The Mitchells offer a grounded perspective that wisely prioritizes emotional resilience and family bonds over the fleeting validation of standardized testing. Their story is a poignant reminder that a child’s true masterpiece is their character, not their exam scores.

[music] >> Good morning. Good morning. Good morning.
I've been up for a minute. I'm not sure what time it is now.
Um took the boys to school. Did not make it to the gym today.
Trying to organize myself for a super busy weekend. I just literally made myself a protein drink.
I need to get that protein in as does everybody else apparently.
I do need to go and pick up some stuff for the boys today. I noticed that Aussie is completely grown out of his shorts. Like he is not fitting in his clothes that are for 7-year-olds even though he's six.
So I need to go and kind of just get him a few liquor shots and get that done and out of the way. I actually don't have a super busy day today. It's a pretty light day.
I just had a look at my calendar and it's not a hectic day. I just need to get certain things done.
For sure. Yeah. So as I always say, I'll take you along. All right, so we're ready for the day. Today is going to be a full day. I know I always say that, but today is actually going to be a very >> a full All right, that's what you're saying. I don't >> Don't forget Gia is coming today.
Gia is coming at 3:00 today. For what?
We just need her for a half an hour. You don't Don't say don't forget. You didn't tell me. Of course Tell me what we're doing.
>> tell me.
>> It's booked and scheduled. Well, I have a lot to do today. I don't know why they keep booking me for these things when they know that I'm booked and busy and I'm not that type of talent.
You are. You are. You are. You're actually very good. We're We're starting by going on the road to go pick up some stuff and then I have pick up you can come with me to I don't follow with you to your thing and then you can follow with me to my thing and then you see me?
Where are you going? I get what?
We're going to be getting right on.
We're going to be killing the rider.
Yeah, but the healing on the rhythm.
Oh, yeah, of course. It's all around the place, you know. So cool. But you know But somebody in the comment section was asking why not on that rhythm. For real?
Yeah, Tessanne Tessanne been saying it.
And the truth is that rhythm there it have a vibe but I don't know why Tessanne say >> nostalgic. It's it's nostalgic and it it's it it hit a nicotine where we used to love to take part in like that type of creativity and especially because Genius is a man from He must understand.
Yeah, we are we are produced from our era now and him kind of why? I don't know, man. I still there might be one more week.
You know, if I find out I'm going to go I'm going to go look into it. I'm going to look into it because the truth is the rhythm have a vibe and what's good about it and the what everybody's talking about is how it [snorts] is now like a bridge between eras. So it is encouraging the modern artist, the nowadays artist, the younger guys Mhm. to look back into the root of the music, go back to mentor, go back to you know I mean the deeper root of the heritage, the culture Mhm. of the of the music which a lot of them are doing.
Mhm. And because it not happening in such a long time there's like mixed reviews like some people are saying "Jah know yo, him should have left the rhythm alone." Mhm.
"Such and such should have left the rhythm alone." and whatever but I like it because what it does it shows that them not afraid to go somewhere where them not comfortable, you know? Mhm. So big up the Genius as usual.
>> You know what I mean? Him not just doing big things and in the local market but him also working with a lot of international acts too and doing some big things, some big song out there where you don't even know say Genius have a hand in that. So, yeah, big up the McGregor guys. Big up Freddy, too.
Big up my my general, Freddy McGregor and thing. Speaking of of genius who really, you know, grew up in this business and that's why he's such a good conductor, as well, and such a good bridge cuz he was there at [clears throat] that point when we were doing music and he's still relevant now.
Um but growing up in that I was telling them how how Aussie has grown out of all of his clothes like so rapidly.
It's so It's nuts. Every time Aussie gets dressed, him look like me don't know. Him look like him a run Ivy shots.
And so I was telling him I have to go and get stuff for Aussie today, specifically. Mhm. Because it's funny how it works. Jackson's hand-me-downs go to Atlas.
But, um they're growing up so fast. I cannot believe that we are only about 6 weeks out before school is done, before the first year of high school is done, before grade four is done, before grade one is done, and before Ivy goes to big school.
>> I did not realize that PEP had come.
>> And gone. And gone? Yes.
>> Done, done, done?
>> Yes. Celebration and everything?
>> No. They're not celebrating going to high school yet. They're celebrating that exam is over, but now they have the waiting game.
Okay.
Which is hard.
But if I have any advice to any of the parents and students, it's just just relax. It done do, it gone. There's nothing that can be done at this point.
Go enjoy yourself.
And a year from now you're going to be like, "Where did that all go?"
>> Yeah, no, no, no. Getting it behind you, getting the actual like exam part of it is the the biggest thing. You done do your best. But I mean I know the The was hard. The waiting?
>> The waiting was hard and the anxiety of just like wondering what is in store for your kid and tell you truth guys, we are also at a crossroads where we have to be looking and thinking, well, you know, how is this going to go for Atlas? Like, is this the right direction for him because I'm telling you and I've said it before, pep is not for every child.
It is not for every kid. The way that is set up, it's not the best road for every child, trust me. And it's something we have a look at as people who have four very different children, um five including Gio.
Uh we've been through two pips now.
It ain't for everybody. No, Gio did G sat. Gio might have been last year G sat, but um So yeah, we are we are we are going that road with all of you, wondering, considering, all of that, so. And CXC is is also not CXC, but what do you call it? CSEC? CSEC.
>> we have a flippy top? Mash up your brainy.
>> Yeah, mash up your brain cuz I want to tell you say a parent said, "Yo, my son just finished CXC." And I say, "So why you say CXC?" I try She try to date me and I say, "Yo, you all you got No, you got to understand more if me say CXC."
Yeah, me the kind of feel a little way still. I know, we used to say CXC and A levels. And A levels.
>> Now we say CSEC and CAPE. Am I right?
Yeah, something like so. And then You have O levels >> too.
O levels.
And then I never did CXCs cuz I was in England, so I did GCSEs. Mhm. Whatever that is. I don't know why they don't have a change it over the years. Might as well keep the legacy going. Or even Even if you change the format, just keep the name. Why not?
>> Let me date out together. Let's be radical.
Wait, what?
>> [laughter] >> So yeah, that was just our realization.
And of course, Jackson said to me the other day, "Mom, you're so right." He was I remember when I was worrying about peppers and now I'm looking at my end of year exams and now pep don't even matter. Nobody cares that you did pep and when you do high school and you don't high school, nobody will care.
Um they'll care for a second which university you go to. Then when you're done that, nobody cares. Then one day which job you get.
There you go.
Right now, that is the mission. Try and get Aussie looking like Aussie and not looking like um Aussie wearing Ivy clothes.
That ain't growing in town. So, yeah.
Yeah, you got something to eat first though. Yeah, I had to get something to eat. It's Mother's Day weekend, y'all. I hope y'all got your acts together. Oh, I forgot about that too.
>> This is a lovely This is a reminder.
It's only Friday. You can still get something nice, do something nice.
Um be somebody nice for your mama.
>> [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] >> Hi, mommy.
Love you.
>> [music] [music] >> I'm going to beat you me.
Good job.
Smiegel. What direction are you going in next direction? I would get a cool bird.
How did it [music] go?
Yeah, but we don't kill bird again.
Catch two bird with one hand.
Catch two bird with one hand.
You understand? Mhm.
I would just fly. I'll go get the boys.
Bring them back here for their haircut.
Yeah. You go on your own. Do your thing.
>> [music] >> Yeah. All right. I got my boy.
Yeah.
I just sometimes I tell Jackson things that I used to do in high school or prep school. Songs we used to sing. Things we used to do and it always cracks him up cuz he's just like Anyway.
>> were crazy. I heard it Dave Chappelle say this thing recently where he was like I don't feel like I'm getting older, but I really do feel like my kids are catching up.
If that makes sense.
I don't feel like I'm getting older, but it does feel like they're catching up to the jokes, to you know, all the things.
The talk, but anyway.
Guess what's for dinner today?
Um One of your favorites. Um bangers and mash?
No, not bangers and mash. A new favorite. That's a new favorite at home.
But at Jackson's, it's where I make mashed potatoes with a grilled hot dog and I pour Bisto gravy all over it for the infamous bangers and mash mate.
But what is your second favorite? Or what was your favorite dinner in the last 3 weeks he said, especially while we were swimming.
pasta Oh my gosh, this is gold.
And we still have the the little ones that I don't know what they're called.
Yes. Yes. Yeah, it's just so good with the flavor of the salmon and then the the creamy buttery sauce. It exists.
Maybe I can show everybody how to make a sauce. Yes. It's an easy go-to dinner dish um and it's good for you. So, we whenever like we have like um the swim meets and stuff, uh our fellow parent was telling me that you know, we need to make sure that they have carbs in like their lunch meal and all this stuff. So, pasta was a good one. So, we came up with this pasta recipe um with the salmon. We used to have it with mashed potatoes, which is also good. Mhm. But I made this sauce. I mean, it's quite a decadent sauce. It's not supposed to be so heavy. But you know, make little exceptions.
But I'll make it a little heavier but not that heavy.
>> really heavy when it's actually meet time. You make it a lot lighter.
>> lighter. But today I will add cream and butter and Cuz I don't have swimming.
So, now we're going to go pick up Atlas and Aussie Bean. We're going to head home and finish up there. You know it's Mother's Day on Sunday? Mhm.
I know.
I know.
I know.
Trust me, I know. How do you know? I know cuz of cuz of school.
I kind of you forget it was Mother's Day. I forgot too.
Oh.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
>> [laughter] >> Mother's Day mix up Jah Jah ready Paul there with the full style. Yo Paul, give me a give me a quick way you know my thing already know. A quick review. Yeah man, quick review. As you were you are going with Mr. GQ.
Anyway you go to girls them seek you.
>> [laughter] >> What I love like a joke thing.
Joke thing bro.
>> [music] >> Chef things.
Chef things. Wagwan.
Chef up.
I always just I always tell them everything that I'm going to be um the um I would like some of the fun stuff with the kids cuz they like it so much. Mhm.
And some of the building kit that was building with the sauce so murder Come on. Come on. Come on. See how he karate in the white name there.
A big rat in that pantry.
Yo wagwan.
Yo, that rat eats that rat a maggot on bro.
What that?
He's playing up plays in the house. Jah Jah He might look hard in the corner everything he eat you know.
Be a thing.
That picky you know.
Wagwan good people. fitness discipline Health is wealth is the mantra.
I'm worried of the process and the fry and the Tonight you hear me I sing about soda.
Oh no.
>> [laughter] >> When I treat the people EVERYTHING NO DRINK NO SODA.
YO. One time who Listen to the song. Listen to the song properly. You see what I say?
Okay.
I'm not sure about that.
So, here is the sauce now that's being built up and basically it just has um >> [music] >> capers Coming, Mama.
Um Dijon mustard, butter, and some cream sauce. [music] So, it's just reducing now. And I season with a little garlic powder, salt, etc. But the capers and the Dijon mustard really add a lot of nice flavor to it.
It's a good one.
>> [music] >> Guys, exciting news.
>> What's the exciting news?
It's exciting news, Aussie.
Look, guys.
We have >> an opener.

And the orchid and the orchid I will have to go >> Oh, yes. This is my anniversary orchid, and I'm always so happy with how many buds and blooms we get on this one.

I kiss it. And then, um we have our figs out. The fiddle figs are out, getting Hello, I am a little bit more a little bit more sun. All of the orchids are just blooming up so nicely. Look at these.
