The President Who Was Murdered for Making PeaceAdded:
The peacemaker was murdered by his own soldiers. It's October 6th, 1981, Cairo, Egypt. President Anos Sedat sits in the reviewing stand, watching tanks and troops parade past in perfect formation.
4 years earlier, he shocked the world by flying to Jerusalem and speaking to Israel's parliament. No Arab leader had ever done this. He signed the Camp David Accords, ending 30 years of war between Egypt and Israel, and won the Nobel Peace Prize. But his own military seathed with rage. They called him a traitor for making peace with their greatest enemy. As the parade continues, one truck stops directly in front of the presidential stand. Four soldiers jump out and run towards Sedat. He stands, thinking they want to salute him.
Instead, they open fire with automatic weapons. Bullets tear through his chest as he falls backward into his chair. The man who chose peace over war dies in a pool of blood, killed by the very soldiers he commanded. The peacemaker murdered by his own army was Anoir Sedat.
