time. These are spring-loaded ceramic little pin snaps, and it's just going to allow for this thing to last a very long time, be very tactile, and very secure. And also talking about the clasp, this also has a ceramic insert here on the on the clasp, which is going to just keep this thing.
It gives a nice contrast to the titanium, but it's also going to ensure that it doesn't scratch as easy, and it's going to have very good a very high wear factor to this watch. Now, let me go ahead and try this on. Now, I have about a seven and almost 8 in wrist now.
And uh this watch, even though I have a big wrist, uh it looks really good. But again, what I was trying to say, if you have a smaller wrist, the way that the lugs are shaped, it's almost a little too small for me because the way the lugs come down and hug the wrist, you kind of need a smaller wrist to really focus in on that. So, if you have a 7 to 7 and 1/2, this thing is going to look incredible on your wrist. Now, let's move on and talk about some more of the features on this watch. Now, one thing I really love is the positioning of the crown. It makes it so that if you want to wear it left hand or right hand, it doesn't really matter. It's kind of a cool design cue that gives makes it very FPJ. I love the knurling around the crown. It is beautiful to behold. Now, moving on from the crown and next to it, I one of the things that stands out to me is that black ceramic insert bezel.
Again, it's ceramic. It's going to last a long time. It's going to be very scratch resistant. It's going to make it to where you can enjoy this watch and not have to freak out about scratching your aluminum or enamel or anything that's on that bezel. You're just going to be able to enjoy it. It makes for really good legibility, really good wear factor. Enjoy this watch. And then moving on to that, let's talk about this dial. Again, I mentioned this is like a Ferrari yellow dial. It is a lacquer dial. It is very bold. The dial also features a subsecond here at the 6:00.
And that dial is actually a white sapphire dial. Now, when you look at it in person, it almost looks silvery, kind of like mother of pear-ish. It's got this really cool pearl effect, silvery effect, but it's actually just white sapphire and it looks incredible. Now, it's also has those red accents that second hand, a red lacquered titanium hand, which is really cool. on this piece. Something that I actually was surprised to learn is that those hands, the ones for the hour and the minutes are actually stainless steel with applied luminescence on them. Usually when you have hands are going to be white gold or red gold or some kind of gold. They actually went with aluminum, which is part of that like lightweight factor that they went with this watch.
It's actually pretty cool. Now, one thing about Jor to know is that they're all about daily use and practicality.
And so, one thing that I love about this watch is that ginormous date window.
Now, if there's one thing I use on my watch every single day is a date window.
I love a date window if I'm writing checks, if I'm at a place or I just need to know scheduling appointments. It's just something that I always use. I actually use it way more than I do to tell the time. I I almost feel bad saying that, but it's just true. Like, I use the date wheel way more. Again, the numbers are in red. uh script makes it extremely legible against that yellow dial. The other thing that makes this thing extremely practical is you have a power reserve indicator. So, this power reserve indicator is right here between 10 and 11. Extremely legible. I love that. To me, it's something that I get to look and appreciate and see.
Sometimes it's hard to know how wound your watch is, how much power reserve you have left. And Jordan wanted to make sure that's something you could do because this watch features 160 hours of power reserve. That is correct. You can get more than a week of power reserve in your watch. So, if you set this thing down on Sunday and pick it up on Saturday, it'll still be running. Now, I would do want to put a little bit of a caveat. Jordan does say that for the first 120 hours, it remains 100% accurate to their specs. Anything after that, it starts kind of fluctuating a little bit, but for 120 hours, I don't know about you guys, but that is plenty for me. And I'm happy with that level of precision. Now, let's move on to another thing. It also has an AM PM indicator. It's just nice to know.
It's something to behold, something to see. So, when it's night time, it's going to be red. When it's daytime, it's going to be white to match that same white sapphire sub dial at 6:00. Very, very cool. Now, on the sides of the case, you have these titanium high polish bumpers. Really cool look. just brings a nice little level of design to this case that I think just gives it a little bit more contrast, a little bit more design, makes it a little bit more refined, and I love that. And let's talk about this bracelet. This bracelet has a lot of breathing rooms. This one with the spacing in the bracelet just makes it really fun summer breathable watch and it also articulates extremely well.
Again, it's going to make it very easy to size for many different shapes of wrist, different sizes. Incredible part about this watch. Now, keeping in with that sporty design that Jordan went with this watch and keeping it lightweight, something that this watch features that is just next level. If you know anything about materials, if you know anything about watch making and how they do it, especially at the level that Jordan does it, it's a lot easier to polish and work with things like gold or uh other materials like brass. But when it comes down to keeping this thing light, they wanted to go with aluminum. Now, if anybody knows about aluminum, aluminum is one of the hardest hardest materials to work with. And they chose to go aluminum for this movement. That is incredible. One for a couple different reasons. The first one that I already touched on is that it's really hard to work with, but the second aluminum is a lot lighter than gold. So, whenever you're working with the movement, keeping everything accurate while using a material that's a lot less dense and lightweight, you have to account for that variable in the way that the watch functions and moves because the G-forces, the way that they're applied in a practical setting like this, it changes drastically. Well, they innovated, they figured it out, they made the equations necessary to make that happen, and they were able to use aluminum for this for this movement.
Now, a lot of when I first heard that an aluminum movement, I wasn't all that impressed because I didn't really think about those factors. But once I really learned what that meant, it made me appreciate what Jordan is all about and what they do. And it's just that's incredible. It's incredible that they were able to do that. Now, this rotor is aluminum, but it also features tungsten.
Again, the tungsten to keep in with the having to add a little bit of weight to make it more accurate, making sure that that rotor is actually floating around that movement. And uh that's incredible.
Uh, one thing that they talk about this main spring on this watch is it's like over 100 m long or something like that.
And again pointing to the aluminum aspect of this movement. It is crazy that it's aluminum. It still has the coats, the janev, the engine turning, all those different finishes on the movement that you would expect from a luxurious Swissade watch like this. It's just incredible if they're able to do it to that detail, especially given that it's an aluminum, really hard to use material. Moving on to some of the details about this movement. This beats away at 21,600 vibrations per hour and it is at 3 herz. It's pretty incredible.
They had to make some adjustments to make that work because it doesn't beat that quickly, but it just remains super super precise. Again, with all the aspects of it being aluminum and the way that this all works together, it's just an incredible piece. One thing about Jordan, guys, is that they're going to be a classy, very traditional brand that is going to experiment by doing things like larger date wheels, new materials, bold colors like this, but they're not going to go so outside the box that it's going to be something like a Richard Mill. And it's something that I kind of really appreciate about the brand as I've gotten a little bit older, a little bit more discerning with my watch wear.
Now, I still love things like Richard Mill, but I could totally see even this watch being so sporty. Like you could still wear this with a suit, with a tux, and it's going to look really cool, but you could also wear this with a t-shirt and jeans and some sneakers and it's going to be right at home on your wrist.
