Vehicle repossession is a legal process where lenders can take possession of a borrower's vehicle upon defaulting on loan payments, with most states allowing creditors to enter property to repossess vehicles; this process serves as an economic indicator, with over 2.2 million cars repossessed in a single year signaling potential economic slowdowns, and attempting to hide vehicles to avoid repossession is illegal and results in additional fees.

>> He can't be underneath the car like that.
Oh, wow.
This is crazy.
He already came prepared.
Wow.
He went to the trunk and pulled out I think he might have pulled out a knife and cut the uh cut the straps off.
Bro, I don't even think I don't know.
Can he get off?
No.
Oh my god.

That's crazy.
Oh, no.
That's crazy.
Oh, no. Not at the pump. And you're going to leave the gas pump right in there?
That's even more dangerous. Okay, somebody pulled it out.
>> Well, Carl though, it means more people are falling behind on their car payments. And when that happens, lenders can step in and repossess those vehicles. Experts say it's not necessarily a sign of economic collapse, but it's definitely a warning sign that the economy is slowing down.
More than 2.2 million cars have been repossessed so far this year, and that number is expected to top 3 million by the end of the year, according to the Recovery Database Network.
>> I think the biggest question we have is is this a recession indicator? It's a question dividing economists.
>> You know, some people think that we're headed for a recession. Other people think that we're remaining positive, but they're growing only slowly.
>> University of San Diego economics professor Alan Gin thinks rising repossessions doesn't necessarily signal a recession, but does show the economy is losing steam, especially in the job market.
>> As you can see uh the average um So, basically, the This is looking pretty bad, and I pulled up a chart here to show you guys the average monthly car payments per person by generation. So, from uh Gen Z's, the it's 577, millennials are paying 735, [music] and Gen Xers are at 839, and baby boomers at 718. So, and I'll leave off with this uh this last actual uh you know, fact right here. Pretty much telling you how hiding a car to avoid repossession, what you should know. So, in many states, all it takes to trigger the repossession process is a a default on your loan, and the harder you make it for the repo man, the more he's going to charge the bank. So, that's in fees incurred that you potentially going to be added on to you to where you're going to have to either pay to I guess trying to get the the vehicle back.
They're saying knowing the laws of jurisdiction is crucial before you do anything. And it says it is a crime to intentionally hide your car to avoid repossession.
And it goes to say in most states, your vehicle can be repossessed the moment you default on your loan or lease.
And finally, in most states, a creditor may legally enter your property to repossess your vehicle.
So, um yeah, it's pretty wild and insane. And I'm just going to go ahead and end this video. Uh just comment down below. Uh tell me what you think. Um tell me if you've if you known of something like that occurring within for you or anybody that you know. And uh thank you for watching. And I likewise don't forget to like, subscribe, and uh share this video, and I'll catch you guys later.
