FIRST ALERT 6 PM FORECAST: Thursday, Apr. 30

[00:00:02]A very wet Thursday afternoon around much of the area. Let's give you a look at what we're tracking on our First Alert radar network. Some of the heavier showers and storms now from New Orleans to the West Bank back through Thibodaux near Napoleonville and building in towards Morgan City and Patterson. That line slowly dropping southward. We got another batch of moderate to occasionally some heavy rain moving back into metro Baton Rouge at this hour.

[00:00:25]Some of the heaviest stuff showing up near and north of Central. Uh we do have a flash flood warning that remains in effect through 8:00 p.m. Baton Rouge eastward to Denham Springs through St. George as well. We did have some street flooding a little bit earlier on and this batch of moderate rain extends right along the state line moving east.

[00:00:44]However, the good news here for the areas that got a little too much a little too fast, we do see a break developing not far out to our west. So, give it another hour or so and uh we should get a bit of a break developing.

[00:00:56]Yesterday, the rains were really concentrated on either side the state line. Today, the heavier rain shifted south. Let's zoom in and give you a look at some of the numbers. A number of bull's-eyes that were 3 to 4 in of rain as estimated by radar including near the uh 10-12 split uh here in Baton Rouge kind of near town center. You can see another 3 to 4 in bull's-eye on the south side of Denham Springs near Galvez, south side of Livingston near Frost, and we had another uh kind of on the west side of Lake Maurepas. So, certainly had some very heavy rainfall in some spots this afternoon. Here's our Sky 9 view on top of Our Lady of the Lake looking on Essen Lane. Still wet out there this evening. Take it slow out on the roadways. And as expected, we've got a pretty big gradient in temperatures with a frontal boundary draped across the area. North of the front, 60s to around 70. South of it, we've still got some 80s. Houma at 82 right now, but Gonzales to Baton Rouge 69. It's cool as 64 in McComb. All right. Uh we'll continue with some scattered rains here this evening, but the coverage should diminish a bit. Not saying it's going to be completely dry, but not the widespread heavy rain that we had earlier on this afternoon. And then through the day on Friday, I'll show you here in a second, off-and-on rounds of showers and storms. Also, we're going to keep it kind of cool through the day. Highs only in the upper 60s. Notice it's going to be breezy as well. Might even want a little bit of a jacket at times depending on how well you can handle uh the cool weather. So, there's another look at the numbers. A high around 68. Now, let's give you a look at the rain timing. Future cast the HRRR. We pick it up at daybreak. It's got showers and storms reloading out to our west. Here comes a wave moving in.

[00:02:42]That's mid-morning, 9:00 a.m. Scattered rains here at noon. Here comes the next wave showing up in the afternoon around 3:00 and they just keep coming. This is 6:00 Friday evening. That wave moves on by. Yet another showing up at midnight.

[00:02:58]And then as we get into Saturday morning, the rainy pattern will come to an end as we get a frontal boundary moving on through. So, the good news is we're going to salvage much here if not most of your weekend once we get beyond Friday night. The other bit of good news here is while we've had some localized flooding, we certainly have needed the rain with drought that has developed in many areas. So, the soaking we're getting right now is helping out. But we'll have to keep an eye. There could be that street flooding threat again on Friday with some pockets of heavy rain.

[00:03:29]Off-and-on showers and storms. Highs only in the upper 60s. Rain comes to an end early Saturday. We start out low 50s. Highs rebound into the low 70s as sunshine returns. By Sunday morning, kind of a cool start in the upper 40s, but rebounding into the upper 70s. First part of next week looks good.
