Egypt scored three goals, one of them was disallowed, and in a very controversial manner. Um the officiating was very bad. There was yellow cards giving left, right, and center in that match. And then you had the England match, which, okay, England could have played better. But, to be honest, England deserved to be in the final way more than than um what do you call it? Argentina did because they played better throughout the tournament than Argentina. And Argentina's been very dirty team, yeah? And there unfortunately there's a a handful of like Latin American teams which are like that. Uruguay's like that. Paraguay's obviously like that. And Argentina are like that.

[00:01:58]With a few exceptions as we mentioned.

[00:02:00]So, I wanted to go cuz I knew that Spain was going to beat um Argentina. We saw how they dominated them. They dominated them so severely. It was It was more lopsided than what you saw with like even in the group stages with the lower uh teams versus the higher teams. So, it was like 20 shots on target from the Spanish side. And then the first shot on target from the Argentinian side wasn't like this 117th minute or something like that. It was a bad bad defeat. I wanted to go there.

[00:02:41]Very very vibrant environment. Very very good. Very interesting. But they just allowed one of the goals. I have I don't understand why. We're going to try to figure out why.

[00:03:13]It looks like really lopsided. It looks like a completely lopsided match. But they know how to make it dirty. They They've been making it dirty all competition. And then I have to stay in there. And I think they're trying to drag it on now for penalties because that's their best chance of winning.

[00:03:34]And it's definitely the best team in this competition.

[00:03:38]Um They deserve to win. But let's see if some big upset's going to happen.

[00:03:43]Argentina don't deserve to win this match. They don't deserve to win the competition. They've scraped through each and every single one of their matches.

[00:03:52]Spain has been dominating every single tournament, so we want Spain to win. And the way in which Argentina has been doing it is not good.

[00:04:01]They've been dirty playing, ETC. SO IT'S GOING TO BE A GOAL NOW.

[00:04:32]I'm in Spain. Obviously, we all know that Spain just won the World Cup. I wanted to come and see it here with the people and celebrate, you know, against Argentina. It was It was good to see them lose. They lose They lost the size of it. Yeah?

[00:04:46]And they lost in a way that made us question why they were there in the final in the first place. But, you know what? There are lessons to take from this. Um I was there with the people when they were celebrating, as you saw.

[00:04:56]But, the fact is, to be honest, yeah, they were celebrating. They were very, very happy.

[00:05:00]But, I'll be honest, it's the same level of, if you want, enthusiasm as I saw when Egypt got to the last 16 or something like that. It's almost the same level.

[00:05:10]Which made me start to think, okay, it made me start to think that these people are more, if you like, desensitized to victory than we are. Okay? For us, it's such If something happens, if we do anything as Muslims or even as now, like, Africans or whatever it may be, we get so excited about that and we we can't believe it.

[00:05:31]And it made me think that, okay, well, this is the reason in the post-colonial world why we need to start really raising the bar of expectations for ourselves.

[00:05:40]A very interesting study that was done, okay, was by Martin Seligman in the '80s. He's a very famous psychologist and he did something called or he he propounded something called learned helplessness.

[00:05:52]Basically the idea that you can teach yourself how to be helpless using like a victim complex or you associate certain things from with certain things.

[00:06:00]That's how you can actually teach yourself or you can be taught how to be helpless.

[00:06:04]And then he actually gave another theory in another book that's been written by him about learned optimism.

[00:06:10]And this brings me to a very important psychological point, okay, which also connects through like religious narratives.

[00:06:17]Cuz the fact is this, yeah, from a psychological perspective, yeah, when someone does something from your own especially if they're in your own like ethnic group of your they're on your your religious group, if they do something, it frees up the possibility in your head that you can do the same thing.

[00:06:35]And the famous example that's obviously used in this kind of context is usually that of uh Roger Bannister. Now Roger Bannister is the first person to do a mile in 4 minutes. He'd done 1 mile in a mile in 4 minutes. After he'd done it, a lot of people done the same thing.

[00:06:50]The same thing applies with like powerlifting and deadlifting. Someone, I don't know, powerlifting such and such amount of deadlifting such and such.

[00:06:56]Lots of people did it after that person.

[00:06:59]And if you want to a very specific kind of Muslim example, then think of Khabib Nurmagomedov.

[00:07:04]Before him, I don't know if there's any UFC champion that was Muslim before him.

[00:07:08]After him, you've got Islam Makhachev, you've got Anthony Pettis, you've got Belal Muhammad, you've got like I'm that's just the ones I'm thinking about in the UFC, but there's also the Usman in PFL, there's lots of them that came out and started to become champions. So it shows you that when one person does it, it frees up the possibility in people's mind that people from the same category can do the same thing.

[00:07:29]When Morocco reached the semi-finals of the World Cup, it's no surprise that okay, now another North African nation is getting past hurdles that it never got past before, which is in the case of Egypt.

[00:07:40]We need to think about how we can continually push the barriers of Muslim world.

[00:07:45]In the in the initial expansion of Islam with the Holy Prophet's companions, they thought, "Okay, you know what?

[00:07:52]We've got the Roman Empire, they've got history, they're big, they're the strongest empire maybe in world history at that time. And you've got the Persian Empire, another one, heavyweight.

[00:07:59]How are we going to deal with it?" They didn't have the blocks in their mind that oh, we can't do it. They were told by the Holy Prophet that you're going to expand into that empire and expand into that empire, and they had confidence in tawakkul, derived from trust in God, and they actually expanded into those empires, which is one of the most incredible prophecies ever recorded by any human being.

[00:08:20]Probably the most incredible prophecy ever recorded by a human being that he would take over the Romans and the Persians.

[00:08:27]So, the fact is that when you start freeing up the possibilities in your head, things start to become real.

[00:08:33]You don't You need to limit yourself at certain position, certain place.

[00:08:38]That's the lesson that we need to get from this World You can keep pushing. Look at Cape Verde, they were on the brink of taking Argentina, the reigning champions, not anymore, to the penalties.

[00:08:54]The point is confidence derived from tawakkul, which is trust in God. That's the strongest kind of confidence you'll ever get and the most genuine and sincere type of confidence you'll ever get. We as Muslims need to think about what we're good at and then contribute that to the ummah and have confidence in so doing. Don't put barriers in your mind. Okay, what am I good at?
