Addiction can be understood through a drowning metaphor: when individuals feel like they are drowning in life's challenges with no rescue team available, they instinctively grab onto any available lifeline, which may manifest as various forms of addiction such as substances, behaviors, or relationships, as a desperate survival mechanism when no other support exists.

Why do we cling to addictions? The drowning metaphor explains it perfectly.Added:
It's metaphorically like drowning like a boat going down and you're flailing in in a sea of ice cold water and a door floats by and you're like, "Okay, well, I guess I'm going to hop on this door because there's nothing else around.
Nobody's saving me. Like where where's the like rescue team?" And there is no rescue team. And so instead you're you're flailing and you grab hold of the door and you climb onto that door and that door is addictions.
So that that can be different things for different people because there's 101 way to be addicted to something. There's, you know, cigarettes, there's drugs, there's pharmaceuticals, there's going to gym, there's overwork, there's love.
You know, I I could easily say I was a woman who loved too
