[00:00:12]On today's episode, we are going to try Shrinky Dinks inside of hot resin.

[00:00:48]>> All right. Well, today we are doing our own version using some of this Shrinky Dink plastic. Yep.

[00:01:00]>> Uh and we are going to see today whether or not our resin can get hot enough >> to shrink them. I've heard they need about 150°, >> which is a lot.

[00:01:10]>> It is a lot.

[00:01:10]>> And I know back in the day, a few years ago, when I was doing a lot of experiments, I'm pretty sure I got the resin to about 160.

[00:01:17]>> Ooh. So, that should be perfect.

[00:01:19]>> Cross fingers, it might actually work, right?

[00:01:22]>> Uh so, that is the plan for today. Now, I think Daran, before we actually go ahead and uh putting one straight into our resin and watching it on Pot Cam, >> we should probably do a test to make sure since this was bought online pretty cheap.

[00:01:35]>> Is it actually going to work? Cuz we don't want to waste half a liter of resin. Right.

[00:01:38]>> That's right. Yeah.

[00:01:39]>> If it isn't going to actually shrink.

[00:01:40]>> Yes.

[00:01:41]>> So, I think the plan for today, well, the plan straight up, I should say. I said today because I'm used to our maker episodes where we film over multiple days.

[00:01:49]>> Multiple days. Yes. The plan for right now is we're going to take our scissors and we are going to cut a square out of here.

[00:01:55]>> We'll do that first up.

[00:02:10]>> Now, what we need to do is we need to draw on it because I mean, look, we could just shrink on that if we want.

[00:02:16]Like, we could shrink that if we want, >> right? But let's draw on it.

[00:02:20]>> I feel like you need to see something shrink down, though. Not just a plain a plain sheet. You need to see an image go.

[00:02:30]>> And draw like a ruler. You know, like >> you know, like the increments like that.

[00:03:24]>> Now, I'm going to hold the middle because they should shrink from the outside to the middle.

[00:05:19]>> So, what we need to do, let's cut ourselves another piece of that.

[00:05:24]>> And uh we actually need it to try and fit in there. So, hopefully we'll just Yeah, you cut it. We'll have a We'll have a trial fit. See how it goes.

[00:07:47]So, I'm just going to draw on the shield.

[00:07:55]>> Very good.

[00:07:55]>> And then I got one more addition.

[00:07:59]We need to put some uh eyes on here.

[00:08:04]>> Oh, that's better. He looks like he can see now.

[00:08:06]>> And then you know what else I'm going to do?

[00:08:08]>> Yeah.

[00:08:09]>> We are going to sign. I've done one there.

[00:08:13]>> Oh, nice.

[00:08:13]>> I'm going to hand the pen off to you, Daran.

[00:08:15]>> Okay.

[00:08:17]And we are going to sign each side.

[00:08:22]There we have it. Now I'm going to let that dry and then we have to do something else. I have a rod here.

[00:08:28]Right. So as you saw the shrinky dink shrinks from outside in. Right towards the center.

[00:08:34]>> That's right.

[00:08:35]>> So once it's in our cup, we need this suspended. Right. But we can't just plop it in there cuz it's going to float.

[00:08:41]>> Exactly.

[00:08:42]>> So what we need to do is I've got this acrylic rod. We need to stick it to the backside in the middle. Yep.

[00:08:47]>> We're going to do that with some UV resin. Then I have some fiveminute epoxy over there.

[00:08:52]>> Just over there.

[00:08:53]>> And we are going to try and stick this in the side of the cup. So it may get a bit tricky.

[00:08:58]>> It may. Yes.

[00:08:59]>> But if all goes to plan, we are going to have our shrinky dink suspended in the middle off the ground with a rod on the side. And hopefully it does exactly like this inside of hot resin.

[00:09:26]So, our 5minute epoxy is now all set. We have him suspended. I think we need to name him, don't we?

[00:09:34]>> Do we? Okay. What are you going to call him?

[00:09:36]>> I don't know. Edgar.

[00:09:40]>> Uh, he's suspended. Yep.

[00:09:42]>> On all four sides. Cuz as you saw when we shrunk it with the heat gun, >> it it comes in from all the sides. So So that was the plan.

[00:09:49]>> Exactly.

[00:09:50]>> Now, you will also notice I put bugger UV resin on the uh rod there because we're hoping that the middle breaks away >> and does the final shrink.

[00:09:59]>> Goes pop.

[00:10:00]>> Yeah, that's what we're hoping for.

[00:10:02]>> Uh I guess we're going to find out.

[00:10:03]We're going to watch it all on pot cam.

[00:10:05]I've also added a bit of white paper because I figured with the black background uh our stick man being uh black like that >> like that. Yeah, >> it might get lost. Yes.

[00:10:15]>> So, I've added some white paper.

[00:10:17]Hopefully, it all stands out. You guys get a cool pot cam. Hopefully, it shrinks perfect.

[00:10:21]>> We're going to add some uh glitter. It's going to be amazing. Now, we want the full effect of the heat here. So, we are filling about 600 ms. >> Yes, >> we're going all the way to the top.

[00:10:32]>> We are. So, we've got a 400 cup and we'll do a 180 cup as well.

[00:10:35]>> Perfect. Now, the resin we are using for this one is Art Car slowet mixed at 3:1.

[00:10:41]I'm excited for this, Dan.

[00:10:43]>> I am too.

[00:10:44]>> We have had a huge make a week.

[00:11:47]>> Well, well, I was going to say belly button, but where we stuck him is above his shoulders.

[00:11:52]>> So, he's going to have, you know, a bit of a neck issue.

[00:11:56]>> Maybe if it doesn't break away.

[00:11:58]>> Yes. We're We're hoping it breaks away, right?

[00:17:17]>> Yeah. It's almost like um what are those? Is it a free faller where they jump off the building with those >> the wingsuit wings? Yeah.

[00:17:25]>> Yeah. The Red Bull wing suit or whatever it is. It almost looks like a magic carpet, too, with the threads hanging off it.

[00:17:33]>> Oh, I'm impressed.

[00:17:34]>> I am, too. Not going to lie. If we can now, now that we know this works, right?

[00:17:39]>> Y, >> it definitely shrinks without a doubt.

[00:17:42]>> I think we just got to develop a better holding pattern, >> like a holding design, you know what I mean?

[00:17:46]>> Maybe if the rod was a bit shorter, so it was closer to the back, if it's going to break off and fall forward, it'll still fall like in the middleish.

[00:17:54]>> Yeah. I think maybe once we watch Pot Cam, we may have a better idea as to what actually happened.

[00:17:59]>> Yeah.

[00:17:59]>> But I tell you what, that's cool, man.
