Towing Company Owner Pleads Guilty to Bribing Bexar County's Top Law Enforcement OfficerAdded:
Towing cars is their mission, but one of the owners of Mission Wrecker Service has pleaded guilty to doing more than just that, trying to grow his business through bribery.
The target of the unlawful act was Bear County's top lawman, Sheriff Javier Salazar. Alongside members of the federal agencies that conducted the investigation, Salazar spoke about the day in April of last year when he had to call on the FBI.
>> I've never had anybody else straight out offer me a bribe like that.
>> 78-year-old Mohammad Choudhry, the man in the photo with beard, pleaded guilty Friday to offering Salazar a bribe worth more than $250,000.
The other, Anwar To Hear, a convenience store owner previously featured on KENS 12 News, had entered a guilty plea in March. They wanted Salazar to bypass the process and award Mission Wrecker's, Choudhry's company, a big towing contract with the county.
>> The sheriff says he has known Choudhry on several year for years. Both business owners previously has been big supporters of his. He says he never saw this bribery offer coming.
>> I don't know what possessed them to to cross that line with me, but I think now they see the they certainly see the error of their ways.
>> And today serves a reminder to everyone here in the Western District of Texas that the integrity of public officials is not for sale.
>> Investigators say this should also encourage others to report this kind of corruption.
