Procrastination is not laziness or lack of motivation, but rather your brain's protective mechanism to shield you from the stress and potential failure of ambitious goals; to overcome it, break large goals into smaller, achievable steps and give yourself grace to progress gradually rather than attempting to accomplish everything at once.

I Procrastinated For 4 Days… Here’s What I LearnedAdded:
Procrastination feeds off of a very oxymoronic energy source, if that makes sense.
Because a lot of times, it's not because you're undisciplined, it's not because you're unmotivated, it's because there are so many things that you want to do, so you convince yourself not to do anything.
Isn't that crazy?
I want to do everything, so I'll do nothing.
That's crazy. When I quit my job, I told myself, "Hey man, listen. This is going to get tough. You saved up like 6-7 months of expenses to do XYZ, and you're going to pursue this YouTube thing, you're going to get healthy, you're going to get in shape, you're going to do all of these things." I have been consistent, more consistent than I have ever been in my life up until this point.
It has not been easy. And a part of that is me telling myself as soon as I quit, "Oh man, I'm going balls to the wall.
I'm going to do all of this, I'm going to do all of that, I'm going to make this happen, I'm going to do this, I'm going to do that." Right? I'm telling myself this.
How much of that stuff do you think I actually did? If I showed you the blueprint of what I had when I decided to quit my job cuz it was draining my life force, I said I was going to post all these videos per day, I was going to post so many TikTok videos per day, so many TikTok short videos per day, so many Instagram reels, so many Facebook reels, so many YouTube videos, so many YouTube shorts. Like I told myself I was going to post all of these things, I was going to work out almost every single day, and I wasn't going to deviate from the [ __ ] eating regimen at all. I was going to do everything.
And I only did a fraction of that, largely due to the fact that I procrastinated. I did. I procrastinated a lot. It's because in my mind the workload was so heavy, right? The workload was so great that I had no choice but to find some type of solace in the fact that I'm not going to do any of this [ __ ] >> [laughter] >> Like I I genuinely had to find some type of peace with the idea that I'm just not going to do any of this because it's too much, right? It's genuinely too much for me right now and I don't think that I could do this.
First and foremost, your brain is in a constant state of trying to protect you from the outside world and the inside world. It's trying to protect you from yourself and it's trying to protect you from anything else that's not yourself.
What happens as a result is that you feel like, "Okay, I can take on the world with no training. I can do all of this crazy stuff with no type of proof or evidence that I've done it in the past. I could do this. I can make this happen."
Doesn't really happen like that if you really don't have that in you. And a lot of us at first don't have that in us.
So, what our brain does is it says, "Okay, well, since this stuff is causing you stress, since all of these things that you're thinking are causing you anxiety, since all of these goals and plans that you have are stressing you out, I'm going to make sure that they don't stress you out. You're not going to do any of them. You're going to think about them, but you're not going to commit to shit."
Is that like where the phrase jack of all trades and master of none came from?
Could be, maybe, not sure, but could be relevant, could not be relevant. Doesn't matter. The fact of the matter is your brain is always trying to protect you from yourself and the outside world. And when you set out to go do XYZ and you don't do any of it, you call it procrastination. We all call it procrastination. But what is it really?
It's just your mind trying to you from failure. It's your mind trying to protect you from really messing things up because if I don't try, how can I fail? Right? If I don't commit, how can I fall?
If I don't give it an attempt, how could I [ __ ] this up? You can't.
That's the beauty of it. You can't mess it up if you don't try. But the other side of that beauty is that you have to try in order to mess it up to realize what did not work. That's the thing.
That's the real beauty. See, it's a double-sided coin. It's a double-edged sword. It comes with its pros and cons no matter what side you go for. But the fact of the matter is you have to at least give it a shot in order to see where you stack up. Are you really naturally talented at this thing? Is it something that you're going to, you know, have to work for? Is it something that you're going to have to put a lot more effort into? Like what what are we talking about? Like these are the things that have to go on in order for you to truly see like is this thing for me or do I have to work more for it or am I good at it or whatever? Right? I think that makes sense. If you're in a position where you're procrastinating, right? Like right now I I just came off of a three-day procrastination binge. I wasn't really committing to my craft like that. I wasn't really doing what I needed to do. You could tell by me not uploading as frequently as I used to.
It's just like these things just happened and all of a sudden it's just like, "Oh, man. I got the weight of the world on my shoulders." And it's really my own unique world on my shoulders. So, it it means that much more for me to achieve these things that I'm going for.
So, I guess I'm just not going to go for it. I guess I'm just going to sit around and, you know, wait for the world to come to me instead of me going to it.
The unfortunate thing about that is that if you live like that, you're never going to achieve the things you want.
It's very unfortunate that we can't get things as easy as we would like to get them. Nothing in this life that's worth having is easy to achieve.
Nothing in this life that is worth achieving is easy to get. So, if you can't convince your mind that yes, these goals are grand, these things that I want to do are great, and a lot of the steps that I'm going to have to take are you know, just that, a lot.
>> [laughter] >> If you can't convince your mind that these things are necessary even though it seems insurmountable, you're going to have a tough time achieving anything, and you're always going to be prone to procrastination.
Because again, your brain is always trying to protect you from any threat, physical, internal, you know, external, whatever. It doesn't matter. Your mind has been conditioned to believe that pain is bad no matter where it comes from. Like when you go to squat that last rep, and your legs are burning, and your knees are getting sore, your brain is like, "Yo, stop. Like, we need to quit. Like, this is causing us pain."
But you know in your heart it's like, "I got to get this last rep out. I I won't be complete if I don't get this last rep." Or you go to a bench press, or deadlift, or whatever. It's like the pain you feel is your mind telling you you need to stop. But if you ignore that pain, and you keep going forward, how many times have we seen this? How many times have we seen people say, "Oh, I ignored the pain. I kept going, and I got everything I wanted." "Oh, I ignored the pain. I kept going, and I made this happen." "Or I achieved this thing." "Or I did this thing." How many times have we seen this? We've seen this time and time again. It's just that we've never applied it to our own lives, so we can't really relate to it. I'm telling you right now, if you are a serial procrastinator, trust me, I could write a book on procrastination right now, and it would probably be a best seller. Or I should say a habitual procrastinator.
That sounds a lot better.
I'm telling you now, it's because you think you can't achieve the things you want. That's really all it comes down to. You don't think you can achieve the things you want, so you're not even going to try. I want to do everything, so I will do nothing.
That's just That's That's That's it in a nutshell. Your goal should be to take the things that ultimately make you happy. Take the things that give you joy, that give you pleasure, that invokes this passion. Like, you need to take these things and maybe break them down into sections. Maybe break them down into, you know, the grand goal is here. All right, this is what we want to do. Let's Let's break this down. What can I do in the next 24 hours? Once I do that, what could I do in the next week?
I don't even know how many hours are in a week. What could I do in the next 2 weeks? And then what could I do in the next 3 weeks? And then the week But see, it sounds like you're just adding a lot more, but realistically, you're just going step by step. You're going from step one to maybe not step two, but step 1.2, step 1.3, step 1.7, step 1.9, then step two. See what I'm saying? You don't need to take on the world at one time.
The world has more training than you.
The world is more prepared for you than you are prepared for the world. Oh, I You see how I almost messed it up? I cleaned it up. The world has more training than you. The world is prepared to fight you when you are not prepared to fight it. There are demons, monsters, and animals, and all of these ghouls and goblins out here in this world that you have no training whatsoever. You don't even know they exist yet because you're not the type of person to be exposed to that level of monster. They reveal themselves in time. You have to sit down and say, "I want to achieve this thing, and if I can't achieve it all at one time, which usually you can't, I'm going to take my time and I'm going to slowly but surely get closer and closer to my ultimate goal. I'm going to slowly but surely get closer and closer to where I need to be." That is the key. If you want the true key to defeat procrastination, stop trying to take on everything at one time. Stop trying to take on every single thing at one time.
Give yourself the grace to move just a little bit closer to where you want to go. Don't try to take the whole thing at one time cuz you're always going to find a reason to give up. That is a hard and aggressive way of going about it. You probably could do it. I wouldn't recommend it, but I can't tell you what to do. This is your life. You make your own decisions. Huh? Procrastination is not the end-all be-all. If anything, procrastination is a sign that you are constantly thinking about something that you want to achieve in your life that's worth having. Right? Don't look at it like, "Oh, I'm wasting all this time."
Why? See, why are you wasting all this time? Why are you allowing yourself to be this way? These are the things we need to attack the source, not the symptoms. We need to attack where is this feeling coming from? Why am I procrastinating? It's cuz I want to take on the world. Well, you can defeat the world. It's just going to take time. So, break those goals down, achieve one goal, and then achieve the next, and then fail the next one, and then come back and achieve that one, and then go and achieve the next one, and then fail that one, and then just keep going until you make consistent progress, and then you look back two, three, four, five years later, and you say, "Damn, I've achieved so much great stuff. I'm not procrastinating anymore. I'm not doing this, that, and the third. I'm I'm doing pretty good for myself. I love what I've done, and it's all because AbdulAesthetics told me to chill the [ __ ] out and take this thing one step at a time. Yes, that's what you're supposed to do." Yeah. So, I know you enjoyed this video, but I hope you enjoyed this video. Make sure you like, share, comment, and subscribe. And let me tell you something. Don't try to take on the world at one time. The world is an animal that you have no preparation for, but if you slowly beat down that wall, build yourself up, and you come back, you can become the strongest version of yourself that could potentially Huh?
That could potentially take on and achieve all of the things you want.
Because achieving the things you want to achieve is hard. It's difficult. It feels damn near impossible sometimes.
But, you can still do this. Right? You can still make this happen. You can still do Just break it down into smaller, achievable goals and allow yourself to make mistakes, to fall down, to slip up, and come back stronger.
That's really all it comes down to.
>> That is your number one goal.
Consistently put yourself in a position to win and watch what happens. I'm telling you right now. So, with that being said, man, again, I hope you all enjoyed this video. Make sure you like, share, comment, and subscribe. Do not allow yourself to become a slave to procrastination.
Understand why you are procrastinating.
It's because you want to take on the world. I understand it. You want to achieve all of your goals at once. I get it. You feel like you're behind. I get it.
That doesn't mean that you are behind.
That doesn't mean you can't achieve all your goals. You just need to give yourself time to develop into the person that can do it, which in turn will reduce the odds of you procrastinating on the things that you ultimately want.
Finish what you started.
Crazy. Don't get me wrong. You probably put a time limit on yourself when it comes to figuring out your life and things of that nature. But, you know, we only do that because life is so [ __ ] up and crazy. And we see other people out here living a fantastic life. They may be a little bit older, may be a little bit younger. But, we see these people and we know, well, [ __ ] is possible for us to be living a life like that. Why aren't we doing that? Why can't I go do that? I need that. I'm not jealous. I just want the same thing. I don't want to take away from them so I can have. They can keep what they want.
I want something similar. You feel me?
Becoming an adult is just bull [ __ ] Like, it's just it's just straight dog [ __ ] Like, what This is not the life that we envisioned when we were kids.
You see what I'm saying? This This is genuinely not the life of an adult that we thought that we were going to get.
Right? What happened to the futuristic timeline? What What What happened to that? What happened to the, you know, going to clubs and not and not getting shot? Like, what what happened to that [ __ ] All of these things that we just unfortunately have to be a part of because, you know, we're here and we didn't ask to be here. That's another thing about life that kind of sucks. We didn't ask to be here, but we're forced to do things that we don't want to do.
